Barbra Streisand has celebrated two special occasions with her husband James Brolin.

The singer and actress took to Instagram to share a throwback photo of the pair on their wedding day, marking both their 26th wedding anniversary and the day they first met almost three decades ago.

"28 years today since we met honey… and 26 years today since we married!" she wrote.

She added a sweet message for her husband: "Love you. B ❤️."

The photo, from their 1998 nuptials, showed Brolin looking dapper in a classic black tuxedo as he wrapped his arms around Streisand looking beautiful in a white, lacy off-the-shoulder wedding dress.

The couple first met in 1996 at a blind date dinner party when she was 54 and he was 56.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Barbra Streisand (@barbrastreisand)

They tied the knot in a backyard ceremony at the singer's home in Malibu, California.

"I can't tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life," Brolin said in his wedding speech at the time.

"Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can't wait to see [Streisand] again in the morning."

Brolin was previously married to Jane Cameron Agee and Jan Smithers, while Streisand was previously wed to Elliott Gould.

Fans were quick to congratulate the couple on their anniversary.

"Happy Anniversary!!! What a gorgeous photo," wrote one fan.

"Based on your novel: you finally got the love you deserve," added another.

"You're such a stunning couple, congratulations, and may you continue to write your love story. Thank you for giving us you," commented a third.

Image: Instagram

Brave 12-year-old faces her attacker in court: Troy Johnson gets 28 years behind bars

A man who stalked and raped a 12-year-old girl on the NSW Central Coast has been sentenced to 28 years in jail, with the judge saying “society has no place for a person like you”.

In May 2017, Troy Johnson dragged the victim into a bushland in Narara, bound her hands and feet with cable ties and sexually assaulted her for almost an hour. He was wearing a camouflage suit – also known as ghillie suit – and wielding a knife during the attack.

Gosford District Court heard that the man had “gloated” about the action to a friend in a phone call.
“Dude, you’ll never believe what I just did. I tied up a schoolgirl,” he said.

Johnson’s manager said the mechanic arrived at work three hours late on the day of the attack with wet patches on his clothes, claiming that he had been in a road rage incident.

Judge David Wilson told the court Johnson had been stalking the victim for several weeks before committing the assault.

Judge Wilson said the girl, who appeared in court to read an impact statement last week, “was truly a victim of the detestable conduct of the perverted offender”.

The judge commended the girl’s “enormous courage” for facing her attacker.

The judge described Johnson’s offense as “hideous”, “depraved” and “truly repugnant”.

“Society has no place for a person like you,” the judge told Johnson.

“You’ve shown no insight or understanding of the impact your predatory, vulgar conduct had upon your victims.”

Johnson pleaded guilty to 10 charges, three of which were in relation to the assault of another child in 2016 and 2017.

Judge Wilson lifted the suppression order on naming Johnson after media outlets fought the attempt to keep his name and face hidden.

Johnson will not be eligible for parole until 2038.

“Today’s sentence is testament to the very brave girls who came forward,” said Detective Superintendent John Kerlatec from the Sex Crimes Squad.

“It’s been a very challenging time for the family, and we hope we can all move forward today.”

$28 for instant coffee: The supermarkets ripping off Aussies

The thought of paying $28 for a jar of coffee can be hard to imagine for many, but for those consumers living in remote areas of Australia, this inflated cost is a reality.

ABC News launched an investigation on government-controlled supermarkets after it was said that people were paying up to $18 more for household items than those living in metro areas. The investigation compares the prices of products in Lockhart River in comparison to the same products in Brisbane.

Products such as washing liquid had a difference of $10.80 compared to the price in Brisbane, and baby formula cost $9 more than the standard price.

And it’s not just grocery prices that are inflated. Unleaded petrol in the region was priced at $1.93 per litre and $1.89 for diesel – also at a store run by the government.

Lockhart River Mayor Wayne Butcher believes shoppers in remote indigenous regions are being ripped off.

“I’m angry because it’s very expensive and it just makes life so much harder,” he said.

“It’s not like you have choices either; you can’t just go to Coles or Woolworths. It’s an extra burden on each household and it’s not something we need.”

Community Enterprise Queensland (CEQ) is in charge of more than 20 of the remote stores across the state and is a statutory body of the Queensland Government.

A spokesperson from the government said they subsidise “fresh fruit, milk, eggs, some baby products and core basket essentials to ensure prices are kept low".

“It also assists communities to have access to ‘best buys’ and ‘specials’ and price matches with Coles, Cairns, on online products,” the spokesperson said.

“However, it must also be noted that there are still significant freight costs that have to be borne due to CEQ operating in very remote areas of the state.”

A recent productivity commission review recommended the government to step away from assets such as retail stores, as they can ‘crowd out’ locals from business opportunities.

In 2016, the government took over most of the remote supermarkets in Queensland.

