Kyle Sandilands throws drink at Ben Fordham live on-air

Kyle Sandilands and Ben Fordham have clashed during a live interview.

The radio rivals joined John Laws' on his 2SM show on Wednesday, for one of Laws' final shows before he retires when things got heated.

The trio had been chatting about various topics for 15 minutes when the conversation turned to the US election.

After Sandilands gave his opinion on Trump's strong performance, Fordham sarcastically responded with: “Of all the experts on American politics, what an honour for John Laws to have Kyle Sandilands commenting on it this morning.”

The comment sparked an immediate reaction from the KIIS FM host, who retaliated with: “I’ll throw this water in your face, b***h."

"I don’t care who you think you are.”

“Well go on, do it!” Fordham challenged him.

The 2GB host pushed him over the edge when he said: “You talk tough to the paparazzi …” and was cut off when Sandilands threw a tall glass of water over his face and chest.

“Oh my lord!” a shocked Fordham said.

“There you go,” Sandilands told him. “Don’t push a Brisbane boy.”

Laws seemed rather amused by the chaos, and as Fordham tried to dry himself off, he took another cheeky dig at Sandilands.

“Kyle’s wet too, but that’s perspiration,” he said.

The interview went on for another 15 minutes and towards the end of the chat Laws apologised to Fordham saying: “I’m sorry you’re wet."

“I bet you’ve never said that before,” quipped Sandilands.

To make matters worse for Fordham, the NSW premier, Chris Minns was waiting just outside the studio doors.

“I’ve got all this water all over me, it looks like I’ve wet myself, and now I’m going to go outside and there are VIPs out there,” Fordham said.

“Embarrassing.”

On Thursday morning, the KIIS FM radio host reflected on the on-air clash, claiming that he was the one who invited Fordham to appear with him on Laws' radio show.

“I shouldn’t have invited him, I’ll never invite him anywhere again,” he said.

“He just carried on like a carnival person,” Sandilands continued. “He kept yelling and he kept interfering.”

In response, Fordham reportedly told news.com.au, “Kyle knows he’s boring on his own. That’s why he roped me in to join him.”

Images: 2SM/ news.com.au

Former The Voice contestant wins Melbourne Cup

A former The Voice contestant has won the Melbourne Cup.

Two years ago, Robbie Dolan, who was in Rita Ora's team, placed in the top 24 of The Voice Australia, and now he has celebrated an even bigger win after taking home the Melbourne Cup.

Dolan, who was born in Ireland and is a keen jockey, first moved to Australia in 2016 when he was still figuring out his career path.

“I came here eight years ago with an ambition of just having a crack,” the 28-year-old told the Today show on Wednesday morning.

“Really just having a go, working hard and seeing what happens – and I’m sitting here with the Melbourne Cup.”

While he had little luck on the reality TV show as he got eliminated in the sing-offs, his horse racing career has been more fruitful.

Dolan started his career at the age of 17 in Ireland, where he participated in a nine-month training program and worked as an apprentice for about three seasons before trying his luck in Australia.

Both his father and grandfather were successful riders in Ireland and it seems that racing is in his blood, after he and his five-year-old gelding Knight’s Choice pushed past Zardozi and nudged Warp Speed out of the winning spot 20m before the finish line.

While he has celebrated the big win, the jockey remains humble as he revealed the key to winning the Cup was "a lot of luck".

“You know, I just needed the runs to open in front of me, and thankfully they did," he said on the Today show.

Plus, it helps when you've got a “good little horse” like Knight’s Choice. “He’s an underrated little horse and proved a lot of people wrong yesterday.”

As for his singing career Dolan may need to give it a rest for the time being, saying: “My voice is half gone from last night."

Images: Instagram

Seven star names and shames worst celeb interviews

A former Channel Seven showbiz reporter has named and shamed the worst celebrities he's interviewed.

Nelson Aspen, 61, who as an entertainment correspondent for Sunrise for two decades opened up on his worst celebrity encounters fellow showbiz reporter Kjersti Flaa on her YouTube show.

