Outrage after grandma beaten at home by fake officers

<p>The quiet neighbourhood of Girrawheen, Perth, has been rocked by a vicious assault perpetrated by three assailants disguised as police officers. The aftermath of this cowardly act has left an older couple traumatised and the community reeling with shock and outrage, with police releasing a graphic image of one of the victims in an attempt to help bring the perpetrators to justice.</p> <p>The victim of this brutal attack, 73-year-old Nannette, bore the brunt of the assailants' aggression, enduring a savage beating while her husband, Phillip, was bound and left traumatised inside their own home. The assailants, described as having olive complexions, fled the scene after ransacking the house and stealing jewellery of significant value.</p> <p>The image released by Western Australia Police, with Nannette's approval, was a stark portrayal of the brutality inflicted upon her. Police Commissioner Col Blanch condemned the attack in the strongest terms, expressing his disgust at the violence perpetrated against innocent civilians in their own home. “I saw the photo of the victim this morning, and it made me sick to my stomach,” Blanch said. “To have people at home suffer that type of attack is a disgrace.”</p> <p>Detective Inspector Gary Butler, visibly disturbed by the severity of the incident, highlighted the need for the community to come together to support the investigation and ensure that justice is served. "Violence of this nature is unacceptable, and it will not be tolerated," he said.</p> <p>The daughter of the victims also spoke out, shedding light on the harrowing ordeal her parents endured. She described her mother as a resilient individual who had recently battled cancer and was in the process of recovering. The attack has not only left physical scars but has also shattered their sense of security in their own home. “They tied my dad up, in their own home," she said. "So it’s not safe to come back.”</p> <p>Nannette, reportedly traumatised and in pain, requires medical treatment for her injuries. The psychological toll of such a traumatic experience is immeasurable, not only for the victims but also for their loved ones and the wider community.</p> <p>In the wake of this despicable act, Inspector Butler issued a plea for information, urging anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. “Bloody ripper of a meteor” lights up Perth skies

<p>A few lucky Western Australians have witnessed the moment a bright green meteor flashed brightly across the state's South West.</p> <p>The meteor was the size of a cricket ball and had a 200-kilometre-long tail, which was first spotted at around 8.50pm on Wednesday after entering the atmosphere over Pemberton.</p> <p>The rare spectacle, which only happens around three times a year, lasted about five seconds and travelled at a speed of 30 km/h  before the mix of iron, rock and ice dissolved over the Southern Ocean. </p> <p>“Iron meteors give off that beautiful green glow,” Perth Observatory spokesperson Matt Woods told <em>7NEWS</em>.</p> <p>Experts also said that this was triggered by the outer layer of the meteor melting because of intense friction.</p> <p>The observatory said that the meteor had set off a flood of messages, emails and calls from the people that witnessed the natural phenomenon. </p> <p>“That was a bloody ripper of a meteor tonight,” they posted on their Facebook page. </p> <p>One witness said that you had to see it with your own eyes to fully appreciate its beauty. </p> <p>“I will say it was way better in person. It looked almost rainbow-coloured. Just spectacular,” commented one person. </p> <p>“Did anyone just see a bright streak of light shooting from the sky? Women's fitness group praised for stopping man from allegedly drowning his son

<p>In a heart-pounding moment of courage and quick thinking, a group of women in an outdoor fitness class have rescued a 5-year-old boy after his father allegedly tried to drown him. </p> <p>The alleged incident occurred at the Dampier foreshore, in the remote region of Pilbara Western Australia. </p> <p>Police allege that the 26-year-old man drove his four-wheel drive into the ocean, before repeatedly forcing the child's head under water. </p> <p>The group of women intervened and helped save the child, with one believed to have punched the man several times, injuring her hand in the process according to the<em> Sydney Morning Herald</em>.</p> <p>WA Police have praised the “bravery” of the community members, who allegedly hit the man until he released the child. </p> <p>“Without their involvement, their courage and their bravery to get involved, it could have ended a lot worse,” WA Police spokesman told <em>ABC Pilbara</em>.</p> <p>“They responded without hesitation and contacted the police.”</p> <p>Emergency services were called to the foreshore around 6am on Monday, with the man arrested shortly after. </p> <p>The five-year-old child was taken to the hospital for assessment but is believed to be uninjured. </p> <p><span style="font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Open Sans', 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif;">The 26-year-old man from Nickol </span>has since been charged with a number of offences, including attempting unlawfully to kill,  two counts of assault with intent to commission a crime, reckless driving and one account of no authority to drive (never held). </p> <p>He was refused bail and will appear in Karratha Magistrate’s Court at a later date. </p> <p><em>Image: news.com.au</em></p>

