And on their way home, that’s when the accident happened.

“We were having Sunday dinner as a family, and Poppie's aunty was with us and obviously, Poppie was as well. And then she got a phone call and she ended up leaving really quickly to go and see what happened.”

Hepple, has set up a GoFundMe page for Poppie and has raised almost £380,000 (about $745,000 Australian dollars) to put towards her education, emotional support and future care.

The family friend has described Poppie as a “bright and resilient young girl” who has turned to Taylor Swift’s music to find comfort after she “lost her whole world in an instant”.

“Despite her unimaginable loss, she shows incredible strength every day,” he wrote on the fundraiser.

“Poppie now faces an uncertain future. With her immediate family gone, she needs support to ensure she has a stable, loving environment where she can heal and grow.”

Shannen and Shane's devastated friends and family have shared their tributes on social media, vowing to look after Poppie.

Shane’s brother Callum said he was “lost for words”, adding: “I’m absolutely heartbroken. I’m gonna miss all of you! You all had a heart of gold. My heart is ripped into a million pieces!”

Shannen's friend Chelsea Element wrote: “You are and always will be one of my closest friends.

“There are no words to describe the utter loss this has created for family/friends and the community around us. I hope you’re at peace Shannen Morgan and Shane Roller, with your beautiful girls.

“Everyone will always look after Poppie, she will never want for anything she has the love of everyone.”

Her cousin Beth Brittain said: “My heart just hurts my brain won’t accept what’s happened.

“Shannen you were always my extra sister not just my cousin, we grew together. I just can’t speak. No words. Sleep tight my little Roller family your memory will live on for eternity.”

Christopher and Janine’s son Lewis, is believed to have flown home immediately after finding out about his parents death.

The couple had recently celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, according to West Yorkshire Police, and they were just 20 minutes from home when the devastating accident occurred.

In a tribute released through the police, the couple were described by their son as “a loving, caring mum and dad who always put me before everything else”.

Superintendent Alan Travis of Wakefield District Police has urged anyone who has dashcam, doorbell or CCTV footage of the car to contact them and assist with their investigation.

They have also issued a public plea for anyone who saw a grey coloured Porsche 911 at the time of the crash to come forward.

“This is an absolutely tragic incident which has resulted in the loss of six lives," the Superintendent said.

“Our thoughts go out to the families of those who have died who we are working with to provide support at this time.”

Images: news.com.au

Aussie couple arrested and charged with spying for Russia

An army private in the Australian Defence Force and her husband have been arrested after being accused of spying for the Russians.

The Australian Federal Police arrested the 40-year-old soldier Kira Korolev and her 62-year-old labourer husband Igor Korolev at their Brisbane home on Thursday morning.

They have been charged with preparing for an espionage offence.

The woman has been employed by the ADF for several years as an information systems technician.

It is alleged the Russian-born Australian citizens worked together to obtain sensitive information.

AFP Commissioner Reece Kershaw said the couple have been living in Australia for more than a decade after the woman received her citizenship in 2016, with her husband also becoming a citizen in 2020.

The woman is accused of not declaring her travels to Russia during long-term leave from the ADF since 2023, both with and without her husband.

While her husband remained in Australia, the woman is accused of instructing the man to log into her official work account and access information to send to her private email while she was in Russia.

It is alleged this information related to Australia’s national security interests and was accessed a number of times with the intent of passing it on to Russian authorities.

“Western democracies, including Australia, are being targeted by state actors, but Australia’s intelligence and law enforcement agencies have the laws, capability and tradecraft to identify these spies and those seeking to undermine Australia’s interests,” Kershaw said on Friday.

“So my direct warning is this, we know who you are. You are likely already exposed.”

It is unknown if the information was passed on, or what the pair did while overseas, however the investigation is continuing.

“Whether that information was handed over remains a key focus of our investigation,” Kershaw said. “Currently no significant compromise has been identified.”

ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess said the “espionage threat is real”.

“Multiple countries are seeking to steal Australia’s secrets. We cannot be naive and we cannot be complacent,” Burgess said.

“Espionage is not some quaint Cold War notion. Espionage damages our economy and degrades our strategic advantage. It has catastrophic real-world consequences. Foreign intelligence services are capable, determined and patient."

“They play the long game. The problem for them is ASIO does too,” he said.

Man arrested after BBC presenter's wife and children murdered

British police have apprehended the man they believe is responsible for a brutal crossbow attack on the wife and two children of a well-known BBC radio presenter.

In a statement released on Wednesday afternoon (early Thursday AEST), Hertfordshire Police said 26-year-old Kyle Clifford had been located in the Enfield area of north London and that he was receiving medical treatment for injuries.

The BBC confirmed that the women killed were the family of its well-known radio racing commentator John Hunt — his 61-year-old wife Carol Hunt and their daughters Louise and Hannah, aged 25 and 28 respectively.

Their tragic death prompted a major manhunt for the 26-year-old, as the public were urged not to approach Clifford.