Flaa who is known for revealing her own "nightmare" celebrity encounter with Blake Lively, prompted Aspen to share his own experience with the Gossip Girl actress.

Aspen said that his first interview with Lively in 2016 was “fun and playful” and he was "gobsmacked" by her beauty. But he had a very different experience just two years later when he interviewed her and Anna Kendrick for A Simple Favor.

“I’m figuring, ‘Oh this is going to be fun.’ I’d interviewed Anna before and she’s fine, but Blake? She’s going to be be a hoot, I can’t wait,” Aspen recalled.

“They were paired together, and I think that may have had something to do with it. She [Lively] could’ve been having a bad day, maybe they didn’t get along, maybe it was competition, maybe it was two egos trapped in the same room, maybe Blake is just better one-on-one … I don’t know, but she answered every question with a question, combatively.

“It was not pleasant, and Anna sort of did the same. It’s like she was like, ‘OK this is girl power, we’re going to be team up on the journalist.’

“And in your interview with Blake, I recognised it, this is a trait, obviously a recurring one,” he told Flaa.

“Thanks to you, everybody’s warned.”

He then revealed that one of his most uncomfortable chats was with Oscar-winning actor Robert De Niro, and prior to his interview, a publicist warned him that De Niro "won't look you in the eyes".

That was exactly what happened when he interviewed the actor.

“The camera that was on me was off to a weird angle so that Robert never had to look me in the face,” Aspen recalled.

“He looked off camera, but when we cut it together it looked as if he was looking at me.

“They went to so much trouble to avoid him having to look at the journalist.”

Another A-lister he interviewed was Marvel star Paul Rudd, considered to be one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, but Aspen said it wasn't always the case.

“He’s usually very sweet, but it was his birthday, and that’s when everybody was talking about ‘ageless Paul Rudd’,” Aspen said.

“They [publicists] said, ‘Don’t ask him about his youthful appearance, and don’t say Happy Birthday.’ I was like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’

“Yes it was coming from the publicist, but he must have said, ‘I don’t want to talk about my birthday’.”

"I can’t remember exactly how it went down, but whatever it was they were very sensitive about it, and it was very uncomfortable and awkward, and nobody says that about Paul Rudd.

“But it happens, they’re people too.”

However, his interviews weren't all bad, with Hugh Jackman known as one of the kindest stars in Hollywood.

“I’ve interviewed him a thousand times. He’s the best,” Aspen said.

Meryl Streep and Julie Andrews were also among Aspen’s favourites.

Image: Youtube

Sam Armytage has revealed the reason why she left the Seven Network after more than 20 years of working with them.

In a candid interview with 2GB's Ben Fordham, the journalist revealed why she left the network shortly after hosting Farmer Wants A Wife.

“Look, I just had enough,” she said on Friday morning.

“I’ve done it for a long time — you know what those hours are like, it is quite gruelling.”

Armytage, who was also a presenter for the network's morning show, Sunrise, said she “used to get a lot of attention” from the show and it became "pretty full on".

“I just needed a break,” she said.

“The time was right and life had changed. I just got married, my mum had died, everything had changed and I knew the time was right.

“I’d had enough, and you know I like a good horse metaphor — I’d ridden it to the top, I’d done all I could do and it was good time to step out.”

The beloved presenter is not leaving the small screen anytime soon, as she is now set to host Nine's new TV show The Golden Bachelor.

“This is a fresh start for me after 21 years at the old network, here I am … This new show is going to be great fun,” she said on the radio show.

While talking about the show, she said that she has a lot of faith in its potential, saying: “It’s going to be really great fun, it’s going to be hilarious, but I also think we’ve got some space for some really poignant stories here because we are looking for people in their 50s and 60s, maybe even into their 70s who have loved before and want to love again.”

Images: Instagram

Hunt for Australia's first Golden Bachelor begins

While former Sunrise host Samantha Armytage has been confirmed to host Nine's new reality series The Golden Bachelor, there are still a few major roles to fill.

The bachelor and all the women needed for the series are yet to be found, but one well-known businessman is believed to be a leading contender for the show.

