The extraordinary amount the I'm A Celebrity contestants are paid

<p>Each year, an array of reality stars, sporting legends and international names head into the South African jungle, fighting for the chance to emerge victorious. </p> <p>At the end of each season of <em>I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here</em> when the winner is crowned, their prize is revealed as a huge cash donation to a charity of their choice.</p> <p>Despite the celebs not taking anything home for winning, that doesn't mean they walk away from the jungle empty handed, as each of the celebrities are paid a hefty salary for their appearance on the show. </p> <p>As season 10 of the show premiered on Monday, season two winner Brendan ‘Fev’ Fevola spoke candidly about the salaries and explained that you get more money the longer you stay in the jungle.</p> <p>“In 2015 I got paid $250,000 upfront, and then $5,000 every show after the [first] two weeks,” he said on <em>The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick</em> on Monday.</p> <p>“So you’d lay there on a Sunday and you’d think, ‘There’s another 7 days, there’s $35,000, boom. Hopefully, they don’t have an eviction during the week’.”</p> <p>According to <em><a href="https://www.pedestrian.tv/entertainment/how-much-im-a-celebrity-pay-australia/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener" data-i13n="cpos:6;pos:1" data-ylk="slk:Pedestrian;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas" data-rapid_p="13" data-v9y="1">Pedestrian</a></em>, one of this year’s male celebrities is being paid $90,000 for a minimum of two weeks in the jungle and will receive an extra $5,500 every day following that they don't get evicted.</p> <p>The publication also asked a handful of 2024 contestants directly about their pay cheques, with reality star Callum Hole revealing that he was paid “good money” and “a lot more than <em>Love Island</em>”.</p> <p>Despite Hole's claims, influencer and former <em>Big Brother</em> star Skye Wheatley said money wasn’t her motivation for going on the show and she would actually be earning more if she stayed home.</p> <p>“I’d do it for free,” she said. “It’s for charity, babes, who gives a f**k about the money. I love that it can be for charity and I love the opportunity. So I’m very grateful.”</p> <p>Former <em>MasterChef</em> contestant Khanh Ong revealed that he had been asked to head into the jungle several times, and this year he was offered “a considerable amount more” than the first time he was asked.</p> <p><em>Image credits: Network 10</em></p>

Drinking olive oil: a health and beauty elixir or celebrity fad in a shot glass?

