Sandra Bullock mourns the passing of her longtime partner after private illness

<p>Hollywood star Sandra Bullock's beloved partner, Bryan Randall, has passed away at the age of 57, with the heart-wrenching news confirmed by his grieving family in a statement shared on Monday.</p> <p>“It is with great sadness that we share that on Aug. 5, Bryan Randall passed away peacefully after a three-year battle with ALS,” the statement read.</p> <p>“Bryan chose early to keep his journey with ALS private and those of us who cared for him did our best to honour his request. We are immensely grateful to the tireless doctors who navigated the landscape of this illness with us and to the astounding nurses who became our roommates, often sacrificing their own families to be with ours. At this time we ask for privacy to grieve and to come to terms with the impossibility of saying goodbye to Bryan.”</p> <p>The statement was signed with a poignant, "His Loving Family".</p> <p>Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a merciless neurological affliction that ravages  motor neurons that command delicate voluntary muscle movement. Regrettably, there is currently no remedy for the condition.</p> <p>Bullock, aged 59, crossed paths with model-turned-photographer <span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">Randall </span><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">when he was summoned to capture her son Louis’ birthday celebration in the early days of 2015. Their connection was immediate and profound.</span></p> <p>The mother-of-two, and an actress who has fiercely guarded her privacy over the years, chose to unveil fragments of her relationship's intimacy during a candid appearance on Red Table Talk in 2021.</p> <p>“I found the love of my life. We share two beautiful children — three children, [Randall’s] older daughter. It’s the best thing ever,” Bullock said at the time.</p> <p>“I don’t wanna say do it like I do it, but I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner and devoted mother … I don’t need to be told to be ever present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”</p> <p>She added that Randall was also a superb “example” to her two children: “He’s the example that I would want my children to have... <span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">I have a partner who’s very Christian and there are two different ways of looking at things. But he is an example even when I don’t agree with him... </span>I’m stubborn but sometimes I need to sit back and listen and go, ‘You’re saying it differently but we mean exactly the same thing.’</p> <p>“It’s hard to co-parent because I just want to do it myself.”</p> <p>"He was so happy, but he was scared. I'm a bulldozer. Adam Goodes opens up about major family loss

<p>Dual Brownlow medallist Adam Goodes has opened up about his late mother in a candid interview on the <em>Get Real with Rio</em> WeAre8 series.</p> <p>Speaking to former English professional footballer Rio Ferdinand, host of the show, Goodes revealed the heartbreaking news that his mother had passed away of a heart attack in February 2022.</p> <p>“She was 62, man,” Goodes said.</p> <p>He went on to share that his mother - Lisa May Goodes - had had “a really tough life”, having been the single parent to Goodes and his two younger brothers for “most of her life”. And that while she “did an incredible job … she had a lot of trauma from her childhood”.</p> <p>“She was taken away when she was five,” he explained, “put into a white family, like a lot of her siblings were, and she didn’t know at the time that she was one of 10 [children].</p> <p>“That’s the reason why I wasn’t connected to my Aboriginality [early on] because of that disconnect when she was five.”</p> <p>Goodes admitted that he had often considered what his family’s life might have looked like had his mother not experienced systemic racism and its associated practices during her early years, when she was a child of the Stolen Generation. </p> <p>And now, with children of his own and a third on the way with wife Natalie, his perspective has widened, with Goodes confessing that his own experiences have influenced how he looks at his mum’s past. </p> <p>“It just breaks my heart to think that she was living in fear her whole life that someone could knock on the door and take her kids away at any moment if she wasn’t doing the right thing by us kids,” he said. </p> <p>“So if I could go back and change anything, I would just love to have gone back to my mum’s life, and in that moment, change the fact that she was taken [away from her family]. And how just that one sliding door moment might have changed the world and life that I had.</p> <p>“And if that meant I may never have played professional sport, if it meant I might not even be alive today, just that moment that meant my mum was still connected to her family and didn’t have to live the life that she did, and how tough it was for her.</p> <p>“I’d love to be able to do that just for the old girl.”</p> <p>He then revealed that every move he makes now is weighed against the time he can spend with his family, given how he had “sacrificed having children” until he retired from the AFL. </p> <p>“That’s really important to me because I sacrificed having children when I was playing,” Goodes said. “I had my first kid when I was 39, I’d been retired for four years, I was ready to dedicate my time and energy to something else.</p> <p>“My family, even though I didn’t think of it at the time, the sacrifice I made during my football career, they’re now benefitting because of that. Not only from the success but from the financial benefits of the sacrifices that I made - being able to buy my mum a first house that she’s ever owned.</p> <p>“I’m grateful I did make those decisions at those times. The Block couple lists stunning “dream home”