“We are looking for Australia’s first Golden Bachelor and many incredible women who want to find love again,” read the official casting website.

Nine are looking for people aged between 60 and 75 years old who are “looking for the last great love” of their life, live in Australia and are single.

“Do you know someone in their golden years who deserves one more shot at their happily ever after?” the casting notice read.

According to TV Blackbox expert Steve Molk, “Mark Bouris is being touted as their guy.”

Bouris, 68, is a podcaster for Straight Talk and a former host of Nine's The Celebrity Apprentice.

Molk added that it's not uncommon for a network to create buzz with the announcement “in the hope it will help shake the trees for prospective applicants to flock and submit their audition”.

Although Nine has yet to confirm their broadcast date, Molk believes that it's likely to air mid next year.

“This gives them time to cast and film while still showing partners why they would want to drop their cash with Nine."

Armytage said the Australian version of the show has “got a different spin”.

“This is for people who are looking for love again, who’ve got some miles on their tyres and are ready to fall in love again,” she told Nine's Today on October 29.

“These are people with life experience. There’s going to be some great stories here, some kind of sad stories in some.

“We’re looking for a happy fairytale ending.”

Image: Nine

Babyfaced Sam Armytage unrecognisable in resurfaced clip

Aussie TV presenter Sam Armytage appears unrecognisable in a resurfaced clip.

A video has emerged of a baby-faced Armytage early on in her media career, presenting for news for WIN in Canberra in the '90s.

Armytage appeared on the Today show on Monday morning to discuss the launch of Nine's new reality series The Golden Bachelor, which she will host.

It didn't take long before Today host Karl Stefanovic teased her with a throwback video.

“You were part of the Nine family going way back to the early ’60s, have a look at this,” Stefanovic joked.

Today co-host Sarah Abo and Armytage laughed as footage of a younger Armytage appeared onscreen wearing a white blazer and rocking a bob cut.

Abo told Armytage “you haven’t changed at all!”

“Oh darling, thank you. Listen to that little high-pitched voice — I was a baby,” Armytage replied.

Armytage's new stint comes just months after she left the Seven Network, where she was previously the host for another reality TV show, Farmer Wants A Wife.

The show will air in 2025, with Armytage explaining that it is a similar show to The Bachelor that Aussies love but with a focus on those in their 50s and 60s.

“This is bringing it forward to the golden ages, as we like to call it. We’re all heading towards some of this faster than others,” Armytage joked before announcing that they're currently casting.

“What we’re looking for here is a Golden Bachelor, most likely in his 60s, and some ladies who will be in their 50s or 60s … because we’re casting now.

“This is for people who are looking for love again, so people who’ve got some miles on their tyres who are ready to fall in love again.”

She said there would be some “great stories” along with some “kind of sad” ones; however, the aim is for a “happy fairytale ending”.

Stefanovic then joked that it was a shame Richard Wilkins was “off the market” before adding he was shocked people over the age of 50 were “so active”.

“It’s shocking. I just feel like it’s like a lot to look at on the TV,” Stefanovic said, admitting that he'd watched the US version of the show that debuted last year.

“I just find some of it confronting in a physical way.”

Abo and Armytage were quick to cut off Stefanovic's train of thought before it went down “a path perhaps that we don’t want it to go down”.

“I know what you’re talking about, but I don’t think it’s confronting. I think it’s lovely,” Armytage said.

“I think that it’s life. It is. And there’s a huge percentage of the population in this age bracket who are active and looking for love.”

Images: Today

"You are incredible": The Voice 2024 winner revealed

In a thrilling conclusion to The Voice's 13th season, Reuben de Melo from Team LeAnn emerged as the winner after the public votes wrapped up on Sunday night.

The finale saw Annie Jones, Skÿe, Reuben and Jaedyn Randell each perform a duet with their coach and then a solo number.

Reuben sang a stirring rendition of the Coldplay ballad Fix You with his coach. He then performed House of the Rising Sun by The Animals, a rendition which his coach described as "insane".