<p><em><a href="https://theconversation.com/profiles/hazel-flight-536221">Hazel Flight</a>, <a href="https://theconversation.com/institutions/edge-hill-university-1356">Edge Hill University</a></em></p> <p>In the ever-changing world of wellness trends and celebrity endorsed health fads there is a new trend on the scene: daily olive oil shots.</p> <p>Celebrities such as <a href="https://poosh.com/why-kourtney-kardashian-drinks-tablespoon-evoo/">Kourtney Kardashian</a>, Beyonce, Gwyneth Paltrow and <a href="https://www.womanandhome.com/life/news-entertainment/jennifer-lopez-credits-her-grandmas-crazy-beauty-secret-for-glowing-skin-and-chances-are-you-already-have-it-at-home/">Jennifer Lopez</a> all extol the virtues of swigging extra virgin as well as slathering it on their skin, crediting olive oil for their glowing complexions.</p> <p>Lopez even based her JLo Beauty brand around the kitchen staple, claiming that her age-defying looks were not the result of botox or surgery but the family beauty secret: <a href="https://graziamagazine.com/us/articles/jennifer-lopez-skincare-routine/">moisturising with olive oil</a>.</p> <p>And she’s in good company. Hollywood star <a href="https://jnews.uk/goldie-hawn-swears-by-olive-oil-for-perfect-skin-at-76-best-life/">Goldie Hawn reportedly drinks olive oil</a> before bed and uses it topically as a moisturiser, while <a href="https://www.redonline.co.uk/beauty/a31184313/julia-roberts-olive-oil-hair-skin/">beauty icon Sophia Loren</a> really goes to town by bathing in the stuff.</p> <p>While these celebrities swear by the skin beautifying properties of olive oil, some skin types should <a href="https://scholarhub.ui.ac.id/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1182&amp;context=jdvi#:%7E:text=Background%3A%20Dry%20skin%20or%20xerosis,water%20in%20the%20stratum%20corneum.">give it a swerve</a>. Those <a href="https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/dth.14436">prone to acne</a> or eczema, for example, might find the <a href="https://www.jacionline.org/article/S0091-6749(21)00813-7/fulltext">olive oil exacerbates their problems</a>. Some <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22995032/">dermatologists warn against</a> using it as skin care altogether – bad news for JLo.</p> <figure><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/3F7uc9jV9V4?wmode=transparent&amp;start=0" width="440" height="260" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></figure> <p>Thanks largely to celebrity promotion, drinking olive oil has now become a <a href="https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/lifestyle/tiktok-dua-lipa-ice-cream-olive-oil-b2479725.html">worldwide TikTok sensation</a>. Viral videos show influencers tossing back shots of cult olive oil brands, and proclaiming a wide range of health benefits from improving digestion to clearing up acne.</p> <p>Celebrity and influencers are sold on liquid gold but what about the rest of us? Can drinking olive oil really work on miracles for our health?</p> <h2>The benefits of olive oil</h2> <p>There’s no doubt that olive oil is full of good stuff. It’s high in polyphenols and antioxidants, which have protective qualities for the body’s tissues. It’s also a rich source of essential fatty acids, including oleic acid, which is known for <a href="https://foodrevolution.org/blog/olives-and-olive-oil-benefits/#:%7E:text=Compared%20with%20olives%2C%20olive%20oil,in%20polyphenols%20and%20antioxidants%2C%20however">lowering cholesterol</a> so reducing the chances of heart disease.</p> <p>Research has found that the inclusion of olive oil in the diet shows encouraging effects in a variety of <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">inflammatory and medical diseases</a> and can <a href="https://doi.org/10.3389%2Ffnut.2022.980429">support weight management</a> if used correctly.</p> <p>Replacing butter, margarine, mayonnaise and dairy fat with olive oil has been linked to a <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016%2Fj.jacc.2021.10.041">lower risk of mortality</a>. There’s also evidence to suggest that the protective compounds in olive oil may help <a href="https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0261649">guard against cancer</a>, <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10376491/">dementia</a> and <a href="https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/29141573/">support the liver</a> <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7916323/">and kidneys</a>.</p> <p>But none of this is new information to health professionals. The health benefits of <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7466243/">extra virgin olive oil</a> are <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">well researched</a> and nutritionists have promoted olive oil as a swap for saturated cooking fat for years.</p> <p>After all, the <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC7536728/">Mediterranean diet</a> has been touted as one of the healthiest diets in the world for decades. The diet itself can vary from region to region, but <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu15092127">virgin olive oil</a> is a <a href="https://doi.org/10.3390%2Fnu11092039">consistent element</a>. It’s used as the <a href="https://www.themediterraneandish.com/cooking-with-olive-oil/">main source of cooking fat</a> and included in everything from salad dressings to bread.</p> <figure><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/krFcE5IPT7g?wmode=transparent&amp;start=0" width="440" height="260" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="allowfullscreen"></iframe></figure> <h2>Can fat be healthy? Yes and no</h2> <p>Fats are crucial for a balanced diet, aiding in the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins A,D,E,K and enhancing the nutritional value of meals.</p> <p>However, fat of any kind is also dense in calories and excessive consumption <a href="https://doi.org/10.1159/000336848">can lead to weight gain</a>. According to the <a href="https://www.who.int/news/item/17-07-2023-who-updates-guidelines-on-fats-and-carbohydrates">World Health Organization</a>, to prevent unhealthy weight gain, adults should limit their intake of fat to 30% of total energy intake with no more than 10% coming from saturated fats.</p> <p>Two tablespoons of olive oil – the standard amount in the shots taken by celebrities and social media influencers – contain 28g of fat (238 calories) and 3.8g of saturated fat equating to <a href="https://fdc.nal.usda.gov/fdc-app.html#/food-details/171413/nutrients">19% of the recommended daily intake</a>.</p> <p>That daily shot of extra virgin, then, might not be the best idea. Adding small amounts of olive oil to meals throughout the day is a more balanced – and appetising – approach to incorporating healthy fats into your diet.</p> <p>But what about Kourtney Kardashian’s <a href="https://poosh.com/why-kourtney-kardashian-drinks-tablespoon-evoo/#:%7E:text=First%20things%20first%2C%20it's%20recommended,a.m.%20(every%20other%20day).">claim that</a>: “It’s recommended to consume extra virgin olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach so the oil can coat your system and neutralize your stomach walls for optimal benefits?”</p> <p><a href="https://www.oliveoiltimes.com/briefs/consuming-olive-oil-on-an-empty-stomach-health-benefits/91503">Some brands</a> have also echoed the idea that consuming olive oil on an empty stomach offers unique health benefits. But no. There’s no scientific evidence to suggest this is true.</p> <p>For a healthy but more satisfying snack, Kourtney might try including a handful of olives into her daily diet. Olives offer the same rich array of nutrients, including vitamins E, A and K, alongside essential minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and amino acids.</p> <p>Unlike olive oil, olives have the added benefit of a high fibre content. The combination of fat and fibre enhances feelings of satiety, making olives a nutritious addition to the diet.<!-- Below is The Conversation's page counter tag. Jackie O celebrates 49th birthday