L-plater attacked with traffic cone reveals what sparked road rage outburst

<p>A Perth teenager was behind the wheel for the first time, when the "classy" passenger of a BMW behind erupted with rage.</p> <p>The woman attacked the L-plater behind the wheel in a bizarre outburst, yelling out expletives and hurling a traffic cone in their direction. </p> <p>The L-plater behind the wheel, Aleyna Helvaci, 16, was accompanied by a professional driving instructor when the ugly incident occurred after she accidentally stalled at a busy intersection. </p> <p>“She was just full out wild, I turned (the car) back on, put my foot on the clutch, and everything was ready," Helvaci told 7 NEWS. </p> <p>“I was going to take off, but before I could there was a really loud horn.”</p> <p>Footage of the interaction went viral after the teen's mum posted the outburst on TikTok. </p> <p>“F*** you” the woman screamed as she stormed down the road in front of standstill traffic before pretending to chuck her handbag in the car's direction. </p> <p>She then reaches for a nearby traffic cone and hurls it at the car. </p> <p>“F***ing sl**, move on up!” she screamed before storming back to her own car - its horn still blaring at the teen. </p> <p>At one point, the equally enraged male driver held the horn down for nine seconds straight, as the person calmly filming the incident is told to note down the plate number. </p> <p>The woman eventually sits back down in her car, but doesn't stop screaming expletives at the teen. </p> <p>When they finally merged right to flee the scene, the driver got in on the action himself, honking his horn and flipping his middle finger at the teen. </p> <p>The video racked up thousands of views on TikTok before it was removed, a number of people have slammed the SUV owner's “disgusting behaviour”, adding that “we were all learners at one stage”.</p> <p>“Absolutely disgusting behaviour. I am so sick of this sh*t. Control your anger and grow up!”  one commented. </p> <p>“This is so bad! It’s always the ones with the rich cars too hey … Y’all so 'classy,'" wrote another. </p> <p>Helvaci's family has since filed a police report and the teen told 7News that it would take some time before she felt safe behind the wheels again. </p> <p>“It is all about building confidence in the end, so this is all part of the experience,” she said.</p> <p><em>Images: TikTok</em></p>

“F**k vegans”: Top chef bans vegans from restaurant

<p dir="ltr">Top Aussie chef John Mountain has banned all vegans from his restaurant in Connoly, Perth after an ugly dispute with a customer split the internet.</p> <p dir="ltr">The chef took to Instagram on Tuesday to announce that vegans won’t be catered to at his restaurant Fyre, which is a big missed steak for the vegans.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Sadly all vegans are now banned from Fyre (for mental health reasons),” he wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr">“We thank you for your understanding. You and all your vegan mates can all go and enjoy your dishes in another venue. You are now banned”</p> <p dir="ltr">Mountain, who was all Fyred up, also said: “F**k vegans seriously … I’m done. At the end of the day, it’s not what I want to do, they can f**k off.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Since the entire ordeal Fyre has been flooded with one star reviews, but many others have awarded it five stars and flooded the comments with positive messages.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Because of your news article I'm now following you and intend to book ! AFL star released on bail following burglary charges