Kamahl demands apology over racial tweet

<p>Singer Kamahl has demanded that radio host Philip Adams issue him a public apology over the racial tweet he made in December where Adams dubbed Kamahl an “honorary white” over his relationship with the late cricketer Donald Bradman. </p> <p>Adams claims to have contacted Kamahl, who says he has been “humiliated” by the incident, but the Malaysian-born singer claims the apology never made it to him. </p> <p>“My understanding is that Mr Adams has written to Kamahl apologising for that,” ABC boss David Anderson said of the situation. “Privately written to him, apologising for that.” </p> <p>As reported by <em>The Australian</em>, Kamahl had plenty to say in response to Anderson. </p> <p>“I resent the fact that you have used the incident on public record as a defence of how you and your management have effectively dealt with this issue,” he wrote. “You stated on the public record that Adams had in fact reached out to me to apologise personally for his highly inappropriate comment.</p> <p>“Mr Anderson, let me clarify, the only action that Adams has taken to date in dealing with this issue is to block me on Twitter and double down on his initial slur in which he referred to me as an ‘honorary white’.” </p> <p>“Bradman refused to meet Mandela?” Adams posted in a now deleted tweet. </p> <p>“Why do you think Sir Donald Bradman refused to meet Mandela?” Kamahl responded. “Why do you think the greatest ever 'spotsman' welcomed me at his home from August 1988 every year, till he left us in 2001?”</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">Why do you think Sir Donald Bradman refused to meet Mandela ? Whereas one of the most towering political figures of the 20th century was deemed unworthy of Bradman's approval," Adams fired back. </p> <p>Kamahl went on to tell Adams that  responded he “may be white, but oh your soul is black!”</p> <p>The term ‘honorary white’ is said to have originated during South Africa’s Apartheid regime in the 1960s to grant the rights and the privileges of white people to those who would otherwise be considered ‘non-white’ at the time. </p> <p>Many share Kamahl’s belief that Adams’ apology should be as public as his initial words. </p> <p>As reporter Peter Ford said on <em>6PR Breakfast</em>, “you get the feeling that they told him to write this apology and send it to get him off our backs and it’d all go away, and I don’t think that’s good enough.” </p> <p>Kamahl and his followers have been vocal on Twitter about his desire for an appropriate apology, and the impact of Adams’ words, but only time will tell if Adams is to step up and offer one. </p> <p><em>Images: Twitter </em></p>

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland says “I do”

<p dir="ltr"><em>Modern Family</em> star Sarah Hyland has finally tied the knot with her fiancé after three years of being engaged. </p> <p dir="ltr">Sarah and Wells Adams said “I do” in front of 150 guests on August 20 at the Sunstone Winery near Santa Barbara, California.</p> <p dir="ltr">Guests included some of the <em>Modern Family</em> cast including Sofia Vergara, Ariel Winter, Nolan Gould and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who officiated the ceremony.</p> <p dir="ltr">The newlyweds, who have been engaged since 2019, were due to get married in 2020 but due to the pandemic were forced to reschedule their wedding. </p> <p dir="ltr">Wells, who was the bartender on <em>Bachelor in Paradise</em>, even joked that they’d end up at a courthouse if they couldn’t finally have the wedding they wanted. </p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Sink your teeth into Adam Liaw’s new podcast