<p>Jackie O Henderson has big things planned for her 49th, as her co-workers surprised her with an extravagant custom birthday cake. </p> <p>Her KIISFM team surprised the radio star with balloons and a yacht-shaped cake, topped with a fondant character wearing a bikini that resembled her on Wednesday.</p> <p>Henderson also revealed that she had big things planned for her 49th, with a boat party scheduled for the weekend. </p> <p>"I just feel like every single year of my life I have ignored birthdays and never wanted to do a party," she said. </p> <p>"I just don't like doing it and I thought 'You know what? Why not! Like who cares how old you are or whether it's a milestone, I'm going to throw a big party on a boat.' Better Homes and Gardens unveils new celebrity chef

<p>Last November, <em>Better Homes and Gardens </em><a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/entertainment/tv/better-homes-and-gardens-star-announces-exit-after-20-years" target="_blank" rel="noopener">farewelled</a> chef "Fast" Ed Halmagyi, after 20 years on the show. </p> <p>Fans have since been left wondering who will replace him, but the wait is now over. </p> <p>Celebrated chef and <em>My Kitchen Rules</em> judge Colin Fassnidge is set to join the cast  from Friday, 2 February 2024. </p> <p>The Irish TV personality will share his much-loved family recipes as the show celebrates it's 30th anniversary.</p> <p>“Working on Better Homes and Gardens really feels like coming home,” he told<em> 7Life</em>. </p> <p>“I’ve been friends with Johanna Griggs ever since I started at Channel 7, and the rest of the cast and I get on like a house on fire.</p> <p>“I can’t wait to get out on the road and travel around this beautiful country, cooking with some of the best and freshest produce in the world.”</p> <p>He also added that he is a bit intimidated as he has big shoes to fill in after Fast Ed's departure. </p> <p>“It’s a little bit scary, but it’s a good challenge and a lot of fun as well,” he said.</p> <p>Fassnidge also shared what he is planning to bring to the table in the coming year. </p> <p>“This show means a lot of things to a lot of people. I’m going to bring a bit of Irish spice to the table!</p> <p>“I want to do fun, affordable cooking — I’m a chef, but I’ve also got kids as well, so I know how hard it is to put food on the table in this day and age with the cost of living and interest rate rises.</p> <p>“I want to show people how they can use cheaper cuts of meat, how to save time, how to feed the family on a budget, but still make delicious meals.”</p> <p><em>Better Homes and Gardens </em>executive producer Russell Palmer said he was excited to welcome the <em>MKR</em> star to the team, saying it marked the beginning of a new chapter for the show. </p> <p>“He’s a talented and well-respected chef and brings his own charm and innovation, which is sure to inspire our audience,”  he said. </p> <p><em>Images: 7News</em></p>

Chrissie Swan celebrates incredible milestone

<p>Chrissie Swan has marked a big health milestone, taking to Instagram to celebrate her achievement that she doesn't talk about much publicly. </p> <p>The TV presenter revealed that she has been alcohol-free for 1000 days. </p> <p>“I don’t talk much about giving up the booze because it’s such a personal thing and not right for everyone – also I don’t feel comfortable encouraging people to do anything they haven’t arrived at themselves,”  she admitted in her post. </p> <p>She added that after 1000 days she knows "for sure it has been the right thing for me so I’m putting this here for anyone who’s thinking that maybe drinking isn’t fun anymore."</p> <p>"I love love love being able to drive everywhere, leave places whenever I like and especially ESPECIALLY going to bed knowing I’ve been the most authentic version of myself AND waking up excited about another brilliant day," she said. </p> <p>She revealed that she never had a “massive, long standing” problem with alcohol, but had found herself consuming it more during the lockdowns. </p> <p>“I just knew it had to go. It was actually quite easy for me and the positives started within the first week. Mainly – relief. Princess Eugenie celebrates milestone anniversary

