Karl Stefanovic’s ex-wife speaks out about his engagement news
Cassandra Thorburn has commented on ex-husband Karl Stefanovic’s recent engagement to shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough for the first time.
“I am just focused on helping those affected by the ever-changing landscape of my ex-husband’s life, to navigate it,” Cassandra told Fairfax Media.
“His engagement doesn’t register with me on any other level.”
Karl and Jasmine confirmed recent engagement rumours after she was seen wearing a $120,000 ring at the Harper’s Bazaar 20th birthday celebration.
Karl and Jasmine, who have a nine-year age gap, have received significant media attention since their relationship was revealed five months after Karl and Cassandra’s split.
Karl and Cassandra were married for 21 years and have three children together, Jackson, 18, Ava, 12 and River, 10.
Last year, Cassandra revealed to Woman’s Day that going through the split with her ex-husband felt like someone had died in the family.
“I realised I was going through stages of grief, and to me it was like someone had died,” the 46-year-old said.
“The children still have a father but I don’t have a husband. He really is dead to me and, no, we won’t ever be friends again.
“There were days in the beginning I would get up, put on a brave face and drop the kids at school, then I’d get to the back door and I would lie in a heap for the rest of the day unable to move. There were very dark days.
“I was completely gazumped when I realised Karl had gone."
Recently, Cassandra has shared that she has discovered a more positive outlook on life.
“This is my second chance to have the life I truly deserve,” Cassandra told Woman’s Day last month.
“I’ve really turned a corner. I often look back and am comforted at just how far I’ve come. I’m unstoppable and I’ve never felt more empowered.”