<p>Richmond AFL premiership player Marlion Pickett has been granted bail after allegedly stealing more than $380,000 during a series of burglaries of commercial properties.</p> <p>The athlete faced Perth Magistrates Court on June 12 for at least 12 separate charges, including aggravated burglary, criminal damage and stealing.</p> <p>The charges relate to a string of alleged incidents which police claim occurred between December 2022 and January 2023, during the AFL off-season.</p> <p>Pickett was arrested by WA Police on June 11, just hours after helping his team score a 15-point win over the Fremantle Dockers at Perth Stadium.</p> <p>He was freed from custody the following day after securing $50,000 bail and depositing a further $50,000 surety.</p> <p>Pickett has over 70 games with the Richmond Tigers under his belt following his debut in the 2019 AFL Grand Final, the first player to have done so in almost 70 years.</p> <p>The Richmond Football Club told the <em>ACB</em> in a statement that it “would continue to support Marlion and his family while these matters are dealt with”.</p> <p>Pickett’s Perth-based manager Anthony Van Der Wielen told the broadcaster that the AFL giant intended to fight the charges.</p> <p>“Due to the ongoing legal nature of the proceedings, Marlion, or myself will not be able to provide any further details, comment or clarification about the matter at this stage,” he said in a statement.</p> <p>“We understand and respect the public’s interest in this matter, but we also implore all to respect the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise, and to allow the legal proceedings to follow their due course without prejudice.”</p> <p>Pickett is due to face the same court in August.</p> <p><em>Image credit: Getty</em></p>

Parents' grim warning after losing 3-year-old to flu

<p>Doctors have issued a crucial warning for parents after a healthy and happy Perth toddler became the youngest person in Western Australia to die from the flu in 2023.</p> <p>Muhammed Saadiq Segaff is being remembered as a cheerful but cheeky boy after dying from a strain of the flu virus, influenza A.</p> <p>The three-year-old’s health rapidly declined at Fiona Stanley Hospital, located about 16km from the state's capital, where the toddler went from having difficulty breathing to cardiac arrest.</p> <p>As a result, he underwent open heart surgery before being transported to Perth’s Children's Hospital where doctors and nurses had to use a machine to keep Muhammed’s blood pumping during the transfer.</p> <p>Yet despite their best efforts, they couldn’t save his life, with his parents making the painful decision to turn off his life support on May 26 after his family flew in from Singapore to say their goodbyes.</p> <p>Although influenza is a common virus, it can be fatal in high risk groups as it attacks the lungs, nose and throat.</p> <p>Typical symptoms include chills, fever, fatigue, headaches and muscle aches, with most fit and healthy people able to recover without seeing a doctor.</p> <p>However, young children, senior adults, unhealthy adults and pregnant women have an increased chance of contracting more severe cases due to being immunocompromised.</p> <p>Doctors advise getting a flu shot annually, but statistics are showing that the uptake of flu vaccines in WA in 2023 is slower than usual.</p> <p>“We have a significant and effective prevention strategy for flu, it’s a flu vaccine,” Perth Children’s Hospital infectious diseases specialist Chris Blyth told <em>7News</em>.</p> <p>Despite the chilling warning, less than 14 per cent of children under five have gotten the vaccination in WA, with a slimmer figure for those aged between five and 15 years old.</p> <p>Dr Blyth said about 10 per cent of children who are admitted to hospital with the flu require intensive care.</p> <p>Parents are advised to monitor children for unusual symptoms associated with the flu, such as breathlessness and fast breathing, which Dr Blyth warned could impact the heart.</p> <p>“Confusion or drowsiness is another important sign. Both of those things would make me want to seek medical advice,” he said.</p> <p>“In the middle of winter, our hospitals are full of people with respiratory illnesses but if parents think their child is much sicker than they normally are they should be seeking advice.”</p> <p>Muhammed’s parents hope that by sharing their son’s heartbreaking story, more parents will consider vaccinating their children against the flu annually.</p> <p>“No parents want this to happen to their own children,” Muhammed’s mother Shikin Hasnawi told <em>7News</em>.</p> <p>“We just miss him so much,” his father Segaff Sinin said.</p> <p>The WA government has extended its free flu vaccine rollout to children and seniors until the end of June in an attempt to encourage further uptake of the shot.</p> <p><em>Image credit: 7 News Perth</em></p>

