6 tips on what to wear to a wedding
Weddings have dress codes for many reasons; to ensure the bride and groom are properly respected on their special day, to ensure everyone gets into the pre-booked venues and of course, so the photos are nothing short of perfection. If you’re worried about a wedding you have coming up and you want to make sure that you’re dressed elegantly and appropriately, follow these six tips.
1. Only one white dress in the room
We all know this rule, and no matter how mush fashion dos and don’ts changes over the years, this one seems to stick. Unless you are a bridal party member who is specifically asked to dress in white, choose any colour but.
2. Look up the venue
You've marked the date on your calendar, booked a room at the recommended hotel, and made your travel plans, but did you notice where the wedding is going to be? Look to the invitation for clues like “semi-formal”, “black tie” but read between the lines. If the ceremony is in a church, you may need to dress a little more conservative than you usually do.
3. Be colour conscious
This is something people don’t normally think of in advance, but is there a theme to the wedding? It may in some cases be appropriate to recognise this and wear your navy blue dress or tie if you think it may go well. However, be weary, you want to avoid matching the bridal party if you’re not in it.
4. Better to be over dressed than under dressed
As Oscar Wilde once said, there is no such thing as being overdressed or undereducated. Even if an invitation says “casual”, leave the jeans and jandals at home.
5. Don’t steal the show
You really do look stand out amazing in that gold shimmery sweater and matching skirt. So unfortunately, you probably shouldn’t wear it. It’s the bride’s day and you don’t want to up-stage her.
6. Be yourself
It's not your day, but that's no reason not to be yourself. If you try to stick to some of the guidelines above, then you should be all set.
