"Someone is going to die": Kerri-Anne slams "irresponsible" Elle Macpherson interview

Kerri-Anne Kennerley has slammed Elle Macpherson for announcing that she allegedly "cured" her breast cancer after shunning the advice of doctors and opting for "holistic" treatment paths instead, while also taking aim at 60 Minutes for airing an interview with the supermodel where she doubled down on her beliefs.

In her new memoir, Elle: Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, Macpherson revealed that at the age of 53, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and decided to go against doctors orders for her treatment.

The 60-year-old recalled how her doctors recommended a mastectomy with radiation, chemotherapy, hormone therapy, plus reconstruction of her breast to fight the illness, and how she instead decide to forge her own path of "holistic wellness" to beat the disease without the use on conventional medicines, which she claims "cured" her cancer.

“It really gave me an opportunity to dig deep in my inner sense to find a solution that worked for me," she told Australian's Women's Weekly. “It was a wonderful exercise in being true to myself, trusting myself and trusting the nature of my body and the course of action that I had chosen.”

Macpherson then doubled down on her decision in an exclusive interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday, in which she claimed that there is “no possibility” of her breast cancer recurring given “the body has the infinite capacity to heal”, and making the bizarre remark that it’s “fear” that actually makes people ill.

Kerri-Anne Kennerley, who is also a survivor of breast cancer, was one of many who found problems with the interview, as she said it was dangerous for the news program to broadcast such information.

“Think of the poor oncologists, surgeons and doctors today … inundated with phone calls from people (saying) ‘I’m rethinking my treatment because Elle Macpherson said this and that’,” she told The Australian.

“I understand Elle … did what she thought was good for her personally, but the very fact she has resisted any other medical treatment … absolutely terrifies me.”

“Without question, it will result in the future that somebody will take that line and feel confident enough to try and do it themselves naturally, and someone is going to die.”

Kennerley, who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012, said the 60 Minutes report should've been more "balanced" by having expert testimony from doctors as a counterargument to Elle's claims.

“(60 Minutes reporter) Tracy (Grimshaw) did a piece to camera about it. But to be seriously responsible, you have to have an oncologist who could actually balance Elle’s remarks,” Kennerley said.

“I believe 60 Minutes was irresponsible by not having an oncologist who would give an alternative point of view. Elle’s given her natural point of view, and she’s followed through with it. They should have absolutely gotten an oncologist that said ‘as an oncologist, I’ve seen this type of cancer and many other types of cancers in my 30-year career. People who have not followed the advice have died.'”

Image credits: 60 Minutes / Instagram

"They lied": Kerri-Anne Kennerley blasts I’m A Celeb

Kerri-Anne Kennerley has opened up on her dramatic appearance on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! last year, claiming that she was "lied to" ahead of her decision to sign up.

Speaking to Tammin Sursok on her podcast, The Sh*t Show, Kennerly alleged that Network Ten made promises they couldn't keep.

“[Ten] came to me and promised me this, this and this … and I had nothing else to do at the time,” the TV veteran claimed.

“I got promised a bunch of stuff and they lied. And so instead of being in there, the three weeks I committed to, I got out in three days. They lied.”

Sursok asked her to elaborate on the promises they made, but Kennerley refused.

“I don’t want to go into it now. History. And I’m even dumbfounded that I said to myself after I’ve gone, oh my God. I avoided exactly what happened for 10 years.

“ … If I had thought about it for one more nanosecond and the things that were said to me were not said to me, I wouldn’t have done it in a heartbeat.”

Kennerley tearfully quit I'm A Celebrity last year after clashing with MAFS star Domenica Calarco, who she claimed called her "the most self-centred b***h” she’d ever met during an eating challenge.

The TV veteran added that going on the show was the "dumbest" decision she has ever made.

“Comes out as absolutely number one dumb and as backed by several of my friends – especially straight after [I left IAC], them going, ‘You didn’t tell us, we would’ve locked you in a room if you had said you were going’,” she admitted.

“But I don’t know … I’ve always thought I was pretty bulletproof, and then you get wounded and move on. But no … dumb, dumb, dumb – and lies. That’s what I put it down to.”

Images: Ten

Ted Bundy cold case finally solved after 51 years

In March 1973 the half-naked body of Ann Woodward was found brutally murdered on the floor inside the pub that she owned with her husband.

The 46-year-old mother's body was discovered between two pool tables, with her shirt unbuttoned and pants used to strangle her.