Restaurant under fire for denying entry to war veteran with service dog

<p>A Perth restaurant has been slammed after denying entry to a US war veteran and his service dog.</p> <p>David Pearce and his English Labrador, Gunner, were denied entry to the Chinese restaurant Juice Bao Bao on May 19.</p> <p>Gunner is a certified service dog who assists Pearce through life as he suffers from PTSD, hearing loss and a brain injury.</p> <p>"I tried to explain he's a service dog and they have to allow us in and they said no service dogs, the owner doesn't want any dogs," Pearce said</p> <p>"It was embarrassing, [and] a bit humiliating.”</p> <p>Pearce sustained his injuries while serving in Iraq and Syria.</p> <p>He has served in the US military for nearly 20 years. He and Gunner have been “best buddies” for nine years.</p> <p>"He's saved my life a couple of times," Pearce said.</p> <p>Pearce has launched an official complaint to the Western Australian government following the ordeal.</p> <p>Juice Bao Bao manager Elaine Hsu took responsibility for the decision to refuse entry to Pearce.</p> <p>"That was my personal decision so that's my fault," she told 9News.</p> <p>"We want to sincerely apologise to him and we want to ask him to come here [for a] free meal.</p> <p>"[We will] make sure this [does] not happen again.”</p> <p>The restaurant has received a number of negative reviews since Pearce shared his story.</p> <p>"I'm not really interested in a free meal, although some dumplings would go down really nicely," Pearce said .</p> <p>"I'm just happy that they're changing their policy."</p> <p>Assistance and service dogs are legally allowed to enter any public venue if their certification is displayed on their vest and the owner can provide a service animal ID.</p> <p><em>Image credit: 9News / Nine</em></p>

Teen girl bashed by girls disguised in school uniform

<p>Horrifying footage has emerged showing the moment three girls disguised in uniforms violently attacked a 14-year-old girl on the grounds of a school in Perth’s northern suburbs.</p> <p>The video captured on a mobile phone saw teachers attempting to shield the Year 9 Churchlands Senior High School student as the assailants hit and spat on her.</p> <p>The incident occurred during a lunch break in early May.</p> <p>Students at the school allege the trio accessed school grounds by disguising themselves in Churchlands uniforms.</p> <p>Education department director general Lisa Rodges described the ordeal as unacceptable.</p> <p>“People entering school grounds without permission is taken very seriously and the department works with police when incidents like this occur,” she said.</p> <p>“Principals take immediate action in response to incidents of violence on school grounds.</p> <p>“The students who were involved in this incident, including filming it, have been suspended, and are being considered for exclusion.”</p> <p>Authorities were alerted but the girl at the centre of the attack has since withdrawn her complaint.</p> <p>Premier Mark McGowan said, “I just want to thank the teachers who got right in there to help the victim, and good on them. "You can’t park there, bro”: Perth valet smashes TWO lambos in costly mistake

<p>A valet driver at the Crown Hotel in Perth has found himself in hot water after smashing two Lamborghinis while trying to park one.</p> <p>The luxury vehicles belonged to billionaire Laurence Escalante and both were damaged after they collided in the hotel driveway, a spokesperson for Crown Perth said.</p> <p>Footage captured and shared by Jiu-Jitsu athlete Craig Jones shows the valet driver behind the wheel of a blue Lamborghini Aventador Ultimae, a car valued upward of $940,000, smashing into the rear of a purple Lamborghini.</p> <p>“Help! "He moved it right in his rear ... you can’t park there, bro," he added.</p> <p>A spokesperson for Crown Resorts confirmed the accident is still under investigation, also informing the media there were “no injuries sustained.”</p> <p>"The safety of Crown’s team members and guests remains our priority," they said in a statement to News.com.au. "We are conducting a full assessment of the incident together with those involved.”</p> <p>The Crown is "working positively with us to fix the cars and put this behind us all,” a spokesperson for Mr Escalante told The West Australian. "We appreciate accidents happen and most importantly no one was injured," they said.</p> <p>A similar incident occurred in Sydney in 2018 when a valet driver parked a Porsche Carrera underneath another vehicle. Gina Rinehart dishes out random $100k Christmas bonuses

