"Liam was somebody I looked up to everyday, such a positive, funny, and kind soul. And for the record, Liam was in my opinion the most vital part of One Direction. His experience from a young age, his perfect pitch, his stage presence, his gift for writing. The list goes on. Thank you for shaping us Liam."

Tomlinson then shared a "message to you Liam if you’re listening", writing, "I feel beyond lucky to have had you in my life but I’m really struggling with the idea of saying goodbye. I’m so grateful that we got even closer since the band, speaking on the phone for hours , reminiscing about all the thousands of amazing memories we had together is a luxury I thought I’d have with you for life. I would have loved to share the stage with you again but it wasn’t to be. "

He went on to share a message to Payne's seven-year-old son Bear, adding, "I want you to know that if Bear ever needs me I will be the Uncle he needs in his life and tell him stories of how amazing his dad was."

"I wish I got chance to say goodbye and tell you one more time how much I loved you. Payno, my boy, one of my best friends, my brother, I love you mate. Sleep well X."

Zayn Malik, another member of One Direction, also shared his own tribute, writing how he has found himself talking out loud to Payne “hoping you can hear me”.

“I can’t help but think selfishly that there were so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” he continued.

“I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life. When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let you know. that you were my friend and I was loved.”

“I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give just to give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly.”

“There is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are. Love you bro,” he concluded the post.

Harry Styles also shared a tribute after Liam's sudden death, writing, "I am truly devastated by Liam's passing."

"His greatest joy was making other people happy, and it was an honour to be alongside him as he did it," he continued.

"Liam lived wide open, with his heart on his sleeve, he had an energy for life that was infectious. He was warm, supportive, and incredibly loving. The years we spent together will forever remain among the most cherished years of my life. I will miss him always, my lovely friend."

He concluded his message, which was shared alongside the "🖤" emoji and a photo of Payne looking out onto the stage, with: "My heart breaks for Karen, Geoff, Nicola and Ruth, his son Bear, and all those around the world who knew and loved him, as I did."

The One Direction Instagram account also shared a statement from all four of the members, that said, “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”

The statement was signed from Louis, Zayn, Harry, as well as Niall Horan.

“He tried to kill me": Shock claims against former TV presenter

Former Channel Seven presenter Liam David Cox has appeared via audiovisual link in Sydney Downing Centre Local Court on Monday, following claims that he forcefully strangled a woman during a domestic dispute.

The woman told police that Cox had wrestled her to the ground, straddled her, and proceeded to forcefully strangle her until she lost consciousness.

“He tried to kill me,” she told police.

The court heard that police found the woman bleeding from her nose and coughing up blood, when they attended the scene.

They also found blood splattered on the bedsheets and pillows, and on tissues in the toilet. She was treated by paramedics before being hospitalised for her injuries.

The alleged incident occurred at a house in Vaucluse, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, on the night of May 4, and Cox was arrested at a hotel in Bondi Beach the following day.

Cox has spent nearly a month behind bars, and was applying for bail during the court hearing on Monday.

The court heard that the altercation occurred after he had attended a charity fundraiser with the woman where he had a few drinks before they became embroiled in a heated argument.

Magistrate Greg Grogin said the facts stated that the woman had been “the instigator” and “quite aggressive”, adding that he wasn't "victim blaming" but adding context to the “extremely serious allegations” where Cox allegedly lashed out after an “ongoing” argument.

Cox's lawyer Ben Barrack told the court the couple had clashed three times that night, and the woman had punched and kicked him in the lead up to the alleged assault.

The former TV presenter also claimed that he was acting in self-defence, but admitted that he had not used reasonable force.

His lawyer added that the woman’s allegations were “highly problematic” and emphasised she had not yet provided a statement to police about the alleged assault.

Police prosecutor Nellia Ng argued that Cox should not be granted bail because there was a risk that he would further endangered the alleged victim commit further offences, or fail to appear in court.

However, the Magistrate determined that the risks could be mitigated if Cox resided in Queensland and was barred from contacting his alleged victim.

He granted bail with strict conditions including having to surrender his passport, report to police, and abstain from contacting the woman.

“Domestic violence should not occur anywhere at any time with anybody for any reason,” Magistrate Grogin said.

“Any temptation to contact (the woman) will be a short-course way to come back before the court via AVL wearing green. You don’t need to do that.”