Dear Evan Hansen is an inspiring and entertaining film

<p>When <em>Dear Evan Hansen</em> was released on Broadway over five years ago it became a generation defining Broadway phenomenon. Now we have the film version with Ben Platt reprising the main role and he does this with breathtaking results.</p> <p>Some critics have complained it's not realistic for Platt to play Evan Hansen in the film version because Platt’s now 27 years old and it’s difficult for him to play an anxious, isolated high schooler. But does it matter that he’s a bit older now?</p> <p>Well, from an audience's point of view, it doesn’t and when Platt starts to sing those amazing songs, we can see why he won an Emmy and a Grammy for the Broadway production. As well, we have the song-writing team from <em>La La Land</em> and <em>The Greatest Showman</em> writing the songs and everything works. </p> <p>Plus, the serious nature of this film – the fact it deals with teenage suicide and how hard it is for some people to simply get by – makes it an important film and one which could help a lot of people. This makes <em>Dear Evan Hansen</em> an important and inspiring film.</p> <p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/CjA50VxlxAw" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></p> <p><strong>The storyline</strong></p> <p>The gist of the story is that Evan Hansen is a high school loner, awkward and inept with his only friend being the equally nerdy Jared (Nik Dodani).</p> <p>He shows up on the first day of school with a cast after breaking his arm, and he’s been instructed by his therapist to write “Dear Evan Hansen” letters to himself in order to work out his issues connecting with other people.</p> <p>Fellow student Connor Murphy (Colton Ryan) has a run-in with Evan and grabs one of said letters from a printer. A few days later, Connor’s mother Cynthia and stepfather Larry (Amy Addams, Danny Pino) show up at Evan’s school with the letter saying that Connor committed suicide, and they’ve determined that the letter “to Evan” was his suicide note.</p> <p>Instead of telling them the truth, Evan concocts an elaborate lie about being friends with Connor in order to sooth his parents’ misgivings about his death. In order to maintain that illusion, Evan continues to lie to them as well as to Connor’s sister, Zoe (Kaitlyn Dever from <em>Book Smart</em>), and his lie just snowballs.</p> <p>Pretty soon, the school’s social justice activist Alana (Amandla Stenberg) has up the Connor Project so that others who feel alone can feel seen and heard, and Evan has become hugely popular at school.</p> <p>But this doesn’t last forever and Hansen has to face up to his lie later on.</p> <p><img style="width: 0px; height: 0px;" src="/nothing.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/5d05305e536f427786bcdaecf7d7a755" /><img style="width: 500px; height: 359.29432013769366px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7844257/evan-hansen-2-um.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/5d05305e536f427786bcdaecf7d7a755" /></p> <p><strong>The singing really does work</strong></p> <p>Although a lot of the focus of the singing is on Platt and his quite beautiful voice, each of the other primary cast have some amazing singing moments, whether it’s Stenberg doing a song about feeling anonymous like Connor or the song, <em>Requiem</em>, which shows off the amazing singing prowess of Devo, Pino, and even Adams.</p> <p>Julianne Moore, who plays Evan’s hardworking single mother, even gets an absolutely epic number towards the end which will get the waterworks flowing if nothing beforehand has done that job.</p> <p><strong>The showstopper is <em>You Will be Found</em></strong></p> <p>The movie’s absolutely showstopper is the number <em>You Will be Found</em> and it’s another great example of how the songs by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul of <em>La La Land</em> fame translate so well to the screen. In fact, this song alone shows you why many people became obsessed with the Broadway version of <em>Dear Evan Hansen</em>.</p> <p>The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Stephen Chbosky (<em>The Perks of Being A Wallflower</em>, <em>Wonder</em>).and he shows here he has a strong grasp on social media, cyber bullying, viral videos, and even cancel culture and how it destroys people, including families.</p> <p><img style="width: 0px; height: 0px;" src="/nothing.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/6a5aa0b50b9b4978b0a9de506110c641" /><img style="width: 0px; height: 0px;" src="/nothing.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/93c5188b8e734808ba1159d8b2176137" /><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.6550348953141px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7844259/evan-hansen-um.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/93c5188b8e734808ba1159d8b2176137" /></p> <p><strong><em>Dear Evan Hansen</em></strong><strong> will be in cinemas by December 9</strong></p> <p>The film brings out many emotions and one of the reasons is because as we watch it, we can relate to so much of what Hansen is going through. Football legend dies after 39 years in a coma