Her murder has haunted the small US desert town of Moab, Utah for over half a century. While police were never able to find her killer, they believed Ted Bundy was the likely culprit, as he had raped and killed multiple women in the area around the time of her death.

While Bundy admitted to thirty murders, his real victim count is unknown.

However, they had not been able to prove that he was the culprit due to a lack of evidence, so police assumed she was just another one of his unnamed victims.

25 other men, including Douglas Keith Chudomelka, had also been of interest to police after the crime, as witnesses spotted Chudomelka's sedan parked near the victims car on the night of the murder.

However, when Chudomelka was interviewed the next day, he denied being at the bar, and insisted that he was at a nearby tavern.

His girlfriend at the time, a woman named Joyce, also backed his statement and said he was home at the time of the murder on March 2, 1973.

A few months later, Chudomelka was arrested on a domestic violence charge, with an angry Joyce claiming he had been the one who killed Ann Woodward, but she soon retracted her statement.

With no new leads, the case went cold, but forward-thinking Police Chief Melvin Dalton, decided to keep DNA evidence from both the victim and all potential suspects anyways, in hopes that one day the right technology would be used to identify the killer.

In 2006, Dalton reopened the case, but had no luck until September 2023, when Detective Jeremy Dexler decided to uncover the two boxes of evidence collected from the initial investigation and send it to the crime lab.

The DNA evidence had sat at the Moab police department's storage units for over 50 years and was not easy to locate as it had been moved to another building.

The evidence was crucial in solving the cold case.

When results from the crime lab came back at the end of May 2024, they confirmed that a substantial amount of Chudomelka’s DNA was on the inside of Ann’s pants and on all of the buttons of her shirt.

This was enough to confirm that Chudomelka was the one responsible for Ann Woodward's murder. He was 36 when he committed the crime.

Chudomelka was not known to the victim, but Detective Drexler believes that he may have played a game of poker with Ann when he visited the pub, and may have been angry at her for beating him.

He added that it could have also been a crime of opportunity rather than rage as he had a violent history.

Detective Drexler praised Dalton's forward-thinking for being the reason why they solved the case.

“This case hinged on the hair Dalton pulled in 1973,” Drexler said.

“I have no idea how he knew that we would be able to do that today. Dalton made this case very easy for us in that aspect.”

Chudomelka passed away in 2002 at the age of 67 without ever paying for his crime, but County Lawyer Stephen Stocks believes that if he was still alive, he would've been found guilty of murder.

“I hope today brings some closure to the family,” he said.

“I truly believe had this been presented to a jury, Chudomelka would have been found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the murder of Ann Woodward.”

Images: Moab Police Department

Remains found of backpacker who disappeared 23 years ago

Police have located the remains of a backpacker who was last seen 23 years ago.

In 2001, Kellie Ann Carmichael, who was 24 at the time, left her hostel in Katoomba to go for a walk and was never seen again.

Now during an unrelated search in the Blue Mountains bushland, NSW Police have located human remains that, after initial testing, have been confirmed to be the young backpacker from Geelong.

At the time of her disappearance, Kellie was last seen by staff at a Katoomba hostel on 29th April 2001, as she had told staff she would return that day to collect her belongings.

Her parents contacted hostel staff on May 5th, and after discovering her belongings were still at reception, they reported her missing to police.

After police launched an investigation into her disappearance, it was believed that Carmichael had taken her own life, due to her ongoing struggles with schizophrenia.

However, Kellie's mother Margaret knew her daughter wouldn't commit suicide, telling the Geelong Advertiser, "We know that, and everyone who knew her knows that."

"She wasn't well at the time but she loved life and was a beautiful girl."

Her father, John, said the grim developments had taken their toll on the couple, who are now hoping to take her remains back home to Victoria.

In 2011, a $200,000 reward was issued for information related to the case, after a coronial inquest ruled Carmichael had died but was unable to provide a direct cause or circumstances.

Carmichael’s parents have previously said they felt robbed by their daughter’s mysterious disappearance.

“We’ve never had the chance to have our daughter … our family has never been the same,” Margaret Carmichael said in 2011.

Image credits: Missing Persons Register / NSW Police

King Charles shares birthday photo of baby Princess Anne

To commemorate Princess Anne's birthday, the official social media accounts of the monarchy posted two images – one captured at Buckingham Palace on May 6 at the King's Coronation, ceremony, with King Charles and his sister both adorned in regal attire, and the other of the siblings at a very young age.

