How often should you visit your optometrist?

How often should you visit your optometrist?

There’s no ifs, ands or buts about it: eye health is of the utmost importance. So, knowing this, why do so many of us forgo routine eye inspections?

Once we’ve reached the age of 40, it’s important to get a baseline eye exam, which looks for potential signs of eye disease or vision problems that affect you as you age. Past the age of 60, everyone should visit their optometrist at least once every one to two years, as age-related eye diseases such as cataracts, age related macular degeneration, and glaucoma become more prominent during your twilight years. If you suffer from diabetes or have a family history of such eye diseases or vision problems, it is a good idea to make your routine visits even more frequent, seeing your doctor every six to twelve months.

Additionally, if you experience any sudden pain, change in vision, or irritation such as dryness or itchiness, you should visit your eye doctor immediately. The best solution to vision problems is early detection and prevention.