<p>Princess Eugenie has celebrated her fifth wedding anniversary to Jack Brooksbank with a heart-warming throwback video from the big day. </p> <p>Eugenie and Jack got married at St George's Chapel in Windsor on October 12th 2018, with 3,000 people lining the streets to catch a glimpse of the royal wedding. </p> <p>Now, five years on, the Princess has shared a previously unseen glimpse into their big day, along with a more recent candid family portrait.</p> <p>The sweet snap, which is the first public image of the family-of-four together, showed Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson's daughter with her husband and their two children, two-year-old son August and four-month-old son Ernest, posing on a beach.</p> <p>"5 years ago today...," Eugenie captioned the clip, which was set to the song <em>You’ve Got the Love</em> by Florence and the Machine.</p> <blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Australia's oldest man celebrates 110th birthday

<p>Ken Weeks has lived through two world wars, the Great depression and two pandemics, but the senior remains unstoppable as he marked his 110th birthday. </p> <p>The father of two, who was born in Grafton in 1913, is believed to be Australia's oldest man, and having been through it all, there was only one way to celebrate his birthday - with loved ones and 300 customised cans of Heinz baked beans. </p> <p>The senior has been devouring baked beans for "more than 30 years", and in honour of his 110th birthday, his friends at the Whiddon aged-care facility organised a special surprise. </p> <p>"We reached out [to the company] and said, 'Can you provide us with a pallet of baked beans?' Because that's something he tells us has fuelled him for 100 years," Whiddon chief executive Chris Mamarelis told <em>ABC News</em>. </p> <p>"And to their credit they've gone and created this wonderful label with his face on there, so that's added this special touch to the day."</p> <p>The custom cans are not the only special gift as Ken also received  a letter of congratulations from King Charles.</p> <p>"On my 100th birthday I got one from the Queen," Ken said.</p> <p>Ken also celebrated his birthday with his extended family, and when asked what his secret was to living  a long life he simply replied: "Oh yes, I've always been active." </p> <p>"All his places had stairs, so he always used to climb two steps at a time and he's always been so active," his grandson Jason Weeks confirmed. </p> <p>The senior also lives a very clean life, according to his son Ian Weeks who said his father doesn't drink smoke and eats "just a fairly plain food." </p> <p>Ian also said that despite his dad being in such good shape, there are still signs of his age. </p> <p>"I wouldn't count on more than a year at a time," Ian said.</p> <p>"But he's still very fit and active, it's just that his hearing and eyesight have gone a bit."</p> <p>The centenarian has five grandchildren and several step-grandchildren. </p> <p><em>Images: Nine</em></p>

<p>Dave Hughes is the latest media personality to open up about his worst celebrity interview. </p> <p>The <em>2Day FM</em> breakfast host named and shamed the singer in an interview with <em>news.com.au’s Shock Jocks, </em>where radio hosts have to answer tough questions or be "electrocuted". </p> <p>“Avril Lavigne was a shocker,”  he said, referring to the pop-punk sensation, who peaked during the early 2000s. </p> <p>“She had a bad attitude, it was back around Sk8er Boi when she was at the height of her fame,” he added. </p> <p>“She wouldn’t look at any of us. <p>Queen Rania of Jordan has celebrated her 53rd birthday by giving back to a local village in a few new photos shared on Instagram. </p> <p>The Jordanian queen visited the Firyal Kofahi's home-based kitchen in Irbid's Hawar village on the eve of her birthday, and shared a few photos of her spending time with the local women. </p> <p>"Lovely to spend the afternoon with you! "Finally a celebrity fighting back": Cardi B hurls mic at concert goer