<p><span>Jean-Pierre Adams has died at age 73.</span><br /><br /><span>Adams spent 39 years in a coma after suffering an injury and requiring surgery.</span><br /><br /><span>He was administered a near-fatal dose of anaesthetic ahead of the operation, which resulted in brain damage.</span><br /><br /><span>His wife, Bernadette Adams cared for him in their home located in the French city of Nîmes.</span><br /><br /><span>The small south town is also where his budding football career began, in 1970.</span><br /><br /><span>He played for Nîmes Olympique until 1973, before he moved to Nice and played there until 1977.</span><br /><br /><span>He joined French giants Paris Saint-Germain and played from 1977 to 1979.</span><br /><br /><span>PSG released a heartbreaking statement for him, labelling him one of the club's "glorious elders".</span><br /><br /><span>"His joie de vivre, his charisma and his experience command respect. Paris Saint-Germain offers its condolences to his family and loved ones," the club said in a statement on Monday.</span><br /><br /><span>Adams played 22 internationals for France, from 1972 to 1976.</span><br /><br /><span>French Football Federation president Noël Le Graët said Adams "remained present in our memories in such a special and sad way since his dramatic accident".</span><br /><br /><span>"Jean-Pierre Adams was an example by his life course and his career as a respected and feared player, whether with his successive clubs Nîmes, Nice and PSG in the French championship or in the French team," Le Graët said in a statement.</span><br /><br /><span>"He formed a duo of legendary defenders with Marius Trésor which all fans of the Blues and football remember.</span><br /><br /><span>"Jean-Pierre Adams has participated in the history of the French team, in its influence, in its values. Adam Goodes to release first picture book

