Chris Sebastian shares private moment he was crowned winner of The Voice

Chris Sebastian has released a video of the exact moment he found out he had won The Voice.

In a surprising turn of events, Chris was crowned the winner on Sunday night ahead of favourites Siala Robson and Johnny Manuel.

Chris had no idea he had won until the show aired on TV.

The grand finale was prerecorded several weeks ago and producers filmed four different endings – one where each of the four finalist won – and once the public votes were tallied during Sunday’s show, they simply aired the correct winner’s announcement.

Chris was sitting with Guy Sebastian during the finale and took to Instagram to share a video of the moment he found out he was named the winner.

“This is the exact moment I found out that I had won, as you can see I was completely and utterly shook,” he wrote alongside the video.

“Truly I was just grateful to be on that stage with @stellarperry @johnnymanuel and @sialaofficial because they are all incredible artists and even more than that, incredible people and I would happily have lost to either of them.”

This is the exact moment I found out that I had won, as you can see I was completely and utterly shook. For those that don’t know we filmed 4 alternate endings- when voting lines closed on Sunday the network played the ending of whoever won so I found out the same time as everyone else Truly I was just grateful to be on that stage with @stellarperry @johnnymanuel and @sialaofficial because they are all incredible artists and even more than that, incredible people and I would happily have lost to either of them. Sitting here going through potential next singles and album songs I am just so happy to finally be where I am right now I promise I’ll stop doing sappy posts now, my bad 😂 #thevoiceau @thevoiceau

Chris, who pocketed $100,000 and scored a recording contract with EMI as part of the win, added: “Sitting here going through potential next singles and album songs, I am just so happy to finally be where I am right now.”

His win on Sunday night attracted plenty of criticism from people saying the show was “rigged” in his favour because his brother was a coach on the program.

The morning after his win, Chris sat down with KIIS FM’s Kyle and Jackie O and said he knew there would be backlash if he won.

“I knew it was coming, but I weighed up the risks,” Chris said on radio. “I was like, look, this isn’t even about me anymore. I’ve got a family to provide for, I’ve been wanting to do this my whole life.

“I’m not going to allow a couple that are upset (to upset me),” he continued. “At the end of the day, there are people that voted for me so I’m going to sing for them. If the others don’t want to listen, that’s all good.”

Chris’ winner’s single, Bed For 2, is available to stream now.
