Queen Camilla "heartbroken" by death of rescue dog

Queen Camilla, who is recovering from a chest infection, has had to make the tough decision of putting her beloved pet dog, Beth, down after she was diagnosed with an untreatable tumour.

The news was revealed by Buckingham Palace in a message shared to social media, which read: "A sad farewell to Beth, the Queen's much-loved companion from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who brought such joy, whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire".

The 77-year-old royal is said to be "heartbroken" by the loss over the weekend.

Beth was rescued by Camilla in 2011, and because she was a rescue, the animal charity was never sure of Beth's age.

The royal later adopted another Jack Russell, Bluebell, soon after getting Beth, when she became patron of Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in 2017, taking over from the late Queen Elizabeth II.

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by The Royal Family (@theroyalfamily)

Recalling the moment she found Bluebell, the Queen previously told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Along I went to Battersea, and Beth appeared, and she had just been moved from pillar to post and dumped.

"We thought it would be nice for her to have a friend. "What did we do?": Bride shares heartbroken reaction to empty wedding

A bride has recalled the devastating moment she made a grand entrance to her wedding, only to discover almost no guests showed up.

Kalina Marie took to TikTok to share the gut-wrenching video of the moment her and her new husband Shane stepped inside the lavishly decorated hall with their son, as they tried to come to terms with the fact that only a handful of people showed to celebrate with them.

“This is our entrance to our Masquerade ball,” Ms Marie, who is from Oregon in the US, wrote in the caption of her clip, which has since amassed over seven million views.

“The Masquerade ball that I have talked EXCESSIVELY about for the last 10 months. The same ball that I not only digitally invited over 75 people to. But ALSO spent money to send 25 beautiful invitations out to."

“FIVE PEOPLE SHOWED UP!!!!!!! Like, are you kidding me!?!? As you see in the video, we enter the venue. And no one is there. The invite said 1pm. My mum messaged me at 1:15pm that no one was there. My husband and I finally showed up at 2 o’clock, to five people, in a venue planned for 40.”

She said she “dreamt” that she would walk into a bunch of people “hooting and hollering” for them, but instead ended up having to “hold herself together” because she had “no idea” how to deal with her venue being almost completely empty.

“All the wasted food and drinks,” Ms Marie continued. “All the empty tables and chairs. Every moment of my reception changed to adapt.”

“It just makes me think, like, why? What did we do? Am I that bad of a person? What did my husband ever do to deserve any of this?” she questioned. “Why couldn’t we matter enough for people to show up?”

She revealed that it makes her “sick” that she still has “friends” who haven’t even messaged her to congratulate her or tell her why they didn’t come, adding, “I honestly can’t wrap my head around this yet.”

The heart-breaking video quickly wrapped up millions of views and comments, with many empathising with the new bride, with one person writing, "This hurts my heart for you."

Thousands of others tried to lighten the mood, praising Ms Marie for how beautiful she looked and vowing to attend a do-over wedding.

“NAH, RE-DO THIS. WE ALL SHOWING UP,” read a top comment, while another wrote, “Let’s do it over. This time invite me and the rest of us. We’ll show up and out. I love you beautiful and congratulations!!”

Family heartbroken after school removes teen's memorial site

Charlotte O'Brien, 12, sadly took her own life on September 9 after experiencing relentless bullying at Santa Sabina College in Strathfield, Sydney.

Following the young schoolgirl's tragic death, her heartbroken family set up a memorial for her on a tree near the school. Her aunt Melinda Rodgers explained it was the only way they could bid farewell to the teen.

“It was something we wanted to do for Charlotte because we didn’t get the opportunity to say goodbye,” she told Nine News.

“It was our special way of giving her something to say you mattered and we miss you.”

The memorial was set up over the weekend, with a small plaque put in place and flowers which began piling up as others started to pay tribute to the 12-year-old.

On Monday afternoon, the memorial site had been removed. The family first realised this when they saw Charlotte's grandfather, who had previously left flowers at the site, “wandering aimlessly up and down the street … trying to find the memorial site to lay his flowers”

“Words cannot express how devastated we were,” Rodgers said, after finding out the memorial site had been removed.

Paulina Skerman the principal of the school, confirmed they had removed the memorial “because of concerns that were raised about the impact this could have on young people”.

She explained that the school was “with Charlotte’s family to find a permanent and loving way to remember Charlotte” and promised the 12-year-old would “not be forgotten”.