Image: YouTube

Liam Neeson filming new movie in tiny Aussie town

The quaint, gorgeous historic Victorian town of Walhalla is gearing up for its moment in the cinematic spotlight as it gets set to become the backdrop for Liam Neeson's upcoming blockbuster sequel, Ice Road 2: Road To The Sky.

Yes, apparently, the road to the sky involves a detour through rural Australia.

Residents of Walhalla received a letter announcing the impending movie magic, and it's safe to say they're experiencing a mixture of excitement and confusion akin to trying to follow the plot of a Christopher Nolan epic.

According to reports, the filmmakers are turning Walhalla into a bona fide Nepalese village. The town's Star Hotel and surrounding areas are getting a makeover to mimic Kodari, Nepal. Now, if you're wondering where Walhalla is on the map, don't worry, you're not alone. Even the residents seem a bit perplexed, with one local commenting online, "Interesting that this is going ahead at the height of our tourist season." Because, naturally, when you think tourist hotspots, you think Walhalla.

But fear not, dear residents, for the filmmakers have assured everyone that after their Himalayan escapade, Walhalla will return to its original heritage colours. It's like the town is getting a cinematic spa day, complete with a paint job.

Filming is set to take place at two main locations: the intersection of Main Rd and Right Hand Branch Rd and the top of Churchill Rd above the Fire Station Museum. And oh boy, get ready for some action, because the letter states, "During the filming period, there will be stunts involving large vehicles, special effects and prop gun use."

Walhalla, known for its scenic beauty and historic charm, is about to witness the fusion of Hollywood glitz and Nepalese grit.

Of course, not everyone is on board with this Hollywood invasion. One local expressed concern about the impact on other businesses in town, suggesting, "This would have been much better slotted into the quiet time in August." Clearly, they're not buying into the idea that summer is the best time for a Nepalese makeover.

But fear not, skeptics! Another resident pointed out that the influx of up to 200 crew members per day will be a boon for local shops. "What a great thing for the area," they declared. And who can argue with that logic? Imagine the crew swarming the pub, devouring schnitties and downing pints of Carlton lager. This could be the most Aussie-Nepalese fusion experience since Vegemite momos.

As the charming town of Walhalla braces itself for the coming storm of movie magic, we can't help but wonder: Will Liam Neeson's next iconic line be, "I will find you, even if I have to navigate the treacherous roads of rural Australia"? Buckle up, Walhalla, because the road to the sky might just be a detour through down under.

Images: Visit Victoria / Netflix

Happy ending after company's awful retirement send-off

An elderly gentleman in the United States, who had faithfully served as an "extremely dependable" employee for 42 years, recently experienced a remarkable change in his fortunes, thanks in large part to the generosity of individuals from Australia.

John Bartlett, the dedicated worker in question, had received underwhelming recognition from an unnamed company for his decades of commitment. His daily 40-minute commute on public transportation to a job paying only the minimum wage went largely unnoticed until recently, causing widespread consternation.

Sonia, one of his colleagues, was deeply moved by the perceived injustice and decided to share a video clip of Bartlett's story online. In her post, she expressed her wish that his hard work had been better acknowledged and thanked him for his unwavering loyalty. She noted that Bartlett loved his job so much that he was reluctant to retire, receiving nothing more than a barbecue and a certificate as a token of appreciation.

After sharing Bartlett's story on social media, Sonia was inundated with messages from people eager to contribute to his well-deserved retirement. Responding to this outpouring of support, she set up a GoFundMe campaign, inviting the public to contribute "a little something for a better retirement" for him.

Within a matter of days, the fundraiser received an overwhelming response, with donations and messages pouring in from around the world, including numerous contributions from Australians. The campaign was eventually closed after more than 1,900 individuals contributed, resulting in a total of A$57,454 for Bartlett's retirement fund.

In his 70s, Bartlett was left speechless when Sonia shared this incredible news with him. She conveyed the global impact of his story and the messages of support he had received from people across the globe. Overwhelmed by the gesture, Bartlett could only smile and nod in response.

“They left messages for you," said Sonia in the video. "So I’m going to print it out and go ahead and make something nice for you so you can read it on your own time. We started the GoFundMe because they wanted to give you something for your retirement on their part and it just blew up overnight. You deserve it, OK? I’m going to make sure everything goes to your account, just for you.”

Supporters encouraged Bartlett to use the funds for special treats, like a grand holiday or for spending time with loved ones. Messages from donors expressed their heartfelt wishes for his retirement and new beginnings.

