Married 54 years, this couple share their unique love story
Meet Jim and Ida, who’ve been married for 54 years. As part of SoulPancake’s “The Marriage Project”, they share their beautiful love story in this charmingly illustrated video. Their story began with a blind date and a lukewarm courtship, but soon blossomed into a beautiful marriage. But as the old adage proves, opposites certainly attract – at least for Jim and Ida.
“We couldn’t have been more opposite so I guess that was part of [what drew me to Ida]” recalls Jim.
Ida agrees, “We used to argue about everything. Whatever he said, I said the opposite.”
But with 54 years of marriage under their belt, they both agree it helped, not hindered, their relationship.
“You’re not going to grow if someone doesn’t give you a little bit of a challenge once in a while. We learnt throughout the years not to let things upset us,” Ida says.
“It isn’t easy but once you figure it out everything is okay,” Jim says.
“Just turn up the TV a little louder,” quips Ida with a laugh.
As so very evident in the video above, the way these two lovebirds talk about one another, with the other frequently interjecting, is just so heart-warming to see 54 years after they wed. What a lovely couple!