In the Coronation picture, King Charles dons the resplendent Imperial State Crown, his purple satin coronation tunic, and the dignified Robe of Estate, offering a cheerful smile to his sister. Princess Anne, meanwhile, dressed in the uniform of the Colonel of the Blues and Royals, wears a striking red plumed hat and a military ensemble.

Personally appointed by her brother, King Charles, Princess Anne led a procession of 6,000 armed services personnel through London's streets in her capacity as "Gold-Stick-in Waiting" at the historic event - the first woman to fulfill this role of being responsible for the monarch's safety. This tradition traces its origins back to the 15th century, with the roles of Gold Stick and Silver Stick established to safeguard the monarch from harm.

However, it was the addition of the throwback image from the family archive that really turned heads: A snapshot from 1951, capturing a two-year-old Charles gently reaching over to clasp the hand of his nearly one-year-old sister Anne. This delightful moment crystallises their sibling bond.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily)

This birthday holds a bittersweet sentiment for Princess Anne, as it marks her first celebration since the passing of her mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Often lauded as the hardest-working member of the royal family, Princess Anne has seamlessly resumed her commitments following the loss. House of Hope: Fresh start for Kelly's kids

Gold Coast mum Kelly Wilkinson, who tragically passed away two years ago, has left behind three young children between the ages of two and nine.

Her life was cut short in April 2021, allegedly at the hands of her estranged husband, Brian Earl Johnston. The horrific incident resulted in Kelly's body being found badly burned in her Arundel home's backyard, while Mr Johnston was discovered nearby with severe burns to his hands and airway.

Since then, Kelly's children have been under the care of her sister, Danielle Carroll, and her husband Rhys. The Carroll family, along with their five children and Kelly's three kids, have been living together in a cramped four-bedroom house, where living spaces were converted into sleeping quarters. The challenges of accommodating such a large family in limited space have been immense, and at times, they find themselves with five people sharing a single bed.

However, their situation took a positive turn when businesswoman Tamika Smith, a relative of Mr Carroll, heard about the tragedy and decided to lend her support.

The founder of My Bella Casa and Top 100 Women launched a campaign called "I Stand With Kelly" shortly after Ms Wilkinson's passing. The campaign aimed to build a new home for the 10-person family.

With the help of an anonymous contributor, Ms Smith secured a plot of land, and the renowned homebuilder, Metricon, generously donated an entire house for the cause.

After two years of hard work and dedication, the family's fully furnished new home was finally revealed to them.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Tamika Smith (@tamika_stephanie)

Mr Carroll expressed his excitement about the new house, especially for Kelly's three children, as it will provide them with a fresh start and a place they can call their own. While the loss of their mother is deeply felt, the children are constantly surrounded by love and care from their extended family.

Kelly's kids have not forgotten their mother, and though they miss her dearly, they understand that she is no longer with them.

“They know she’s gone," Mrs Carroll told A Current Affair. "They constantly say that they miss her. The two year old does ask for mum but they know she’s not coming back.”

The Carroll family, along with their own children, have written heartfelt letters to thank the builders for their incredible efforts in creating this new home.

The house not only represents a new beginning for Ms Wilkinson's children and the Carroll family but also serves as a reminder of the love she brought to her family before her untimely passing.

Though the pain of her loss remains, the community's support in building this new home has been a heartwarming gesture, one that Kelly's family deeply appreciates and will surely treasure forever.

Images: Today Show / Instagram / GoFundMe

"It was unbecoming": Domenica Calarco opens up on her feud with Kerri-Anne

Domenica Calarco has opened up on her fiery feud with Kerri-Anne Kennerley in the I'm a Celeb jungle.

The outspoken MAFS contestant was booted from the jungle in a shock elimination on Monday night, and has spoken out her now infamous argument with the TV presenter.

While in the jungle, Domenica and Kerri-Anne clashed over Kerri-Anne's refusal to participate in team challenges, prompting Dom to tell her she had “no respect” and that she’d never met anyone “so selfish”.

Fellow celeb Dicko also revealed after his exit last week that Calarco had also called Kennerley a “c**t” in scenes that didn’t make it to air.

Chatting exclusively with news.com.au, Calarco confirmed that she did drop the C-bomb, admitting that her language during the argument was “unacceptable”.

She also privately asked producers to pass on an apology to Kennerley, who abruptly quit the show after just three days after the clash.

“I haven’t spoken to her personally because I was in the jungle but I had passed on a message to her,” Calarco said.