<p>Australia’s richest person has splashed the cash this Christmas, randomly awarding 10 Roy Hill workers a $100,000 bonus.</p> <p>Mining magnate Gina Rinehart was said to have told employees last week to “stand by for an important announcement”, a source told a Perth radio station on Monday.</p> <p>A caller said that the billionaire “announced the fact that she was going to call 10 names out of a hat”.</p> <p>“Those names would each receive a $100,000 Christmas bonus,” the caller said.</p> <p>An anonymous Roy Hill employee jumped in on Tuesday, confirming that the rumour was legitimate.</p> <p>They added that one of the winners had only been at the firm, which is controlled by Rinehart’s private company Hancock Prospecting, for three months. This left some long-term employees annoyed.</p> <p>Roy Hill was sought after for comments but has so far stayed quiet.</p> <p>The Pilbara operation is a major money-maker for Rinehart, delivering a net profit of $3.2bn for the year to June 30.</p> <p>The figure after tax was 28% weaker compared with 12 months earlier, with the shortfall being attributed to falling iron ore prices.</p> <p>Rinehart, who was born in Perth, is Australia’s richest person with a net worth of $32.6 billion.</p> <p><em>Image: Getty</em></p>

<p dir="ltr">A Perth family has been left disappointed and upset after a Grinch stole their Christmas presents.</p> <p dir="ltr">Sophie Lush-Newman got a notification that the security camera at her Aveley home, in Perth’s northern suburbs, had been triggered.</p> <p dir="ltr">Upon taking a look, she saw a thief covering parts of his face with a jumper as he rode off with $300 worth of Christmas gifts on his bike.</p> <p dir="ltr">The mother was triggered by the unfortunate events which has left her family terrified.</p> <p dir="ltr">“My daughter couldn’t sleep that night or the night after it. They would be flying out of New Zealand to work the mines in Perth, with roughly half of the workforce only working for six months per year.</p> <p>It’s not the first time Australian mines have struggled to find workers for highly-paid roles. Man fined after beating four-month-old puppy

<p dir="ltr">A man from Perth has been found guilty of beating his pet puppy and unleashing verbal threats at an animal welfare inspector.</p> <p dir="ltr">The man, 44, slapped the four-month-old Boerboel named Hank on the head and just five minutes later punched the puppy as many as five times across the face, Joondalup Magistrates Court was told.</p> <p dir="ltr">The two attacks unfolded at the offender’s home in Butler.</p> <p dir="ltr">A witness report and <a href="https://7news.com.au/news/court-justice/butler-man-fined-over-savage-attack-on-pet-boerboel-puppy-threatening-rspca-worker-c-9067569" target="_blank" rel="noopener">video evidence</a> were enough for an RSPCA WA inspector to obtain a warrant and enter the man’s home alongside WA Police.</p> <p dir="ltr">The owner admitted losing his cool at his pet after it had been to the toilet inside the house.</p> <p dir="ltr">Hank was taken into care at the RSPCA’s Malaga animal care centre. Inspector manager Kylie Green said there was never an excuse to physically harm an animal.</p> <p dir="ltr">The man was fined $3000 for the attack on his pet and banned from being in contact with animals for five years.</p> <p dir="ltr">He has also been fined $800 for verbally abusing and threatening an RSPCA inspector and ordered to pay costs of $615.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: RSPCA WA</em></p>

