Sidney Poitier's cause of death has been determined. The legendary actor passed away on the 7th of January, at the age of 94.
A combination of heart failure, Alzheimer's dementia and prostate cancer were all factors contributing to his death, according to a death certificate obtained by TMZ.
Sidney was known for his long-standing legacy. He became the first black actor to win the Oscar for Best Actor for his work in 1963's Lilies of the Field, in which he played an itinerant labourer who helps a group of white nuns build a chapel.
Many of Poitier's best-known films explored racial tensions as Americans were grappling with social changes wrought by the civil rights movement.
Beyond acting, he was also, a writer and director. But first and foremost, he was an advocate who fought for civil rights, alongside close friend Harry Belafonte.
An emotional tribute was shared to Instagram last week by one of his daughters, Sydney, honouring her late father.