The FIFO worker and father of three has previously said that winning The Voice and taking home the 100k grand prize would allow him to get out of the minds and spend more time with his family.

“I never thought I’d get this far, this is crazy," Reuben said of his win, which also comes with a music masterclass and industry recording development package.

“I’m so proud," LeAnn said. "You deserve every bit of this moment and I’m so honoured that I could be on this journey with you. You are incredible."

LeAnne also explained why she'd taken to Reuben since his first blind audition, even using her "Ultimate Block" tool to stop the other coaches from snagging him for their teams.

“I knew as soon as he opened his mouth, and I heard him sing. There was just so much feeling there. There was no way I was letting any of the other coaches get to him before I did,” she said.

Earlier in the night, Skÿe from Team Guy, who was another strong contender, hit the stage with the Goo Goo Dolls' iconic song Iris and then sang Against All Odds by Phil Collins as his duet with Guy Sebastian.

Annie Jones sang Youngblood by 5SOS as her solo and Barracuda by Heart for her duet with Adam Lambert, while Jaedyn performed Empire of the Sun's Walking on a Dream as a duet with Kate-Miller Heidke and then Snow Angel by Renee Rapp.

Image: Seven

Nova radio star breaks down in heartwarming interview with Kate Winslet

Kate Winslet shared a heartwarming moment live on-air with Kate Ritchie on Nova radio on Wednesday morning.

The Hollywood star appeared on Fitzy and Wippa with Kate Ritchie to promote her new movie, Lee, where Ritchie brought up the star's powerful comments about the scrutiny women in the public eye face.

“I have to say to, I just want to thank you for the conversations that you have about body image," Ritchie said.

“What we do have in common is that we somewhat grew up in the public eye; I grew up on a television show," the former Home and Away actress added.

She then praised Winslet for continually speaking out about “women and young girls, growing up and having people comment about us and pass judgement and feel as though its OK to say certain things. I think we’ve always known that it's not OK."

“But it’s been really hard conversation to have and it’s hard to sometimes stand up and say ‘This does not make me feel good’ and ‘it’s not OK for someone to speak that way’, and someone of your calibre, I hope you know the value of you having these conversations. Because it makes me, and I’m sure millions of other women …” she said while tearing up.

“Oh she’s unravelling in here!” Winslet said in attempt to lighten the mood, as she shared a smile in agreement.

“That’s really very kind,” said Winslet. “I think women are getting better at standing up for each other as well as standing up for ourselves.”

Winslet has been very vocal about women standing up for themselves and has led by example, revealing in another interview that she was forced to defend herself to a crew member while filming the movie.

“There’s a bit where Lee’s sitting on a bench in a bikini and one of the crew came up between takes and said: ‘You might want to sit up straighter.’ So you can’t see my belly rolls? Not on your life! It was deliberate, you know?” she told Harper's Bazaar UK.

Images: Nova

Radio legend calls it quits

Gus Worland has announced his departure from Triple M after 16 years with the network.

The radio legend shared the news during The Rush Hour show he co-hosts with Jude Bolton each weekday afternoon on 104.9 in Sydney.

"After 16 years, starting back in 2009, I'm leaving Triple M," he said on the show.

He revealed that he would be focusing on his foundation Gotcha4Life, dedicated to teaching Aussies how to manage their mental health, with their Mental Fitness Gym program being rolled out in schools around the country.

"I've decided to focus 100 per cent on Gotcha4Life which, of course, you blokes have been a part of and the station has been very supportive of me being away and doing that work.

"I just feel it's right. It's at the stage now where it really needs critical leadership and critical energy ... just the passion, so forth, that goes behind Gotcha4Life."

In an interview with 9Honey, he revealed that moving on from the show will be difficult.

"Especially when you've done it for more than a few years, you know what I mean? I feel like we've been through the trenches a bit together," he said.

He also spoke about how his gig on Triple M has helped him cope with the intensity of the work he is doing for his foundation.

"To give me the balance of fun and being able to come in here after horrific stories, and then to see everyone and have a laugh and have a cuddle and eat too much sugar," he said.