“I have apologised for my language, it was unbecoming. I wouldn’t use that language again, now that I’m fed."

“But in the heat of the moment, I was struggling mentally. The sleep deprivation, the food deprivation, it gets to you. So for me, it was a culmination of all of that."

“I’m not proud of the language, but I stand by how I felt. And I still feel that [way].”

Despite the explosive fight, Domenica said she was shocked at Kerri-Anne's decision to leave the jungle.

“I kind of thought KAK had a little bit more in her. I didn’t think she’d throw in the towel,” she said, before adding one final blow, “[But] she did have to get back to Port Douglas on April 22 for a golf tournament, so …”

Calarco said Kennerley’s refusal to attempt any of the difficult challenges in order to “get her campmates fed” became the source of her frustrations, and ultimately led to her outburst.

“KAK was constantly getting voted in [to do challenges] because people wanted to see her push herself out of her comfort zone, but before we even headed in, she was adamant she wasn’t going to try,” she said.

“And I was terrified of the food challenges, I have a phobia of vomiting, it was my nightmare fuel situation, but I knew I was going to try because we needed to bring home stars, everyone was starving."

“You’ve got to be selfless, it’s not about you, it’s about feeding everyone. So it was that frustration of knowing we were gonna get nowhere with her.”

Now that Domenica has recovered from her deprivations of the jungle, she said she is open to a reconciliation with Kerri-Anne and a chance to apologise in person.

“[If I saw her] I’d say, ‘I’d love to get a Pinot gris with you, my shout,’” she said.

“Obviously she’s no longer in Africa but if the chance comes up I’d happily have a chat with her.”

Image credits: I'm a Celebrity... Dicko opens up on Kerri-Anne's dramatic exit from I'm A Celeb

I'm A Celeb evictee Dicko has opened up on the dramatic fight that led to Kerri-Anne Kennerley's abrupt exit from the show.

Kerri-Anne quit the show after just three days, after she was embroiled in an argument with Dicko, MAFS star Domenica Calarco and radio host Woody Whitelaw, as the four contestants were taking part in one of the show's infamous food challenges.

The challenges are notorious for making contestants eat disgusting foods, and as a result, Kerri-Anne refused to participate.

Her continued refusal to take part in challenges – in which contestants win stars, translating to meals for their hungry campmates – was too much for Domenica, who declared she had “never met anyone so selfish,” and insisted KAK had “literally no decency or respect.”

Speaking candidly on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday morning, Dicko explained that things got even nastier when the cameras weren't rolling.

He said that Dom had called Kerri-Anne the c-word, who was "all class" in her response to the insult.

Speaking to news.com.au just hours after he was voted out of camp, Dicko said that while he couldn’t condone “how easily Dom went from nought to Gremlin in five seconds,” he shared her frustrations with how Kennerley played the game.

“I did keep slapping my forehead every time she’d insinuate that she wasn’t going to get involved in any of the challenges in any meaningful way,” he said.

“She wasn’t going to do this or that – well, why are you here? It’s not actually a camping trip. The only way we get fed is with these stars, and if you’re not prepared to have a crack, we’re going to go hungry."

“I honestly think she hadn’t truly grasped that, which is so confusing. She’s a smart woman, you’d presume she’s got management … I don’t understand how they didn’t know what she was stepping into.”

While the fight between the two women was so severe that it lead to Kerri-Anne quitting the show, Dicko admitted he didn't take it seriously in the moment.

“If I’m really honest, myself and Woody were off to one side laughing our tits off. I probably should’ve been a bit more grown up, but watching Australian TV royalty duke it out with a gnarly upstart was just precious – and I had a front-row seat,” he confessed.

“I’d like to be the grown-up in the room and say, ‘This shouldn’t have happened, it’s dragged TV through the mud,’ but I laughed like a drain for two days afterwards I’m afraid. I kind of enjoyed it.”

Image credits: I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here

Kerri-Anne Kennerley's shocking assault allegation

Kerri-Anne Kennerley has opened up about a shocking incident of sexual assault involving a former network boss.

The former TV presenter shared the story with her campmates on I'm a Celebrity... Get Me out of Here, as she revealed that the unnamed male had “unzipped” her dress during a staff gathering.

“It was a Christmas party for our show, and as I was standing there, the back of my dress, the zip, was being unzipped,” she said in a piece to camera.

“So as I swung around to basically say stop it and deck said person, I realised it was the station owner. And I did say, ‘Zip it up or I will deck you.’”