Russell Crowe "put through a wall" on crazy night out

<p><span>NRL great Bryan Fletcher has opened up about his encounter with Russell Crowe that left the two scrapping on a boozy night out.</span><br /><br /><span>Featuring on Brett Finch’s '<em>Uncensored</em>' podcast, Fletcher revealed the wild night he had with his South Sydney teammates and Crowe in the mid-2000s.</span><br /><br /><span>Fletcher was the Rabbitohs captain in 2003 when he joined the club from the Roosters, however the team had suffered a nightmare season after winning only three games.</span><br /><br /><span>The 47-year-old said he'd never met Crowe before his move to South Sydney, but had heard a rumour that the Hollywood star had promised to take the 2002 team to the Playboy Mansion if they made the finals.</span><br /><br /><span>Fletcher says he was left with his mind in a scramble after Crowe contacted him near the middle of the 2003 season.</span></p> <p><img style="width: 500px; height: 281.25px;" src="https://oversixtydev.blob.core.windows.net/media/7841241/rabbitohs-1.jpg" alt="" data-udi="umb://media/03710573c68e4e7699511d8951dec960" /><br /><br /><span>Fletcher however believed it was not actually Crowe on the other end of the line, and instead one of his teammates was pranking him.</span><br /><br /><span>“I said, ‘How’s Meg? Is she good in the cot?’” Fletcher told Finch, referring to Meg Ryan who Crowe was dating during that time.</span><br /><br /><span>“I said something more crude than that.</span><br /><br /><span>“Then there was awkward silence and he goes, ‘Fletch, it’s Russell. Russell Crowe’.</span><br /><br /><span>"And when he dropped his voice I knew straight away it was him and I’ve just gone, ‘F***, how do I get out of this?’”</span><br /><br /><span>It turns out Crowe had wanted the South Sydney players to bring a pair of nice clothes after their training in order to take them out.</span><br /><br /><span>“My imagination just starts going so by the time I get to Sutto (John Sutton) who’s the 17th bloke, I said, ‘Sutto, you’re not going to believe this bro, we are going to the Playboy Mansion’,” Fletcher said.</span><br /><br /><span>“Everyone is frothing, thinking they’re going to the Playboy Mansion.”</span><br /><br /><span>Sadly enough, the Rabbitohs didn’t go to LA, but instead arrived at a hotel in Woolloomooloo where cricket greats Shane Warne and Merv Hughes were waiting to kick them into gear with some inspirational words.</span><br /><br /><span>However the night took a turn around 9 pm when Crowe brought out some bottles of Absinthe.</span><br /><br /><span>“We went through 10 bottles. Ten bottles later and we’re going mad. It’s on. Blokes are cheering and carrying on,” Fletcher said.</span><br /><br /><span>He went on to say Crowe had challenged him to some footy.</span><br /><br /><span>“It was an odd time but I’m thinking, ‘You’ve got to humour Russ, he’s put this drink on for us’,” Fletcher said.</span><br /><br /><span>“So Russell comes running at me and I tackle him how I always have my whole career and I miss him. He runs behind me and dives down behind an imaginary set of posts.</span><br /><br /><span>“I said, ‘Good on you Russ’ and kept walking. I take two steps and I get pushed in the back. It’s Russ. He just stops in front of me and he goes, ‘You f***ing dog. You’re a f***ing cat. You’re a waste of money, you’re South Sydney’s worst ever captain’.</span><br /><br /><span>"He was right but he didn’t have to say it to my face.</span><br /><br /><span>“The boys have jerried to what’s going on … I got the s**ts and said, ‘Let’s just do this again’.</span><br /><br /><span>“He basically gets up and runs at me and I get under his ribs and drive him … and put him through a wall and the boys are just going, ‘What the f*** are you doing? Why are you doing this?’</span><br /><br /><span>“Russ pops up, just shakes his head and goes, ‘That’s what I want to see!’ That was his motivation, so we end up having a terrific night, getting on the p***.”</span><br /><br /><span>Crowe's motivational tactics seemed to do the job as the Rabbitohs would go on to thrash Melbourne Storm that weekend.</span><br /><br /><span>However their victory was short-lived.</span><br /><br /><span>“We beat them 42-10 and we did not win another game all year,” Fletcher admitted.</span></p> <p><em>Images: Getty</em></p>

Bryan Brown addresses "rubbish" COVID-19 rumour

<div class="post_body_wrapper"> <div class="post_body"> <div class="body_text redactor-styles redactor-in"> <p>Actor Bryan Brown has spoken out after he and his wife Rachel Ward were falsely linked to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Northern Beaches last year.</p> <p>The Palm Beach star faced an abundance of hate online after it was claimed that he and Ward were responsible for the Avalon cluster after a spike in cases resulted in new restrictions and lockdown.</p> <p>“I’m not on social media so I didn’t know anything about it until suddenly I was getting phone calls from everyone,” Brown told Confidential.</p> <p>It was falsely claimed that Brown and Ward had caught the strain of the virus from the US after a recent trip and that it was spread after a personal training class at their home.</p> <p>“It was a load of rubbish ... I have no idea how this started,” Brown said.</p> <p>“I haven’t been overseas in 18 months. I didn’t have COVID-19. I don’t have a personal trainer. I don’t live on the Northern Beaches. I have no idea how it happened.”</p> <p>At the time, Ward also set the record straight on social media.</p> <p>“Just to set the record straight. I haven’t been to US for over 5 yrs [sic],” she wrote on Instagram.</p> <p>“I don’t have a personal trainer. I’ve been in mid north coast for past 10 days. I don’t have Covid. Pic taken 15 mins ago. "Absolutely devastated": Man's punishment for 5-year-old turns fatal