Sonia expressed her gratitude to the donors, assuring them that every cent raised would be placed directly into Bartlett's account. In her final update to the GoFundMe account, she thanked donors for their kindness and reaffirmed her commitment to ensuring Bartlett received every penny, attributing the success of the campaign to their collective efforts.

In the end, the power of community and compassion won out, as people from all walks of life came together to make a meaningful difference in the life of an individual who had dedicated so much to his job.

Images: TikTok

A company has been slammed online for their measly attempt to farewell a hard-working employee of 42 years.

John Barlett was a dedicated worker for four decades, commuting long distances to work at minimum wage and give his all to his colleagues.

After 42 years of hard work, John announced his retirement from the company, prompting a measly farewell party from his place of work.

One of John’s longtime co-worker, Sonia, was devastated over the injustice, sharing a short clip to social media of John – now in his 70s – and what she felt was his hard work going unappreciated.

“Today is my co-worker’s last day. He worked for this company for 42 years making minimum wage,” Sonia wrote with the video.

“The company only threw him a barbecue and gave him a certificate. He takes the bus and Bart (train) to get here every day on time. He’s 70+.”

“He loves working here so much he didn’t want to retire. [He got] No bonus, just a barbecue and a certificate. Don’t be a slave to your job. Thank you John for your loyalty.”

The video quickly went viral and was flooded with comments of support for John, with one person even suggesting that John start a GoFundMe for people to contribute to his retirement.

In the fundraiser, she revealed John could not drive because of a disability, but “rain or shine” would always make it to work.

He was “extremely dependable”, Sonia added, revealing it had been difficult to convince him to take a break because he always wanted to work.

He was “one of the most talented and hard working” employees at the company and his energy was “unmatched”, she said.

“He has no wife or kids, however he does have a nephew whom he loves dearly,” she wrote in the fundraiser.

“It would be nice to give him some kind of company or something to do so he knows that he’s special and loved.”

In the few days since the GoFundMe was created, it has raised almost $45,000, as many shared their comments of support.

One person wrote, “Happy retirement, John. You deserve more than what this company has offered you. Wish you all the best in your life and your future.”

Never-before-seen CCTV sheds new light into Bruce Lehrmann rape allegations

Bruce Lehrmann, the man who was accused of sexually assaulting former political staffer Brittany Higgins in Parliament House, has shared his take in his first television interview with 7News Spotlight.

The rape charge against Lehrmann - which was eventually dropped - could be traced back to March 2019, when both Lehrmann and Higgins were working for Linda Reyonlds, a former defence minister.

In the time since, Lehrmann has repeatedly denied the accusations, and continued to do so while speaking to Spotlight’s Liam Bartlett.

According to Lehrmann, he was with Higgins and fellow Defence staff members for drinks on the night of the alleged rape, with Lehrmann suggesting that they should move their festivities to a different venue - a nearby club.

Their night out continued into the small hours of the next day, and Lehrmann noted that he had suggested sharing a ride home with Higgins, as they both apparently lived in the same direction from the party.

As he told Bartlett, he had to grab his keys - as well as file some notes - from the office en route, with the two arriving at Parliament House at around 2am. Lehrmann didn't have his pass, claiming that he “probably just forgot it” as he “wasn’t expecting it to be a big night.”

And as he informed Bartlett, he remembered Higgins telling him that she needed to visit the office too, and claimed that he didn’t know why.

However, over the course of the rape trial, Lehrmann offered three different reasons as to why he’d had to visit Parliament House. The police were told that he needed his apartment keys, but Parliament House security were told that he had been asked to pick up some documents, and Reynolds’ then-chief of staff Fiona Brown was told that the two had gone into the office to share whiskey.

While that detail is unclear, the episode featured never-before-seen CCTV footage of Lehrmann and Higgins that confirmed the two had been together at both bar and Parliament House.

First, the two could be seen at Canberra’s The Dock bar with their colleagues. And then, at 1:47am, they were recorded entering Reynold’s office, before Lehrmann was spotted leaving Parliament House at 2:30am.

Lehrmann claimed that once they were let into the office, he and Higgins didn’t exchange any words, and instead parted ways. According to Lehrmann, that was the last he saw of her.

He told Bartlett that he hadn’t let Higgins know he was leaving, only for Bartlett to ask why they hadn’t gotten a ride home together.

“She didn’t tell me she needed to go home,” Lehrmann said. “She told me she also had to go to parliament.”