The 66-year-old did not specify when the incident occurred, and did not name the person involved.

Earlier in the episode, Kennerley had been sharing her thoughts on the rife misogyny within the media industry, as she told former host of The Project Peter Helliar she thought it was a "boys club".

“Chauvinism, harassment, hideous behaviour,” she said, describing some of the men she’d encountered throughout her career.

“Executives and producers hitting on the younger girls in there. You know, somebody hits on you and you just draw the line in the sand and everybody gets back to work, that was just the way it was.”

Kennerley added that, in her experience in media, female employees had often been left to pick up the slack for male co-workers.

“The women were all researchers, producers and the guys would sort of tick off yes, yes and then go to lunch for four hours,” she said.

“And the show would all get together because most of the women did all of the work. At the end of the day, you just want to make good TV.

“It has always been just about get a job, hang on to it as long as you can, do as well as you can, and when it is over, you get another one. You just keep doing it, keep turning up.”

Kerri-Anne's extensive media career began in 1981 as she became the host of Good Morning Australia, and she stayed on the air until Kerri-Anne's final episode aired in 2011.

She then became a regular co-host on Ten’s Studio 10 for two years, but left the show in 2020.

Image credits: I'm a Celebrity... Kerri-Anne Kennerley heads to the jungle … on one condition

Former TV presenter Kerri-Anne Kennerly is returning to screens across Australia as one of 13 contestants heading into the South African jungle for the 2023 season of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!

However, while the others will be forced to present a natural front to the cameras, Kerri-Anne wriggled her way into maintaining the “glamorous” look viewers have come to expect from her after 40 years in television.

While speaking to Ten’s Nick Bond, Kerri-Anne revealed that the network’s head of entertainment, Stephen Tate, has been trying to get her to participate in the show every year since it began - something that gave Kerri some extra power when she finally did decide to dive in.

She noted that the final offer had been one she “couldn’t refuse”, but that there had been “a few provisos” along with it. The most important of them was that she “get[s] to take makeup”, with Kerri stating that “natural is very overrated.”

“I can’t be bothered doing that much,” she added, “but it won’t be natural because natural takes a long time. Every girl knows that.”

But that’s not the only difference viewers can expect to see between Kerri and her fellow contestants, with the veteran presenter also scheduled to make her entrance a day after the rest.

Not that she’s concerned, instead suggesting to Bond that they should simply “get better management. Not my problem.”

The opinion of viewers doesn’t look set to faze her either. For anyone doubting that she’ll be able to handle the ‘rustic’ side of camp life, from outdoor bathroom facilities to some of the show’s more extreme challenges, Kerri had already dismissed their take, explaining that “I literally have ridden camels, bulls, horses … held snakes, including cobras and red-bellied blacks … been bitten by a ferret, been scratched by a lion cub.”

Coupled with her experience with heights, Kerri-Anne may yet prove hard to beat for the others vying for the crown with her.

12 dropped into camp the day before Kerri-Anne, each eager to face the challenges the jungle has in store for them, and to ultimately come out on top.

Former Australian Idol judge Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickinson was the first to land, with Married At First Sight’s Domenica Calarco following suit, then Yokayi Footy’s Bianca Hunt, AFL Brownlow medallist Adam Cooney, Home & Away’s Debra Lawrance, and Geordie Shore’s Nathan Henry.

Up next came KIIS National Drive Radio Show’s Woody Whitelaw, celebrity chef Anna Polyviou, Olympic lightweight boxer Harry Garside, netball’s Liz Ellis, Below Deck’s Aesha Scott, and comedian Peter Helliar to round them out.

Images: @kerriannekennerly / Instagram

AFL star marries amid cancer battle

AFL star Jeremy Finlayson and his partner Kellie Gardner have tied the knot in an intimate ceremony.

The Port Adelaide player and his now wife, both 27, exchanged vows in South Australia's Tennyson Beach on Sunday with only 21 close friends and family in attendance.

Kellie shared a photo of the beaming newlyweds showing off their rings on Instagram with the caption, "THE FINLAYSONS", as well wishes for the couple flooded in.

Jeremy and Kellie's wedding was a long time coming, as the couple originally planned to marry in October 2022, but had to postpone their nuptials after Kellie underwent chemotherapy, radiation treatment and surgeries for a devastating cancer diagnosis.

Gardner was diagnosed with bowel cancer two years ago, just three months after their daughter Sophia was born in August 2021.

However, in January came the awful news the cancer had spread to her lungs after the mum-of-one felt a tightening in her chest.