<p>A man has been arrested after his attempt to discipline his fiancé’s son took a turn for the worst.</p> <p>The soldier in the US state of Alabama was charged with reckless murder after he allegedly forced his girlfriend’s five-year-old son to get out of a car at night along a road.</p> <p>The young child died when he was struck by a vehicle.</p> <p>Army Sgt Bryan Starr, 35, went on to surrender himself to Russell County sheriffs after he was charged with 5-year-old Austin Birdseye’s death.</p> <p>Starr admitted to investigators that the boy began acting up in the car as they travelled on a highway near their home Sunday night.</p> <p>He went on to punish the boy by pulling his vehicle over into a church parking lot and making the boy stand outside in the rain.</p> <p>The child’s mother was not in the vehicle, he added.</p> <p>Starr lost sight of Austin but knew something was wrong when cars stopped in the middle of the road, as there the little boy had been struck by an oncoming Toyota Avalon.</p> <p>Sheriff Heath Taylor said the road was dark and the driver who struck him is not at fault, in a press conference on Monday.</p> <p>“We have their information and we’ve spoken to them and will speak to them again. But at this point, there’s no indication that they had any chance of not hitting the little guy,” Taylor said,<a rel="noopener" href="https://www.ledger-enquirer.com/news/local/crime/article247505815.html" target="_blank"> as reported by the Ledger-Enquirer</a>.</p> <p>The child died in hospital and Starr was charged with murder because he showed reckless disregard for the child’s safety, police said.</p> <p>An online campaign that was created to raise funds for Austin’s death said the little boy often sang loud “at the top of his lungs” to songs but the sheriff says he still could not understand his would-have been stepfathers’ actions.</p> <p>“What do you say to that? What is your thought process when you tell a five-year-old to get out of the car on a rainy night, because they were being loud in the car?” he said.</p> <p>“It’s just heartbreaking.”</p> <p>The GoFundMe set up to support the family has far eclipsed its $5,000 target.</p> <p>“Austin was always the centre of any impromptu living room dance party, the wonderful little boy who would chat about almost anything and with anyone in the grocery store, was the one who knew all the words to every song,” the page says.</p> <p>“He was always loving and never let any opportunity pass him by to enjoy fun. We are absolutely devastated by Austin’s passing.”</p>

“Prison should be on the table”: Former MasterChef winner Adam Liaw slams chefs for wage theft

<p>Former <em>MasterChef Australia</em><span> </span>winner Adam Liaw was fired up in Monday night’s <em>Q&amp;A</em> as wage theft was one of the topics amongst the panellists.</p> <p>Liaw has said that there are “no excuses” for restaurants that underpay their staff. He revealed that when he started out in the restaurant industry, he had been underpaid and mentioned that jail time should be an option.</p> <p>“Prison for doing large-scale systemic wage theft is certainly something that should be on the table,” he said.</p> <p>“I have worked in an awful lot of restaurants. I have flipped burgers, washed dishes and cleaned toilets and in the vast majority of those jobs I was not paid an award wage,” he told<span> </span><em>Q&amp;A</em><span> </span>guest host Fran Kelly.</p> <p>“Generally, the larger the organisation, the organisations that could afford to have payroll people to keep an eye on whether everyone was being paid accordingly, were the ones that paid better.</p> <p>“Mum and Dad restaurants that couldn’t keep across the complexities of the award wage system were the ones that were paying below the award wage.</p> <p>“In my case that was $10 an hour and $5 an hour in some cases. They don’t want to be associated with someone who has done that to his staff.”</p> <p>Tasmanian Liberal Senator Eric Abetz was in agreement with Kitching.</p> <p>“Wage theft is completely unacceptable. Stealing from employees — and that’s what it is — should be treated by the criminal law in exactly the same way as employees stealing from employers.”</p> <p>“But when it’s so systemic, especially in bigger institutions, then one suspects that it might not have been an honest mistake of a Mum and Dad restaurant accidentally reading the wrong award.</p> <p>“When we’re dealing with the figures that have been mentioned, clearly something is terribly wrong. Theft is theft."</p>