"We are a better country than that": PM condemns "racially motivated" killing

<p dir="ltr"><em>WARNING: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander viewers are warned that the following story contains images of deceased persons.</em></p> <p dir="ltr">The heartbroken mother of Cassius Turvey has thanked Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for condemning the racially motivated brutal murder of her son. </p> <p dir="ltr">The 15-year-old year 9 student was walking home from school in Middle Swan, Perth when he was allegedly viciously attacked by a metal pole by a 21-year-old Jack Steven James Brearley. </p> <p dir="ltr">His head injuries were so severe and Cassius was placed in an induced coma after suffering two strokes and a brain bleed.</p> <p dir="ltr">Unfortunately, Cassius could not pull through from his horrific injuries and passed away on October 23. </p> <p dir="ltr">Mr Albanese condemned the attack and said Australia can do better. </p> <p dir="ltr">“This attack that, clearly, is racially motivated just breaks your heart,” he said. </p> <p dir="ltr">“We are a better country than that, and my heart goes out to the family and the friends.”</p> <p dir="ltr">Cassius’ mother Mechelle Turvey thanked Mr Albanese for his comments and said “it’s the words the country has been waiting for”. </p> <p dir="ltr">"They're just words but they mean so much to us," she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It's like you're on the same page as our hearts."</p> <p dir="ltr">Rallies were held across major cities in Australia and even Los Angeles as they called for justice for Cassius. </p> <p dir="ltr">"He's not just my loss, he's everyone's loss, even people that didn't know him," Michelle continued. </p> <p dir="ltr">"This is the worst thing to happen but this is just amazing, it's just bringing the community together.</p> <p dir="ltr">"This is black and white, you can see the diversity of people here."</p> <p dir="ltr">Jack Steven James Brearley, 21, has been charged with his murder and is due to face a Perth court next month.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Images: Nine</em></p>

Chris Bath breaks down on air after announcing colleague’s death

<p dir="ltr">TV presenter Chris Bath has broken down on air after announcing the news of fellow colleague and journalist Nick Way. </p> <p dir="ltr">Nick Way, a Perth journalist, lost his battle with motor neurone disease at the age of 63 on September 23. </p> <p dir="ltr">The heartbreaking news was shared on Channel Ten’s Sunday evening program, with Chris shedding some tears. </p> <p dir="ltr">“The Ten News First family is mourning revered Perth journalist Nick Way, who has lost his fight with motor neurone disease,” she said.</p> <p dir="ltr">A tribute package was also played, highlighting Nick’s incredible career as a journalist. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Nick Way was a gifted storyteller,” the voiceover said. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Over three decades, he never failed to connect deeply with those he reported on, often staying in close contact with them long after the news cameras had stopped rolling.</p> <p dir="ltr">“His stories shone through even through our darkest chapters, the Bali bombings. Many of the survivors still call Nick a very good friend.</p> <p dir="ltr">“Nick always gave a voice to those who struggled to find their own. Championing so many wonderful causes and when it came to his own health battle, he dug in and raised tens of thousands of dollars for research. </p> <p dir="ltr">“Here at Ten, Nick taught so many the ropes. His beautiful smile and voice we will never forget. </p> <p dir="ltr">“To his wife Karen and loved ones, we are sending our deepest sympathies.”</p> <p dir="ltr">The tribute package ended and the camera cut back to a very emotional Chris who said: “Vale Nick, and our condolences to his family”.</p> <p dir="ltr">Karen, Nick’s wife of 29 years said her husband was staying at a specialised care facility in Cottesloe while she was in New Zealand for her nephew’s wedding. </p> <p dir="ltr">Nick suddenly “had a turn” and died of a suspected blood clot in his lung.</p> <p dir="ltr">“It was like he waited for me to be here in New Zealand to be with all my family and he's made the decision that it's time to go,” Karen told <a href="https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/nick-way-popular-wa-newsman-dies-after-battle-with-with-bulbar-onset-motor-neuron-disease--c-8348221" target="_blank" rel="noopener">The West Australian</a>. </p> <p dir="ltr">“He wanted to stay as independent as he could, but he just couldn't do things for himself anymore and he lost the ability to talk last August. Talking was his favourite thing and he loved being the centre of attention.</p> <p dir="ltr">“But he had a great life, we had so much travel and he did so many things a lot of people never get the opportunity to do. Urgent warning to pet owners in two major cities