After ruling out COVID-19 as the reason for the pain, it was discovered a mass "a bit bigger than a tennis ball" was discovered in her chest cavity.

In February, Gardner told Mark Soderstrom's The Soda Room podcast she experienced a series of stomach problems ahead of her diagnosis and wishes she got a medical check-up sooner.

"If I had got all of my tummy problems checked and not just been thinking I had a lactose intolerance like every other Joe, Dick and Harry these days. If I had got it checked…" she said on the podcast.

"You hear cancer and you attach it to a 60-year-old. You don't attach it to a 25-year-old who is quite healthy, who runs marathons and who just had a baby."

"I was a fit, young mum. You just don't attach it to that."

Jeremy and Kellie are planning a more extravagant wedding bash for October this year once the AFL season is over, with Gardner hoping to have kicked cancer for good by then.

"Gross criminal neglect": Brisbane mum receives sentence for death of daughters in hot car

Queenslander Kerri-Anne Conley has been sentenced to nine years in prison for the deaths of her two young daughters.

The 30-year-old woman from Logan pleaded guilty to two counts of manslaughter - of two-and-a-half-year-old Darcey-Helen and 18-month-old Chloe-Ann - in Brisbane Supreme Court this week, and today received her sentence from Supreme Court Justice Peter Applegarth.

Initially, she had been charged with the murder of her daughter under a law that expanded the definition of the offence, including reckless indifference to human life. However, this Tuesday Kerri-Ann gave a guilty plea to the downgraded manslaughter charges, as well as to the possession of dangerous drugs and utensils.

In November 2019, Kerri-Ann had taken her daughters Darcey-Helen and Chloe-Ann to her friend’s house, and then made the “deliberate decision” to leave the toddlers in their car seats upon returning home, before going inside to sleep. Both girls died of hyperthermia at their Waterford West home.

"Your first, grossly negligent conduct was in deciding to leave your children in that vulnerable place, uncared for, unheard, and unobserved in the dark," Justice Peter Applegarth declared when handing down Kerri-Ann’s sentence.

"Not checking on the children and securing their safety at 6am was another aspect of your ongoing, gross criminal neglect of your duty of care as their mother,” he went on to say.

"One can only hope that these little girls slowly succumbed to the growing heat of the day much earlier that morning and faded into a deep sleep from which they never returned.

"The alternative of them being awake, distressed, and trapped in their seats is too much to bear thinking about for too long."

Kerri-Ann allegedly went to sleep at 6am, after spending time on her phone, and came to find the girls nine hours later. It is estimated that temperatures within the car reached up to 61 degrees Celsius through the day, and the children were lifeless as she pulled them from the vehicle.

When paramedics arrived, the girls were hot to the touch, covered in blisters, and had skin peeling from them. They were tragically declared dead at the scene.

The court also heard that before Kerri-Ann even contacted emergency services, she attempted to dispose of drug paraphernalia.

Justice Applegarth was firm in the belief that "no child should have a parent who uses methamphetamine". Kerri-Ann later admitted to the police that she had taken ice the day before.

Of Kerri-Ann’s “egregious breach of trust” against her defenceless children, Crown Prosecutor Sarah Dennis stated that “they were left asleep and presumably restrained in their car seats without the ability or means to free themselves or to seek assistance or to protect themselves from the searing temperatures.”

“They were entirely dependent on the defendant, their mother, for their basic needs, one being to keep them protected from harm,” she added. “Rather than doing that, the actions of the defendant exposed them to harm.”

Sarah Dennis went on to tell the court that the girls’ deaths could easily have been avoided, and that it wasn’t forgetfulness that had been the cause, but instead Kerri-Ann’s carelessness.

“Her behaviour,” she said, “represented an apathy to her own children that was callous.”

Justice Applegarth noted that Kerri-Ann had been the victim of an abusive childhood, and acknowledged her diagnosis in custody of a depressive disorder and guilt induced psychosocial stress.

"I accept you are remorseful and not a day goes by that you don't think about the death of your daughters and the effect this had on others," he said.

Ultimately, Justice Applegarth said that Kerri-Ann’s meth use had led to her daughters’ deaths, and that her previous drug convictions had done nothing to inform her parenting. It was reportedly not the first time she had left her children alone in the car.

Kerri-Ann has already served over three years on remand - the majority of which was in custody - with Justice Applegarth having declared this as time served, and will be eligible for parole late November 2024.

Images: 9News