Waleed Aly's challenge after Adam Goodes' documentary

<p>Waleed Aly has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Adam Goodes after the controversial documentary addressing the bullying and racism the former Sydney Swans star faced in Australia sparked an outpouring of emotion and support.</p> <p><em>The Final Quarter</em>, which was aired on Thursday night on Channel 10, showed the booing and abuse Goodes dealt with over the last three seasons of his career, leading him into an early retirement.</p> <p>In the special late-night edition of <a rel="noopener" href="https://10daily.com.au/news/sport/a190717fgbdv/adam-goodes-was-failed-by-the-game-and-fans-he-loved-20190718" target="_blank"><em>The Project</em></a> that followed the documentary, Aly spoke with indigenous representatives and media and sporting figures to discuss the issue.</p> <p>“It was a difficult thing to go through ... what should have been a spectacular finish to an incredible career is just extremely sad,” said Jude Bolton, former Sydney Swans player and teammate.</p> <p>Chip Le Grand, journalist at <em>The Australian,</em> said the doco demonstrated how “a lot of us don’t seem to even know racism when we see it”.</p> <p>He criticised the AFL’s failure to step in and defend Goodes.</p> <p>“They just needed someone to clearly stand up, and it was [Chief Executive Officer] Gillon McLachlan’s time, in that instance, to just say: ‘Look, yes, it is complicated but, clearly, race is a part of this, it’s a big part of this, it’s ugly and it has to stop’,” he said.</p> <p>Aly closed the discussion by making a statement on what the nation should do from this point.</p> <p>“It seems that what began as personal torment for Adam quickly became a national controversy,” Aly said.</p> <p>“The question now really is whether it can become a productive national conversation. And the answer to that question rests with each of us.”</p> <p>The AFL released an apology on the same day of the film premiere.</p> <p>“Adam, who represents so much that is good and unique about our game, was subject to treatment that drove him from football. The game did not do enough to stand with him and call it out,” the statement said.</p> <p>“We apologise unreservedly for our failures during this period.</p> <p>“Failure to call out racism and not standing up for one of our own let down all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander players, past and present.”</p>

<p>Celebrity Adam Liaw shares a recipe that adds a tropical touch to your desserts.</p> <p>The sweet and unique taste of custard apple, slightly reminiscent of pineapple and vanilla, is a perfect match with dark rum and coconut in this creamy and delicious panna cotta.</p> <p><strong>Ingredients</strong></p> <ul> <li>400ml pouring cream</li> <li>400ml coconut milk</li> <li>2 tsp dark rum</li> <li>1 tbsp honey</li> <li>2 tbsp caster sugar</li> <li>18g powdered gelatin</li> <li>400ml custard apple pulp and juice</li> <li>Toasted coconut or macadamia nuts, to serve</li> </ul> <p><strong>Method</strong></p> <ol> <li>Place the pouring cream, coconut milk, rum, honey and caster sugar in a saucepan and sprinkle the gelatin over the top.</li> <li>Heat the liquid gently until nearly simmering, stirring until all of the gelatin has dissolved. (To check this, lift your stirring spoon out of the mixture and make sure there is no gelatin granules sticking to it.)</li> <li>Allow to cool for 5 minutes and then stir through the custard apple pulp and juice.</li> <li>Freeze in individual moulds or glasses for at least 2 hours, or until the panna cotta is set.</li> <li>To serve, scatter the top of the panna cotta with either toasted coconut or macadamia nuts.</li> </ol> <p><em>Recipe courtesy of <a href="http://www.custardapple.com.au/">Custard Apples Australia</a>.</em></p>