"I've needed that. I don't know how well I'll go without it, to be honest with you."

But despite the uncertainty, Worland said he felt it was "the right call."

"It's going to take me probably, you know, a few months or maybe a year to work out whether or not I can just do that job without the balance of media, but I'll still do my Wide World of Sports on Channel 9 and I'll do my Weekend Today on Channel 9," he said.

While he has been getting offers from other media organisations, he said that the majority of his energy will be focused on his foundation.

"I've got to be strong in my convictions," he said.

"Gotcha needs me every day, fully focused."

He hopes that one day mental fitness will be a subject in schools.

"We've just started a primary schools program and I want to really focus in on the little ones and making sure that they're learning that it's okay to show their emotions at a young age when a lot of us have our emotions turned off," he said.

"And I will continue to speak to every pollie [politician] and tell me what's a more important subject than mental fitness."

Worland will stay on the show until the end of the year, ahead of his replacement being announced.

Images: Triple M/ The Rush Hour/ Instagram

"People are losing faith": Nat Barr takes aim at Albanese government

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has defended his record on economic management as the Labor party's primary vote continues to slip in the polls against Peter Dutton ahead of next year's election.

This week's Newspoll shows that Labor's primary vote has slumped to 31 per cent, the lowest it has been since the 2022 election, while the Coalition remains steady at 38 per cent.

On Thursday, Sunrise host Nat Barr told the Prime Minister that while on her way to the studio she had spoken to a Labor-voting taxi driver who said he was "losing faith" in Albanese's leadership, as things were "too expensive".

“This is your biggest problem, people like this cabby are losing faith. How do you respond to that?” Barr asked Albanese.

Albanese defended his choices by pointing out that ABS figures released on Wednesday showed annual inflation rates at 2.7 per cent in August, down from 3.5 per cent in July, and the lowest it has been since August 2021.

“Cost-of-living pressures are real, but that’s why we have engaged with responsible economic management in order to bring inflation down whilst we have been delivering cost-of-living relief,” he said.

“Yesterday’s figures show the headline inflation is down from 3.5 to 2.7 (per cent), it is a good outcome.

“There’s more work to be done, but we’ve done that whilst we have delivered a tax cut for that cabby who would have got nothing under the previous scheme.”

Albanese added that energy bill relief, cheaper childcare, and fee-free TAFE places were also making a difference to cost-of-living pressures.

However, Barr hit back and said that the cost-of-living measures such as the energy rebate were “artificial” as the rebate would end.

“The RBA has said, this does not mean that inflation is under control. The power rebate is going to end and that’s keeping it at one level at the moment, that’s why they look at underlying inflation — they take out volatile stuff,” Barr said.

“So, what do you say about inflation still being at this level?” she asked.

“What I say is if you exclude volatile, the figures released yesterday, which are known as month-by-month, but they’re year-to-year … that figure is down from 3.7 down to 3 (per cent). That’s a remarkable drop,” Albanese responded.

“The Reserve Bank Australia’s target band is 2 to 3 (per cent). Every single one of the figures yesterday that were released, whether it was headline, excluding volatile, mean, all of them saw significant drops in inflation.

“Inflation is half what we inherited and one-third of where it peaked …That is in part because of the back-to-back budget surpluses that we have delivered that in part is, yes, energy bill relief, but also what we’ve done in cheaper childcare, fee-free TAFE, the deliberate policy design to help people whilst putting that downward pressure on inflation,” he said.

Image: Sunrise

Small changes can make a big impact. I was a green novice at the start of this mission, so if I can do it, anyone can.”

Their two kids, three-year-old daughter Beau and 18-month-old son Nash, will also make appearances on the show.

Growing Home aims to show an honest depiction of the struggles and accomplishments of building in the Northern Beaches, while educating on sustainability and what a greener future for Australia could look like.

While no exact date has been released for the show, it is set to air soon on Channel 7 and 7Plus.

You can watch a teaser for the show here.

Images: Instagram/ Growing Home with Jamie Durie