Mr Butcher has said they were promised a decrease in prices but instead, had to deal with prices increasing even further.

“They said things would get better, but that’s a broken promise,” he said.

“Because of the remoteness and lack of employment opportunities, they should consider more subsidies to make things affordable.”

This resort only lets 28 people in at a time

Travel writer Rachael Burnett describes a luxurious experience at Queensland’s Orpheus Island Resort, the exclusive resort that only lets 28 people in at once.

It's become a cliché that exclusive tropical resorts have the power to magically dismiss the stressful detritus that builds up on our souls throughout life.

The Orpheus Island Resort, off the coast of north Queensland in Australia, is the reason why.

As my helicopter soars over the Great Barrier Reef on our way to the resort, it occurs to me that I'm not escaping the proverbial grind of reality. I'm just trading one reality for another.

And with views like these, I don't want to trade back.

If anything, Orpheus presents a heightened reality: Drinks constantly on hand, decadent food, deep blue water and unspoiled beaches. Without overbearing waiters hovering around you all the time, this could easily be mistaken for a dream.

Only 28 dreamers are allowed on Orpheus at a time. The resort's 14 rooms accentuate the secluded atmosphere, while the dining options, like the roomy verandah, where you can enjoy meals and a cheeky drop, underline it.

There's a distinctly un-hotel feel to the resort, and it's clearly by design. It's easier to unwind when you feel like you're staying at a rich friend's house.

My room has eschewed the stale welcome mint approach for a complete cheeseboard and fruit platter partnered with a bottle of champagne, which I can enjoy on my own private terrace with ocean views.

Make that a very rich friend.

The island's agenda is very firmly centred on relaxation: you'd think hammocks grew on palm trees here. I could get a lot of reading done, but there's too much else to do.

The enticing ocean views offered by just about every vantage point on Orpheus are a little too inviting: I want to get out on it or deep beneath it. Fortunately, both options are on the table.

Snorkelling is a given at a place like this, but there's nothing routine about the galaxy of aquatic life on parade beneath the waves. At one point, I'm surrounded by a cloud of fish, and the colours threaten to overwhelm me. I let them.

Back on the shore, crabs and stingrays look on as I remove my mask and prepare for the cruise.

The neighbouring island is accessible by boat, but the Orpheus resort wouldn't just put you on a dinghy and hope for the best. That's why I'm on a sunset cruise, enjoying a lychee martini and a grazing platter. The word spoiled comes to mind.

Orpheus is home to bushwalks with eye-popping views from Picnic Bay. Again, I'm drawn to the water, so I grab a kayak and paddle into the mangrove forest.

Stingrays languidly comb the shallows and tiny crabs scuttle along the mangrove roots as I drift by. The only sound is the gentle lapping of the water against my kayak.

Up ahead, a deserted beach calls me over for a swim. Who am I to say no?

It's hard saying farewell to the tropes of the tropics, but once back on the mainland, I find it's a long goodbye. Far from typical Australian coastal towns, Townsville and Cairns keep the island vibe going with award-winning beaches, boardwalks, lagoons and fresh seafood.

As I stare down a plate of crocodile sliders with wattleseed damper at Ochre Restaurant in Cairns, I know it's almost time to wake up from this dreamy reality.

I've always liked a sleep-in. Maybe I'll give my rich friend a call.

What’s your favourite place to visit in Queensland? 28 million Centrelink calls got an engaged signal

In data that’s sure to add fuel to the fire of Centrelink critics amid a year that hasn’t been short of scandal, new figures have revealed that 28 million calls to the beleaguered welfare agency were greeted with an ‘engaged’ signal in the last seven months.

The data was revealed by Department of Human Services (DHS) representatives who fronted the Senate estimates hearing on Thursday, fielding questions about the much-maligned debt collection scheme and a range of other controversies.

Between July 2016 and January 31, 2017, the DHS confirmed 28 million calls from clients were greeted with an ‘engaged’ signal, of which 4.1 million were eventually abandoned. The representatives also reported the average waiting time for a client to receive an answer to their query was 14 minutes and 10 seconds.

Among the revelations, DHS staff also admitted to the use of social media to track down and investigate the nature of various complaints about Centrelink.

DHS secretary Kathryn Campbell told the Senate estimates hearing, “We look at it about service delivery. My expectation is, in running the department, it's expected of us to look at those complaints to see whether they're true.”

Greens senator Rachel Siewert responded to the admission with a statement this morning, “It is deeply concerning that DHS staff have been trawling through social media to find people complaining about Centrelink to provide to the Minister.

"The department confirmed they keep an eye on traditional media but to trawl social media is a new development that raises strong concerns. This looks to me more about trying to discourage people from speaking out.”

What’s your view on Centrelink? Do you think the media has been too hard on the agency?