"Following extensive inquiries, the suspect has been located and nobody else is being sought in connection with the investigation at this time," Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire major crime unit said.

"This continues to be an incredibly difficult time for the victims' family and we would ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with what has happened."

A colleague of Hunt's and BBC 5 Live's lead presenter Mark Chapman struggled to hold back the tears as he expressed everyone's shock and pain.

"We have a football match to bring you tonight ... and we will start our buildup to it shortly but this has been a heartbreaking day," he said as he opened Wednesday's coverage on 5 Live of England's semifinal match against The Netherlands in soccer's European Championship.

"John Hunt is our colleague and our friend, not just to the current 5 Live sport team but to all of those who've worked here with him over the past 20 years, and also to all of you who have enjoyed his superb commentaries," Chapman said. "So on behalf of everyone connected to 5 Live Sport, our love and thoughts and support are with John and his family."

Police were first alerted to the violent killings on Tuesday evening when emergency services were called to a house in Bushey, a residential area in north-western London.

Paramedics tried to revive the women, but they died at the scene.

While police have yet to establish a link between the suspect and the family, some British media outlets have claimed Clifford, who served in the British Army between 2019 and 2022, was an ex-boyfriend of one of the daughters.

Image credits: Peter Manning/LNP/Shutterstock Editorial/Hertfordshire Police

Justin Timberlake arrested

Justin Timberlake, the acclaimed singer and actor, has spent the night behind bars on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI) in New York's Long Island. The incident took place in the upscale seaside village of Sag Harbor, a well-known summer retreat for the affluent.

Timberlake, 43, was reportedly driving a BMW around 12:30am when he failed to stop at a stop sign and veered out of his lane. An officer pulled him over and noticed signs of intoxication. According to the court documents, the officer observed that Timberlake had bloodshot and glassy eyes, smelled strongly of alcohol, had slowed speech and was unsteady on his feet. He performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests administered at the scene.

Despite Timberlake's assertion that he had only consumed one martini and was following friends home, he was arrested and taken to a police station in East Hampton. There, he refused a breath test. The court documents list his occupation as "professional" and noted that he is "self-employed".

According to a report from the New York Post, the arresting officer was so young he did not recognise the world-famous singer, even after Timberlake told him his name. “He didn’t recognise him or his name,” an insider claimed, with a second source adding, “Justin said under his breath, ‘This is going to ruin the tour.’ The policeman replied, ‘What tour?’ Justin said, ‘The world tour.’”

After spending the night in custody, Timberlake was formally charged and released later on Tuesday morning (Wednesday AEST). He faces one count of DWI and is scheduled to appear in court on July 26, according to the Suffolk County district attorney's office. Timberlake's lawyer and representatives have not yet commented on the incident.

Timberlake's journey to fame began as a Disney Mouseketeer, where he shared the stage with future pop stars like Britney Spears. He gained widespread recognition as a member of the boy band NSYNC before launching a successful solo career in 2002. Timberlake has since won 10 Grammy Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards. His acting credits include acclaimed performances in movies such as The Social Network and Friends With Benefits.

Sag Harbor, located about 160km from New York City, is a part of the Hamptons, a popular destination for wealthy visitors during the summer. The village is known for its picturesque views and luxurious lifestyle, attracting celebrities and high-profile individuals.

This incident marks a rare brush with the law for Timberlake, who has largely maintained a positive public image throughout his career. As the legal process unfolds, more details are likely to emerge, shedding light on the circumstances of his arrest and the potential consequences he may face.

Images: Sag County Police | Today show

Last year, almost 150,000 calls for assistance were made to the NSWPF for domestic violence-related matters.

"This shows the severity of the situation, the huge amount of police time and resources that go into addressing this epidemic and how important it is for prevention, early intervention and crisis support services to work together."

Some of most significant arrests include a a 53-year-old man who allegedly threatened a woman with an imitation gun in Kempsey.

Officers searched the home and seized the weapon and some cannabis.

A 23-year-old woman was also arrested in the state's west after allegedly stabbing a relative around 2:30 am on May 17.

The older relative received multiple stab wounds to the abdomen, head, and back and was taken to a local hospital where police were called.

She was later flown to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

The 23-year-old was charged with wound person intend cause grievous bodily harm and was refused bail to appear in Dubbo Local Court on May 18.

NSW Police Executive Sponsor for Domestic and Family Violence, Deputy Commissioner Peter Thurtell said that the operation allowed police to conduct a targeted blitz of those who have been flagged as the worst domestic violence offenders.

“We demonstrated last week that we will target and arrest the offenders no matter where they are located. World No.1 golfer breaks silence after bizarre arrest

World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has broken his silence after he was arrested and charged by police on Friday, ahead of the second round of the PGA Championships.

Scheffler was detained by Louisville Metro police, after he drove onto a curb to try and get around a fatal accident that occurred in front of the Valhalla Golf Club.

Earlier that morning, a man who was working for a vendor at the tournament, was hit and killed by a shuttle bus while attempting to cross the street near the golf club.

