Hamish Blake creates extraordinary cake for Sonny’s isolation birthday
Hamish Blake has proven year after year that he has an uncanny knack for cake decorating.
Every year, the nation waits for the comedian to bake his son a birthday cake, and let’s just say, he never disappoints.
Hamish ‘Cake’ Blake has made an annual event of devoting an entire night to a drunken, pressure-filled challenge to whip up an extremely elaborate cake for his son, and each cake is somehow more impressive than the last.
And the best part? Him and his skincare mogul wife Zoe Foster Blake document the entire process on Instagram.
For Sonny’s sixth birthday he requested an Aladdin inspired cake, specifically the Cave of Wonders – a large tiger head complete with a lit up golden centre. And somehow, that’s exactly what he got.
Leaving it to the very last minute, Hamish stayed up until 2:30 am as he downed tequila and got to work.
He constructed the centre of the cake with blocks and wrapped it in yellow marzipan and gold leaf. The structure allowed Hamish to shine a torch through the cake to create the glowing cave effect.
He then wrapped multiple chocolate cakes around the structure to form the shape of the tiger head, and topped it off with purple icing, a nose and some teeth.
Taking plenty of breaks in between to celebrate “the small wins”, the cake was finally complete well into the morning – and it looked surprisingly good.
Zoe took to Instagram on Sunday to wish her boy a happy birthday and commend her husband for his hard work.
She wrote, "My little boy turned six today, and my husband once again triumphed in his kid-throws-up-an-idea-for-a-cake-and-he-makes-it-the-night-before-no-matter-how-ambitious, game."
Each year, Hamish makes extraordinary cakes for his son, each of them with some kind of technical element involved, like an edible hinge, rotating dinosaurs tail or slime spewing from a ghost’s mouth.