Bartlett questioned it further, wondering why Lehrmann hadn’t checked in on Higgins, but Lehrmann maintained that his mind “was focussed on getting my keys, noting down what I needed to note down.”

And when asked about Higgins being found naked in Reynold’s office, Lehrmann continued to deny the allegations, instead offering that he couldn’t “talk to her because I never saw her again. That was news to me, with the rest of the country.”

As Bartlett then pointed out, “you can then see the contradiction in this. She’s naked on a couch, but here you are acting like a Buddhist monk, making post-it note stickers for a minister.”

Images: 7NEWS Spotlight / Seven

However, the defence said he was affected by mental illness in the form of schizophrenia.

Outside court, Flame’s lawyer Leonie Gittani said her client was “very much” touched by the hug from his dead friend’s mother.

“It’s been a tough journey for him and a tough journey for everyone,” she said.

Ms Anderson also said outside court that "no one's winning out of this" and that she had forgiven Flame.

When he was arrested, Flame ranted to officers about Satan. The court was also shown a video of Flame sitting in a cell hours after Liam's death, calmly explaining what happened that night.

"No-one's going to believe me ... it was so real," he told an officer.

"He became a demon and apparently he was really angry with me ... and it wanted me dead.

"It was real f***ing dark shit."

Flame didn't realise he killed his friend, but did ask "is someone dead because of me?"

He will face a sentencing hearing before Justice Richard Button on December 8th.

Gallagher brothers clash again: Siblings feud over new documentary

Liam Gallagher’s new documentary As It Was premiered, but it wasn’t without controversy.

Liam said that his ex-bandmate, brother and sworn worst enemy Noel Gallagher wouldn’t let him include Oasis music in the film.

The new documentary is set to follow the “emotional story” of Liam and how he went from being at the top of Oasis down to “lost in the musical wilderness of boredom, booze and bitter legal battles”.

Liam describes it as, “about my musical comeback – it covers the writing and recording of my first solo album [2017s As We Were, which hit #1 in the UK], right through to playing it live for the very first time in my hometown of Manchester and around the world,” according to Music Feeds.

Liam addressed fans at the premiere and said that Noel wouldn’t give him permission to use their Oasis songs in the documentary.

“I think he has seen it, him and his little people [have seen] it and took the Oasis music out of it because that’s all he’s got left for me. The Andrew Denton question that broke Angry Anderson

In an in-depth chat with Andrew Denton on Channel Seven’s Interview, Gary “Angry” Anderson has opened up about life after losing his youngest son, Liam Anderson.

26-year-old Liam died after an altercation with 20-year-old Matthew Flame, in Queenscliff, NSW at 6 am in the morning of November 4 last year.

A fight which occurred after Liam went to assist Flame, who was under the influence of drugs and alcohol, led to the death of Angry's youngest son.

The aspiring rapper was described as a “beautiful soul” by his family.

The passionate 71-year-old father opened up in an emotional interview on Andrew Denton’s Channel Seven program and discussed life after the tragic loss.

The veteran host agreed to not discuss the details of the night Liam lost his life or even mention his name, and instead focussed on life for Angry Anderson in the last six months.

“I know that I can’t use anger to express myself,” the singer explained.

“I am not angry. I am just profoundly sad. The bad days are awful. Sometimes I just don’t leave the house. Nothing can describe those first terrible days.”

"Can you imagine a time when there's laughter in your household again?" He had so much love to give to everyone, not just his family, complete strangers.

“He had amazing strength for such a young person. If he wanted something he worked hard to get it, especially around his music.”

Denton asked, “The last thing he did was to be kind. Do you take any comfort from that?”

“I've tried, I've tried,” a distraught Angry explained.

“I can’t think about those last moments.”

“But one thing I did say … in the press, just to right some wrong things that were being printed, was that the way he was raised is what got him into that situation. He was looking after somebody. And so, do I regret that? How could I possibly regret that? He was the man I wanted him to be.”

Distraught, Angry broke down in tears while saying, “I can’t do this, I’m sorry.”

The Rose Tattoo lead singer further said he was going through the process of learning “acceptance".

“Believing that time heals, et cetera, they’re all true. The reason they’re cliches is because they’re true. Time takes care of us in the most beautiful way if we allow that to happen. I’ve learnt that the hard way, like we all do.”

Roxanne explained the horrific tragedy has brought the family closer together.

“We still have happiness, regardless of something that has been so tragic for us,” she said.

“If anything it’s taken the love for each other and the appreciation for each other to a whole other level.”
