A KFC employee shares secrets behind the herbs and spices recipe

<p dir="ltr">KFC lures in millions of customers per week worldwide, with most people flocking to the fast food chain for the world-famous fried chicken.</p> <p dir="ltr">A popular TV program in the UK called Secrets of the Fast Food Giants has lifted the lid on secrets behind the famous breadcrumb coating that gives KFC’s chicken its famous and distinctive taste. </p> <p dir="ltr">KFC worker Jo said the chain is fiercely protective of the flavouring and only a handful of people know the full recipe.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s kept in a vault in Kentucky,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Across KFC, only two or three people actually know the exact recipe.”</p> <p dir="ltr">“We have two different spice blenders so one factory does half of the blend, and then another does the second half and then packs it.”</p> <p dir="ltr">“So actually not one factory knows the complete recipe.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Jo also shared how the KFC buckets are made of a whole chicken cut into nine pieces.</p> <p dir="ltr">“That allows us to have the perfect ratio of our breading to chicken,” she explained.</p> <p dir="ltr">Meanwhile, popcorn chicken is made from chicken breast and coated in a light seasoning.</p> <p dir="ltr">Additionally, a million and a half pots of gravy are sold at KFC a week, and some diehard fans even put it away for Christmas Day.</p> <p dir="ltr">“This is an original recipe that has come from the fryers, we drain it overnight and then it goes into making our gravy,” according to the KFC employee. </p> <p dir="ltr">“It’s literally as you’d make gravy at home with those meat juices.”</p> <p><span id="docs-internal-guid-c439daf5-7fff-6ade-a7d0-68d56c9b05ff"></span></p> <p dir="ltr">KFC was founded in 1954 and has 24,000 outlets globally.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Shutterstock</em></p>

Bear breaks into people’s home to steal their KFC

<p dir="ltr">A man in California was in for quite a surprise when he arrived home to a bear in his kitchen. Not just that, but the bear was helping itself to his KFC!</p> <p dir="ltr">Sierra Madre resident John Holden found the bear in his kitchen, and said there was at least one other bear in the house and a third outside. He told ABC7, "I've had a lot of other encounters with them. I've actually had them bump into me a couple times in the backyard, but definitely never in the house like that.”</p> <p><iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WdMEWlEmESo" title="YouTube video player" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen=""></iframe></p> <p dir="ltr">He said that the bears made a mess of his house, and he finally got them to leave by making loud noises. Despite that, they simply retreated to his backyard, lazing around after what was obviously a filling meal.</p> <p dir="ltr">The Californian city of Sierra Madre is in Los Angeles County, in the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley, below the southern edge of the Angeles National Forest. What that means is that bear sightings aren’t particularly uncommon, although catching them eating KFC certainly remains a rare occurrence.</p> <p dir="ltr"><a rel="noopener" href="https://abc7.com/bear-san-dimas-school-lockdown/11173375/" target="_blank">Just last week</a>, a bear wandered around the grounds of an elementary school in San Dimas, before making itself comfortable in a tree at a nearby home. That bear was tranquilised, caught, and released into the wild. A cub was also spotted near the elementary school, but its whereabouts are unknown. Wildlife officials believe the adult was a mother bear looking for the cub.</p> <p dir="ltr">Black bears are the only species of bear native to California, but they come in a number of colours, ranging from solid black to shades of brown. The last California grizzly bear, the bear found on the Californian state flag, was seen in 1924.</p>

University students jailed after finding KFC loophole

<p>A group of Chinese university students have been sentenced to up to two and a half years in jail after they found a loophole to receive AUD $40,000 worth of KFC.</p> <p>The university students from east China’s Jiangsu Province scammed KFC through their mobile apps,<span> </span><a rel="noopener" href="https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202105/1223171.shtml" target="_blank">the<span> </span><em>Global Times</em><span> </span>reports.</a></p> <p>The group obtained free KFC meals and made profits by reselling it.</p> <p>In total, the fast food giant had economic losses equating to 200,000 yuan ($40,000).</p> <p>One student discovered that through his WeChat account, he could get meals and coupons without fronting up the money.</p> <p>The young person would sell coupons as well as meals to make a profit.</p> <p>He would also order meals for himself.</p> <p>In the time period between April and October 2018, his dealings led for the company to lose over 58,000 yuan ($11,000).</p> <p>The other students that were part of the elaborate scam had losses that ranged from 8,900 yuan ($1700) to 47,000 yuan ($9400) each.</p> <p>The court ruled the main instigator, whose last name is Xu, would be given a two-and-a-half-year jail sentence, along with a 6000 yuan ($1200) fine.</p> <p>They were charged for “crimes of fraud and imparting criminal methods”.</p> <p>The other four scammers were sentenced from 15 months to two years in jail.</p> <p>They were also fined between 1000 yuan ($200) and 4000 yuan ($800).</p>