<p>A Sydney council has issued a warning after a dog has fallen ill and passed away in the Eastern suburbs, due to a possible poisoning incident.</p> <p>Pet owners all around Sydney, and additionally in Perth, are being warned to look out for dog baiting that’s happening in both the major cities.</p> <p>The beloved dog fell ill last week after returning home from a walk around Bondi, Waverley Council warned.</p> <p>“Rangers visited the area with the owner, who remembers seeing the dog eat something in or near a pile of leaves under a tree on Ocean Street,” a spokesperson told 7NEWS.com.au</p> <p>While the dog’s cause of death has not been confirmed, the council added rangers also found two dead pigeons in the area.</p> <p>“Council has put signage up in the area and is asking dog owners to keep their dogs on a lead and always keep a watchful eye on what their dogs are eating during walks,” they said.</p> <p>“Our thoughts are with the owner of the dog at this very sad and difficult time.”<br />An additional post by a local pet shop warned potential baiting could also be happening across Bondi.</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">Dog owners! Bond banned: What Lazenby said to get him dropped from national tour

<p dir="ltr">Former James Bond star George Lazenby has issued an apology after he was accused of making “creepy” and “disgusting” comments during an interview in Perth.</p> <p dir="ltr">The 83-year-old actor, who was appearing as part of an Australian tour called The Music of James Bond, got up on stage and shocked the audience as they took offence to his "homophobic" comments and explicit anecdotes.</p> <p dir="ltr">Lazenby later said that he was " saddened to hear" that his stories had offended fans and said:</p> <p dir="ltr">"It was never my intention to make hurtful or homophobic comments and I am truly sorry if my stories that I have shared many times were taken that way.”</p> <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"> <p dir="ltr" lang="en">I am sorry and saddened to hear that my stories in Perth on Saturday might have offended some people. I only ever wish to share <a href="https://t.co/zD9jEazNm2">pic.twitter.com/zD9jEazNm2</a></p> <p>— George Lazenby (@lazenbyofficial) <a href="https://twitter.com/lazenbyofficial/status/1569239419693170688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 12, 2022</a></p></blockquote> <p dir="ltr">Lazenby has since been removed from all future performances on the tour.</p> <p dir="ltr">Theatre producer Concertworks said it was "extremely saddened and disappointed" by Lazenby's "language, comments and recollections" throughout Saturday's show in Perth and will provide full refunds for concertgoers.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the meantime, it has "chosen to discontinue its relationship with Mr Lazenby" and has commenced "a thorough review of the matter".</p> <p dir="ltr">According to one audience member, Lazenby spent Saturday's interview "talking about basically his sexual conquests".</p> <p dir="ltr">"He was homophobic, he swore, he certainly wasn't talking about his Bond movies," she told Perth radio station 6PR. "He downplayed the Queen a day after she died," she added.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It was absolutely unbelievable… At one point he named an Australian cricketer whose daughter he was chasing, and he said he dragged the daughter out of a pub and put her in a car in London, which again is of course horrific.</p> <p dir="ltr">"It wasn't even charming, it wasn't even funny. It was creepy, it was offensive... He was disgusting, there's no two ways about it."</p> <p dir="ltr">Another attendee described the interview as the "self-interested misogynistic stories of George Lazenby's sexual prowess, intimate details of diarrhoea and objectification of women."</p> <p dir="ltr">The West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO), who also performed at the show, distanced themselves from the actor in a statement released, reading:</p> <p dir="ltr">"His recollections were personal views that may have reflected a time where such behaviour was tolerated, but has never been acceptable," the orchestra wrote.</p> <p dir="ltr">"His comments were his own and do not reflect our society today. His views are not shared or endorsed by WASO or Perth Concert Hall."</p> <p dir="ltr">Australia's culture minister David Templeman has added: "I understand that the audience made their views clear about the content and good on them.</p> <p dir="ltr"><em>Image: Getty</em></p>
