Ellen DeGeneres reveals triple health diagnosis

Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that she has been diagnosed with osteoporosis, OCD and ADHD.

The American comedian spoke candidly about her health in her latest Netflix special, For Your Approval, which marks her comeback after receiving backlash over toxic workplace allegations.

DeGeneres revealed that she only received the diagnosis after she left her long-running daytime talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres show.

The star learned she has “full on osteoporosis” - a disease that causes bones to become weak and more susceptible to fractures - after she took a “stupid bone density test.”

“I don’t even know how I’m standing up right now,” DeGeneres said.

“I’m like a human sandcastle. I could disintegrate in the shower.”

Not only does she have osteoporosis, she said she was also diagnosed with arthritis.

“I had excruciating pain one day and I thought I tore a ligament or something and I got an MRI and they said, ‘No, it’s just arthritis.’ I said, ‘How did I get that?’ And he said, ‘Oh it just happens at your age,’” she recalled.

She also explained that after the backlash and "hatred" she received from fans following claims that she created a work environment that bred "racism, fear and intimidation", she started going to therapy as it took a toll on her mental health.

That was when she learned she had OCD and ADHD.

“I was in therapy for a while trying to deal with all the hatred that was coming at me,” she shared. “And you know, it was not a common situation for a therapist to deal with.”

She continued, “I may have OCD because a therapist said so and I said, ‘Yes I am very organised,’ because I thought that was the O. I didn’t know what OCD was.”

“I was raised in a religion, Christian Science, that doesn’t acknowledge diseases or disorders,” she explained. “So when I was growing up, nobody talked about anything. There was no discussion of anything.”

Despite the circumstances, DeGeneres tried to lighten the mood saying: “My ADD makes it really hard to sit down and focus on anything at all.

"I mean, do you know how hard it was for me to put this together? Of course you don’t. Why would I ask that question? It’s hard for me to focus,” she told a laughing crowd.

“So, I have ADD, I have OCD, I’m losing my memory. But I think I’m well-adjusted, because I obsess on things, but then I don’t have the attention span to stick with it, and I quickly forget what I was obsessing about in the first place. So, it takes me all the way around to being well adjusted, I think.”

She also revealed her thoughts on getting cancelled, telling the audience: “We have all these unwritten rules based on gender about acceptable behaviour. If we don’t follow those rules, it makes people uncomfortable. And if people are uncomfortable, there are consequences.”

But regardless, she said it all worked out for the better.

“I’m happy not being a boss or a brand or a billboard, just a person."

Images: Instagram

Huge names on board to overturn Hamish and Andy’s Olympic Village ban

Hamish and Andy's lifetime ban from entering the Olympic village could soon be overturned, as high profile supporters sign a petition for their return.

Just last week the duo made headlines around the country when Andy revealed that he and Hamish copped the ban from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 2012, after they broke security protocols at the London Games.

The boys, who were invited to the event, could not get into the Olympic village due to a clerical error, so they decided to sneak in with the help of an Aussie who helped them get in through someone else's pass.

After telling the hilarious story on air, Triple M's Rush Hour have launched a petition called: “We Urge the IOC to Revoke Hamish and Andy’s Olympic Ban.”

Several high profile individuals have since signed the petition including Mark Geyer, Grant Hackett, Tom Rockliffe and Wil Anderson.

And now, Queensland premier Steven Miles has also jumped on board.

“This does sound like a real injustice to me,” he said on the show on Thursday.

“I’ve been hearing about your campaign and I’ve signed the petition.”

He also said that he would do whatever he can to convince the IOC to have the ban overturned by the time Brisbane hosts the Olympics in 2032.

“I’ll do whatever I can to try to convince the IOC to make changes, and obviously come 2032, we’ll have some say in the arrangements then too,” he said.

“Hamish and Andy, they’ve served their time, and it’s time to let them back in.”

Image: Triple M

"My days are numbered": Rod Stewart reveals candid thoughts on death

Sir Rod Stewart is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, and he's well aware he can't live forever.

As he nears 80-years-old, the music legend shared his views on death, and how he knows his "days are numbered", but that won't stop him from toning down his rock 'n' roll lifestyle as he kicks off his last run of Las Vegas shows after 13 years of residency.

"I'm aware my days are numbered but I've got no fear," he told The Sun.

"We have all got to pass on at some point, so we are all in the same basket.

"I am going to be enjoying myself for these last few years as much as I can. I say few — probably another 15. I can do that easy mate, easy," he added.

He then admitted: "I'm not like I was in the '70s and '80s and I can't stay up all night, get drunk and go mad and still have a voice just like that. Nowadays I have to protect my voice before and after every show."

The singer said he counts on staying hydrated to keep up with his performance demands as he got older, but he definitely has not vowed off the booze.

"You're talking to Rod Stewart here, mate. We go mad after every show. There are 13 of us, six women, really great musicians and I make them drink. We absolutely love it," he said.

Despite keeping up his party ways, the rock star is also very conscious of his health, after he revealed that he had experienced a private three-year battle with prostate cancer in 2019.

"I am more aware of my health now than before. You should be when you start getting on a bit. It's very important," he said.

The rock star said he works out three or four times a day with his personal trainer of three years who has been keeping him in check for over three decades.

Images: Kiko Huesca/EPA-EFE/ Shutterstock Editorial

Real reason why Paul Burt was sacked

A senior source from Channel Seven has revealed the real reason why Paul Burt was sacked, just days after he unleashed at his former employer live on-air.

An insider at the network reportedly told the Daily Mail that Burt, who worked at Seven for more than a decade, was sacked because focus group research found he was unpopular with audiences.