Michelin impossible: Why this outback KFC restaurant is chasing the highest food honour

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A KFC restaurant in Alice Springs, Northern Territory is pushing for one of the highest international dining honours available: A Michelin Star.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sam Edelman, who owns the Alice Springs KFC, told </span><a href="https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/bangkok-thailand-30-mg-price-2018-1044552979?src=mTnFWWy_AkbDyqiK7wAn_w-1-2&amp;studio=1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Yahoo News Australia</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> he runs the “most remote KFC in the world” and meets the criteria for the star.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;"> “My store serves people who travel from 500 to 1000km away,” Mr Edelman said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“That’s part of the criteria - the food is worth a detour, worth a journey to enjoy.”</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Edelman came up with the idea after watching a documentary on Netflix.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In order to get a Michelin star, the restaurant has to use quality products, have a “mastery of flavour and cooking techniques”, the chefs must have personality, it should be value for money and the food has to be consistent.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, the guide for the star has been met with criticism as people think it’s biased towards French cuisine and technique.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2016, it awarded a star to a cheap Singapore street food outlet known for a braised chicken dish in a welcome break from tradition.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Edelman is hoping to get the attention of the Michelin judges to a variety of quality restaurants across Australia.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It’s a bit of Michelin: Impossible, but let’s make it possible,” he said.</span></p> <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“As I say to my staff sometimes, ‘bucket, why not?’”</span></p>

Melbourne man finds something crawling in his KFC

<p>A Melbourne man has found something disgusting crawling in his KFC, after buying a box of chicken from the fast food restaurant for a baby shower on Saturday.</p> <p>The customer was disgusted when, after everyone had finished their meals at the party, one of the children <a href="http://www.oversixty.com.au/lifestyle/food-wine/2017/10/nsw-woman-finds-something-in-her-nandos-meal-that-will-make-you-sick-to-the-stomach/" target="_blank"><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>noticed maggots crawling on his piece of chicken</strong></span></a>.</p> <p>“It was the last piece of chicken,” the 34-year-old said.</p> <p>“Everyone was disgusted because we'd all eaten from the same chicken. KFC works closely with leading Australian forensic entomologists to understand flies to ensure our in-store cooking and food handling practices are robust so we can keep our food safe,” they said.</p> <p>“Their latest studies show that flies only deposit eggs in food with temperatures between 10 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius. We hold our raw chicken below these temperatures and our cooked chicken well above so again, it's unlikely this situation happened in-store. We are trying to make contact with the customer so that we can investigate further.”</p> <p>One things for sure, maggots certainly weren’t in the Colonel’s original recipe. Deep-fried chicken

<p>Put a delicious spin on your chicken with this tasty recipe for deep-friend chicken. </p> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Ingredients:</span></strong></p> <ul> <li>1 large egg, beaten</li> <li>1 cup buttermilk</li> <li>One 3-pound chicken, cut into 6 pieces</li> <li>1 cup all-purpose flour</li> <li>1 teaspoon ground oregano</li> <li>1 teaspoon chili powder</li> <li>1 teaspoon dried sage</li> <li>1 teaspoon dried basil</li> <li>1 teaspoon dried marjoram</li> <li>1 teaspoon pepper</li> <li>2 teaspoons salt</li> <li>2 tablespoons paprika</li> <li>1 tablespoon onion salt</li> <li>1 teaspoon garlic powder</li> <li>2 tablespoons Accent (MSG seasoning)</li> <li>1 can lard (or one 3-pound can Crisco), enough to cover chicken in fryer (see Secret Recipe Tips below)</li> </ul> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Method:</span></strong></p> <ol> <li>Combine the egg and buttermilk in a large bowl. Soak the chicken pieces in the mixture.</li> <li>Add the flour to a separate bowl and whisk in all the herbs and spices. Roll the chicken in the seasoned flour until completely covered.</li> <li>Add the lard to a pressure fryer and heat to 365 F. Be sure to follow the manufacturer's directions for your pressure fryer.</li> <li>Use a utensil to lower 4 pieces of the chicken into the hot oil, and lock the lid in place. Meet the most unlikely best friends: Fugly the pug and KFC the chick

<p>It’s a friendship that’s the making of a Disney film. New BBC doco “Billion Dollar Chicken Shop” reveals 35-day life of KFC chickens

<p>It’s one of the most popular fast food chains and in the UK alone, KFC sells 400 pieces of chicken every minute, but it’s also a chain that’s divided public opinion. Now a BBC three-part documentary series – called <em>The Billion Dollar Chicken Shop</em> – is going behind-the-scenes to reveal all. Episodes follow a teenager who just started a job at KFC, a manager who throws a theme nights at his franchise and a couple who are trying to stop a KFC being built opposite their house.