Inside celebrity chef’s star-studded wedding

<p dir="ltr">Chicken heiress Tamie Ingham and celebrity chef Guillaume Brahimi have tied the knot in a star-studded Paris ceremony and reception.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ingham, 38, is a shoe designer, stylist, and the granddaughter of the late Walter Ingham, founder of Ingham’s chickens.</p> <p dir="ltr">Ingham and Brahimi, 55, married at the historic art museum Musée Rodin, before celebrating their reception hosted at Maxim's de Paris, with their high-profile guests.</p> <p dir="ltr">A few of the stars in attendance included Today Show host Karl Stefanovic, and his wife Jasmine, who was Ingham’s bridesmaid.</p> <p dir="ltr">Media heir Lachlan Murdoch and his wife Sarah were also in attendance with the former serving as Brahimi's groomsman.</p> <p dir="ltr">The newlyweds met through Karl and Jasmine Stefanovic, who introduced them to each other two years after their own wedding.</p> <p dir="ltr">It was reported that Karl was the master of ceremonies for the couple's reception.</p> <p dir="ltr">Prior to the wedding Ingham and Brahimi hosted a rehearsal dinner at the exclusive gourmet seafood restaurant, Girafe Paris, on Wednesday.</p> <p dir="ltr">Snaps from occasion gave fans a glimpse into the intimate event.</p> <p dir="ltr">Nova radio star Michael 'Wippa' Wipfli and his wife Lisa Wipfli were one of the high-profilers attending the rehearsal dinner and were pictured posing in front of a stunning view overlooking the Eiffel Tower.</p> <p dir="ltr">Lisa Wipfli also shared a snap of the bride looking stunning in a floor-length dress with a plunging neckline at the rehearsal dinner with the caption: “I mean…wow”.</p> <p dir="ltr">A few other stars who attended the event included former Olympian Grant Kenny, celebrity chefs Matt Moran and Shannon Bennett, AFL head Gillon McLachlan and his wife Laura Blythe, as well as property investor Deke Miskin and his designer wife, Eve Miskin, among others.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Instagram</em></p>

"Wonderful celebration of her life": Clare Nowland's fond farewell

<p dir="ltr">Great-grandmother and beloved community member Clare Nowland will be farewelled in a “grand celebration” focusing on her extraordinary life, and not her tragic <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/news/news/clare-nowland-dies-officer-charged" target="_blank" rel="noopener">death</a> after being tasered by police.</p> <p dir="ltr">Parish priest of St Patrick’s Catholic Church and a very close friend of Nowland, Father Croker, has told <em>The Daily Telegraph</em> that her funeral service will be held on June 13 from 11 am.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It will be a very big funeral, no doubt … and that’s the family’s request that it’s a wonderful celebration of her life,” he revealed.</p> <p dir="ltr">Nowland had lived a full life with 24 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren, who will be among the hundreds of mourners expected at the funeral service which will be held at St Patrick’s Church.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Throughout her long life her faith was always so important to her … and of course, her large family,” he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">He added that the great-grandmother had a passion for helping others, especially the other residents at their local nursing home.</p> <p dir="ltr">“She was a very smart lady, always helping people … she would go each week, when her health was better, and feed the residents at a local nursing home.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Nowland had suffered serious head injuries after being tasered by police at a Cooma Nursing home on May 17. She passed away peacefully a week later surrounded by her family.</p> <p dir="ltr">Senior Constable Kristian White was <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/health/caring/new-details-emerge-on-clare-nowland-s-tasering" target="_blank" rel="noopener">suspended</a> and charged with recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.</p> <p dir="ltr">He is due to face Cooma Local Court on July 5.</p> <p><em>Images: Facebook/ 9News / Nine</em></p>