"Paul Burt was sacked after extensive audience research across the Queensland market that identified he was one of the least-liked presenters on-air, with the dreaded 'switch-off' factor," the source said.

The research had been conducted in the first quarter of 2024.

The source also told the Daily Mail that perceived audience appeal was an important consideration when deciding who would be let go from the program and "it's not like names were picked out of a hat."

"Networks spend a fortune on polling and focus groups to identify emerging talent and test long-serving presenters," they said.

"The audience decides who reads the news."

Burt did not accept the research, telling the Daily Mail: "I mean, these people are going to try and cover their backs."

"I think if they're looking at numbers like that, they might want to change the people who are giving them those numbers.

"Because I'm on the ground, I hear what people say and I understand what they want. I've been doing it now for 28 years."

Daily Mail also obtained a farewell email that Burt sent to his colleagues at the network on Monday afternoon.

"Hey everyone, never thought I'd be writing this email anytime soon, but here we go," the email reportedly began.

"First and foremost, I want to say thank you to everyone who I have worked directly with, you have all been incredibly awesome and do sensational jobs and deserve far more recognition than you get.

"Secondly, those who reached out to me after the news over the weekend and today to 'check in' on me and pass on your kind words, wow, it's been very humbling so thank you."

Burt also reportedly did not attend his farewell last Friday and had told management he would not be attending it.

"I'm not that kind of guy," he told the Daily Mail.

"I don't want there to be any hoo-ha. I don't need a cake. I'm not interested."

He also said that he did not wanted to cut into his work schedule on a busy Friday evening when he did about 10 live crosses to the newsroom.

"I don't want to give up my time to get back to the office when I'm on location," he said.

"I didn't want to stand there and get, 'Here's a cake, congratulations, goodbye and thank you for your time'. I never asked for it."

He also said: "Don't get me wrong, I really admire the network. I love the network. I truly do.

"Unfortunately, I just think at this point in time, things could have been handled a bit differently in certain sectors of the newsroom.

"If you have three of your best-selling items in a shop, do you get rid of those three and just deal with what's left over? As a business person, I don't think you do."

Seven West Media, which also owns the West Australian, is slashing 150 editorial staff in a round of redundancies, which has affected other big names like newsreader Sharyn Ghidella.

Images: Seven

Sam Neill reveals his pillar of strength during cancer battle

Anyone facing a major health battle will always cherish the support they receive from loved ones during tough times, and Sam Neill couldn't be more grateful for his support system.

In 2022, the Jurassic Park star was diagnosed with stage-three blood cancer and had to undergo treatment.

Fortunately, he is still in remission, and during a recent interview on the Big Talk Show podcast, he told host Jess Rowe that it was fellow actor and friend Bryan Brown who was a pillar of strength for him during his health battle.

"I would be completely lost without friends and old friends are even more precious because they have been through the tough times," Neill said.

“I had a spell in hospital and Bryan came in every day. Every day. I thought: ‘That’s a real friend’.

“He didn’t have anything to say, but he came in and kept me company.”

He added that despite the pair having very little in common, their friendship has lasted for more than 40 years.

"Bryan and I have been friends since 1980, I think it is," he said.

“I love him dearly, he’s a great family man [and] immensely loyal,” he added.

Sam found out he had stage-three blood cancer in 2022 during his first trip back to New Zealand following the Covid lockdowns, that made it almost impossible for him to see his family.

He had to undergo chemotherapy for three or four months, which he said was "brutal".

In another interview with Today, he also credited his work for keeping him busy and helping him survive his battle with cancer.

"I like working and when I was diagnosed, I didn't have any work to do, so I wrote a book and that saved my life because I was pretty down and I got up in the morning and I would write and write and write and that was good fun," he said at the time.

Image: Susanna Saez/EPA-EFE/ Shutterstock Editorial

Bruce Springsteen is officially a billionaire

Bruce Springsteen has officially become a billionaire.

Financial magazine Forbes announced his achievement, with the 74-year-old's fortune at an estimated $US 1.1 billion (approx. $1.7 billion), with the outlet emphasising that they were just "conservatively estimating".

The rock star had a six-decade long career, with over 140 million albums sold worldwide, an autobiography, Born to Run, and a sold-out Broadway show called Springsteen on Broadway, as a few of the factors that helped him become a billionaire.

But of course, the biggest reason would be due to selling his entire music catalogue — featuring hits such as Dancing in the Dark, Brilliant Disguise and Streets of Philadelphia — to Sony in 2021 for $US 500 million (approx. $748 million).

In 2023, his world tour raked in $US380 million ($569 million), according to Pollstar, and he is still touring to this day, having recently been in Stockholm for the European leg of his tour, Springsteen and E Street Band.

Springsteen also dabbles in real estate, with two lavish properties in Wellington, Florida and a residence in Beverly Hills he bought in 2010, which is now estimated at $US15 million ($22 million).

The rock star has certainly come a long way from his humble beginnings as a bartender at the Stone Pony club in Asbury Park, New Jersey.

“I wasn’t much of a bartender, but I’d serve up the beers and just have fun with the fans, and just enjoy myself,” Springsteen said in his new book I Don’t Want to Go Home: The Oral History of the Stone Pony.

“[My signature] was beer. With a Jack Daniel’s on the side, maybe.”

No matter how much money he has earned, Springsteen stays true to his roots as the boy from New Jersey, and just last year he was spotted at a cheap diner, Roberto’s Freehold Grill, in his home town.

“I just still like it here,” he told Variety in 2017.

“I think Jersey Shore is a great place to live … I’m still a beach bum so I’ll swim until November. It’s just still a place that we love, man.”

Image: JUANJO MARTIN/EPA-EFE/ Shutterstock Editorial