Adam Hills' heated moment during live TV spat with Piers Morgan

<p>Aussie comedian Adam Hills has clashed with British TV host Piers Morgan on <em>Good Morning Britain</em> following a former online spat over masculinity.</p> <p>When Hills appeared on the show Wednesday morning to promote his series <em>The Last Leg</em>, Morgan took the opportunity to confront the comedian over a tweet he posted last year.</p> <p>In October 2018, Hills called Morgan a “mercenary” after the morning TV presenter attacked James Bond actor Daniel Craig’s masculinity for wearing a papoose to carry his daughter Ella. </p> <p>“You’ll honestly say anything for ratings/cash/views,” Hills wrote on Twitter at the time.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"> <p dir="ltr">Oh fuck off Piers you mercenary. Or you are pretending to be a terribly odious human being in order to be paid.”</p> <p>Morgan replied: “I take issue with that — apparently my odious views are shared by 90 per cent of the country; do you think <em>The Last Leg</em> is just a bunch of smart-arse snowflake liberals all arguing over people who have the more mainstream view?”</p> <p><em>The Last Leg</em> host retorted: “Is that worse than being a snowflake liberal but pretending not to be, which is what you do?”</p> <p>Morgan’s co-host Susanna Reid and fellow guest Alex Brooker intervened to move the segment on.</p>

Bryan Brown and Rachel Ward become grandparents for the first time!

<p>Bryan Brown, 71, and Rachel Ward, 61, are now proud grandparents to a beautiful baby boy named Zan Neathway Gooding.</p> <p>Their daughter Matilda Brown welcomed her first child with fiancé and former <em>My Kitchen Rules </em>star Scott Gooding on Wednesday.</p> <p>The new mum took to Instagram to share some sweet snaps of the little bub in his grandparents’ arms, as they lovingly looked down on the bundle of joy.</p> <p>In one photo, Bryan looked positively smitten as he gazed lovingly at the newborn sleeping in his arms.</p> <blockquote style="background: #FFF; Masterchef’s Adam Liaw shares $7 allergy-free snack recipe

<p><em>Masterchef</em> winner Adam Liaw has gone viral for a $7 recipe that will create a week’s worth of lunchbox treats.</p> <p>The father-of-two took to Twitter to share his recipe of chocolate-covered breadsticks. Titled “Fat Pocky”, Liaw said the recipe is free from nuts, eggs and dairy, and only requires five minutes to make.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none" data-lang="en"> <p dir="ltr">I am going to write a recipe for something that you can make 25 portions of in 5 minutes that can keep unrefrigerated for 8 hours and contains no dairy, nuts or eggs. I don't know what it is yet but I will make it work for the good of us all.</p> — Adam Liaw (@adamliaw) <a href="https://twitter.com/adamliaw/status/1108493281296437248?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 20, 2019</a></blockquote> <p>There are three main ingredients involved, Liaw outlined: 25 plain breadsticks, 375g dark chocolate and a pack of sugar strands or nonpareil, altogether costing $7.</p> <p>Explaining the method, the 40-year-old wrote: “Just microwave the chocolate for 1 minute, then blasts of 30 seconds until it's melted. Probably 3-4 minutes all up.”</p> <p>After the chocolate is completely liquefied, “Put the chocolate into a glass and then just dunk the bloody things [i.e. breadsticks] in there.</p> <p>“Shake off as much chocolate as you can. You'll need to top up the glass with a teaspoon or so of chocolate every 2-3 sticks. Wait for it to harden then break it up and put it in a Ziploc bag for next time.”</p> <p>The recipe came after Liaw responded to a joke on how parents are expected to create costumes or treats for “some school celebration” at the most unexpected times. “No kidding, but my son has been at school for exactly ONE TERM and this has already happened about 9 times,” he wrote.</p> <p>The series of tweets has received thousands of likes and retweets. “This is freaking brilliant,” a mother responded.</p> <p>“Thank you for saving my life.