The tragic incident caused the road to close in both directions, but Scheffler reportedly “refused to comply and accelerated forward” when Detective Bryan Gillis stopped the golfer to give instructions.

The police report obtained by ESPN also said that the detective who stopped him “suffered pain, swelling and abrasions to his left wrist and knee."

Scheffler was charged with felony assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, reckless driving and disregarding signals from an officer directing traffic and was released almost four hours later.

He returned to the golf course and issued a statement on the incident before completing his second round.

“This morning I was proceeding as directed by police officers,” Scheffler began.

“It was a very chaotic situation, understandably considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier and there was a big misunderstand of what I thought I was being asked to do.

“I never intended to disregard any of the instructions.

“I am hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

“Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything into perspective.”

After completing the second round, he spoke further about the incident and said: “My head is still kind of spinning, I can’t really explain what happened this morning."

He also recalled stretching and doing his warm-ups in the jail cell, in attempt to lower his heart rate.

“I was never angry. I was just in shock, and I think my body was just -- I was shaking the whole time. I was shaking for like an hour. It was definitely a new feeling for me," he said.

An officer even offered him a sandwich.

“I was like, ‘Sure, I’ll take a sandwich’. I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet. I mean, they were really kind. I’m grateful that we have such strong police, and they’re our protectors out there, and like I said, we just got into a chaotic situation this morning. That’s really all it was," he recalled.

Scheffler’s lawyer Steve Romines said that there was a bit of confusion as the officer directing traffic didn’t appear to be part of the tournament traffic detail “and that’s where the miscommunication arose”.

He also said that they will be pleading not guilty and told The Golf Channel that charges against Scheffler “will either be dropped or we will go to trial because Scottie didn’t do anything wrong.

“We’re not interested in any sort of settlement negotiations or anything like that. It was just a big miscommunication.”

Images: Twitter

Samantha Murphy's father breaks silence over suspect's arrest

Samantha Murphy's heartbroken father has spoken out following the news of a man being arrested in connection with her disappearance.

The 51-year-old mother from Ballarat was last seen on February 4th when she left her home for her daily morning run.

Now, over a month since she was last seen, a 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with her disappearance.

Since the news broke of the man's arrest, Murphy's father, John 'Pud' Robson told Daily Mail Australia that the arrest had taken the family by surprise.

Robson, in his 80s, shared that he and his family found out about the arrest when it was first reported by the media.

"My wife just texted me to say that it had been on the radio," he said. "We haven't been told and evidently Michael [Samantha's husband] hasn't been told either."

Mr Robson said he knew nothing about the individual arrested by detectives, and had yet to be contacted by investigators about the arrest.

"We haven't heard a thing unfortunately," he said on Thursday morning.

"All my wife said is she heard it on Triple M [radio] that they'd arrested some bloke and that no charges have been laid yet."

Mr Robson said he had no idea of any alleged links between the 22-year-old man arrested and his daughter, saying, "I haven't got the faintest, mate. Bishop Christopher Saunders arrested at his home

The former Bishop of Broome, Christopher Alan Saunders, has found himself at the centre of a dramatic arrest at his residence in Western Australia's north.

Police from the WA Child Abuse squad descended upon his Piggott Way property late on Wednesday afternoon, taking the 72-year-old into custody.

Authorities have confirmed that an individual is currently assisting them with what they describe as a "longstanding investigation", and have charged Saunders with 14 counts of unlawful and indecent assault, two counts of sexual penetration without consent, and three counts of being a person in authority indecently dealing with a child.

The alleged charges date back to 2008 across Broome, Kununurra, and Kalumburu.

This arrest marks the culmination of five years of exhaustive police and internal church inquiries into disturbing allegations of sexual abuse levelled against Saunders by multiple men. These allegations initially surfaced in early 2020, sending shockwaves through the community. However, despite the gravity of the accusations, a prior investigation by WA Police concluded without any charges being brought against the former Bishop.

Throughout the ordeal, Emeritus Bishop Saunders vehemently denied any wrongdoing, maintaining his innocence despite the mounting pressure and scrutiny.

Recent developments, however, have thrust the case back into the spotlight. In the past few weeks, law enforcement authorities conducted raids on Saunders' property not once, but twice. The renewed vigour in the investigation appears to stem from a significant development: the emergence of a 200-page Vatican report, leaked late last year.

This damning report, allegedly detailing instances of misconduct and abuse within the clergy, was promptly handed over to the WA Police. Its contents have reignited interest in Saunders' case, prompting a fresh wave of investigative efforts aimed at uncovering the truth behind the allegations.

The swift and decisive action taken by law enforcement underscores the gravity with which authorities are treating allegations of abuse, particularly within the context of religious institutions. The arrest of a prominent figure such as Christopher Saunders sends a powerful message that no one, regardless of their position or influence, is above the law.

For the victims who have bravely come forward with their stories, this arrest represents a step towards justice and closure, even in the face of adversity and institutional resistance. It serves as validation for their courage in speaking out against abuses that may have long been buried in secrecy and silence.

Images: 7News