Larry Emdur celebrates overwhelming success of The Chase

<p>The Aussie game show <em>The Chase</em> has achieved overwhelming success, with the series recently receiving the highest ratings out of every entertainment show on TV.</p> <p>The show, hosted by Larry Emdur, appeared on Seven in 2015, and consistently rises above its direct rival, Nine’s <em>Hot Seat</em> with Eddie McGuire, proving victorious in 2022 after winning 40 weeks with a total audience of 829,000.</p> <p>By May 23, it attracted the largest audience of all TV entertainment programs, including those in the 7:30pm prime time slot.</p> <p><em>The Chase</em>, which airs at 5pm, saw a staggering 567,000 viewers across the five-city metro rankings on May 23, well ahead of<em> Hot Seat</em>, which raked in 408,000.</p> <p>It also beat some of the other prime time broadcasts, including Ten’s <em>MasterChef Australia</em>, which aired to 427,000 households. Seven’s <em>Highway Patrol</em> that received 350,000, ABC’s <em>7:30</em> report which came in at 438,000 and Nine’s new reality show <em>The Summit</em>, which had 395,000 viewers.</p> <p>Additionally, <em>The Chase</em> trumped <em>The Project</em>, which aired at 7pm to 307,000 viewers. The only programs that were ahead of <em>The Chase</em> were the Seven and Nine early evening news bulletins and <em>A Current Affair</em>.</p> <p>Emdur, who took over on the show in 2021 after former host Andrew O’Keefe’s contract wasn’t renewed, celebrated the show’s huge win on Instagram.</p> <p>He shared a photo of his TV screen showing one of the Chasers, ‘The Governess’ Anne Hegerty, and thanked fans of the show for tuning in each afternoon.</p> <p>“Thank you for making The Chase the number 1 Entertainment show in Australia [Tuesday] night,” he wrote.</p> <p>“We had a bigger audience between 5-6pm than the big dogs in prime time, that makes me a very proud old game show host bimbo.”</p> <p>And its success over the “big dogs” wasn’t a one-off, with <em>The Chase</em> once again trumping the ratings over prime time programs on May 25 with 543,000 viewers, ahead of <em>MasterChef</em> (390,000), Nine’s NRL coverage (338,000) and <em>Home And Away</em> (451,000).</p> <p>The show’s success comes amid reports that channel Nine is testing new formats in its 5pm slot to bump up the competition.</p> <p>In April, the network denied rumours that <em>Hot Seat</em> was being cut, despite putting out casting calls for new game shows.</p> <p>The series started airing in 2009 as a spin-off of <em>Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? </em>which McGuire also hosted from 1999 until 2006.</p> <p>However, a recent casting call fuelled rumours <em>Hot Seat</em> could be axed to make way for a local version of the hit UK game show <em>Tipping Point</em>, which airs on Nine at 3pm.</p> <p>An official call-out from Endemol Shine Australia, the production company that makes <em>Tipping Point</em>, was released on Twitter in April, revealing the show was filming “Australian episodes” in the UK.</p> <p>A move to record local episodes of <em>Tipping Point</em> follows similar plans from Nine to make Aussie episodes of US quiz show <em>Jeopardy!</em></p> <p>The network confirmed in April that British comedian Stephen Fry would host a six-part special featuring Australian contestants. World’s oldest dog celebrates birthday in style

<p dir="ltr">The world’s oldest dog has reached another major life milestone, marking the momentous occasion with a fun-filled 31st birthday party. </p> <p dir="ltr">Bobi, a purebred Rafeiro do Alentejo from the rural Portuguese village of Conqueiros, was born on May 11 1992, and reached the ripe old age of 31 in 2023. </p> <p dir="ltr">And so, it only stood to reason to celebrate, as Bobi’s human family made sure to do with their furry friend - and over 100 other guests from all over the world. </p> <p dir="ltr">Prior to Bobi’s big day, his owner - Leonel Costa - had informed Bobi’s supporters that it was set to be a “very traditional” Portuguese party. </p> <p dir="ltr">The menu was simple, and full of Bobi’s favourites, from local meat to fish, with extra set aside for the human food loving dog.</p> <p dir="ltr">As for entertainment, a dance troupe were scheduled to perform, with one surprise guest star joining their number - Bobi himself.</p> <p dir="ltr">It was a big affair for the canine, who has had a busy life since <a href="https://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/family-pets/miraculous-meet-the-world-s-oldest-dog">the Guinness World Records awarded him his title early in 2023</a>.</p> <p dir="ltr">The family had seen a lot of journalists come their way - as well as people from all across the globe - in search of pictures with Bobi, Leonel explained. </p> <p dir="ltr">“They’ve come from all over Europe,” he noted, “as well as the USA and even Japan.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Despite the packed schedule, Leonel added that Bobi’s health had been good, and that Bobi had been for a check-up in the wake of all of the attention and the stress that came along with it, with Leonel concerned about his friend’s mental and physical health. </p> <p dir="ltr">“There were a lot of pictures taken and he had to get up and down many times. It wasn’t easy for him,” he said. “His health was a little damaged, but now it’s better.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Leonel actually credits Bobi’s “calm, peaceful environment” for his longevity, though he went on to add that Bobi is finding it more difficult to walk as the years go by - something that can’t have come easy after his decades roaming the forests around their home. </p> <p dir="ltr">But according to Leonel, he’s still a happy dog, even if a good portion of his time is spent enjoying the benefits of a good sleep, especially after he’s eaten or if the fire is on during a cold day.</p> <p dir="ltr">And for Leonel, who has been experiencing life with Bobi at his side since he was just eight years old, Bobi means the world: past, present, and future. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Bobi is special because looking at him is like remembering the people who were part of our family and unfortunately are no longer here,” he said, “like my father, my brother, or my grandparents who have already left this world.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Bobi represents those generations.”</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Guinness World Records</em></p>