Despite the school's explanation, Charlotte's father Mat, said he was “running out of words” to describe his feelings about the situation.

“From the school’s perspective, If I was given advice to remove those things, I wouldn’t have touched them,” he said, adding it would be a "positive step" for the school to put up a permanent memorial to his daughter.

Her parents had previously opened up about how disappointed they were in the school for reportedly showing "no empathy" during their 20-minute meeting with the principal, following Charlotte's death.

“We arrived there and met with the principal. When I shared the feedback, she wasn’t interested in receiving that. The feedback was interrupted. It was discounted. It was disagreed with," Mat said at the time.

Need to talk to someone? "Heartbroken": Sacked Rex Airlines hostess speaks out

A “devastated” and “heartbroken” Rex Airlines flight attendant has spoken out after the regional airline entered voluntary administration.

Following the shock decision, 350 staff from the airline were made redundant and told they would not be paid any wages or redundancy packages for months.

While many frustrated travellers took to Rex's Facebook page to complain about their flights being cancelled at the last minute with no notice, one cabin crew member called for calm and understanding.

Air hostess Layla Rackley issued a reality check in the comments, writing, “I know this is so frustrating but the Rex staff, including myself, have lost our jobs very unexpectedly and we are all heartbroken.”

“I hope your flights get sorted.”

Another Rex flight attendant Makayla Meagher said on social media that she was “devastated” and it was something she thought would never have happened.

“Im so grateful for all the friends i have made along the way,” she said. “Please keep Rex staff in your prayers.”

Administrator Sam Freeman said regional flights were unaffected and would continue to operate, but domestic 737 services were grounded.

“Virgin Australia are offering impacted Rex passengers free of charge rebooking,” he said.

In the wake of the airline's collapse, competing Aussie airline Virgin wrote on their website, "Virgin Australia is also offering support to Rex employees who may be impacted by today’s announcement."

"People whose employment has been affected should visit the expression of interest form on our website to apply for open positions."

"Take it back to her”: Parents' heartbroken plea to thieves who targeted their daughter's grave

When three-year-old Brittany Conway died after swelling a button battery, news of her death made headlines and prompted urgent warnings to parents everywhere.

Now, just one month out from the four-year anniversary of Brittany's death, her parents are grieving all over again after their daughter's grave was targeted by callous thieves, who took off with a "precious" keepsake.

“She was a vivacious little girl, there was a sparkle in her eye,” Brittany’s mother Lorraine told 7News. “She was a very loving, gentle, funny character.”

Brittany’s love of tiaras was immortalised when one was placed inside a locked glass-front box attached to her grave.

“Brittany loved wearing big bows and pretty dresses, she loved the tiaras and high heels,” Lorraine said.

“We just wanted her to know she was our little princess.”

Brittany's parents were heartbroken when they discovered that thieves had pried open the lockbox on the grave and stolen the tiara.

“I was so angry to think someone had taken something so precious, taken it out of somewhere so sacred,” Lorraine said.

The local Gold Coast community has rallied around the family, offering to replace the tiara and even reward money for the beloved item to be returned.

Brittany’s parents are still hoping the tiara will be returned, and sharing a public message to the thief that they “did not hate them” for what they had done, but urged them to give the item back.

“I’m still angry, I’m hurt, but my main thing now is to get (the tiara) home, and bring it back to Brittany where it belongs,” Lorraine said.

“They haven’t thought about how much of an impact it has had on the family."

“If you’re watching this, and you’ve taken it, I don’t hate you — just take it back to her.”

"Heartbroken and blindsided": The Beast's ex-girlfriend opens up about split

The ex-girlfriend of The Chase star Mark Labbett, also known as The Beast, has opened up about her high-profile break-up with the TV star, slamming his behaviour in the last weeks of their relationship.

Hayley Palmer, an entertainment news presenter, announced her split from Labbett just days after their one year anniversary, sharing the news on Instagram in May.

Now, in an interview with The Sun newspaper, Palmer took aim at Labbett and his alleged handling of their split, saying she had been “blindsided” by their break-up, and shared how he had lived up to his name as The Beast.

“It has come as a complete shock. I thought we were really happy,” she said.

“I’m heartbroken and blindsided. His behaviour has been beastly.”

Palmer went on to say that Labbett dumped her over a callous three-minute phone call, and said their breakup came because The Beast did not want to formally divorce his ex-wife Katie, who is also his second cousin.

She went on to say that before their shock split, Mark — who has a seven-year-old son with his former wife — had even suggested they move in together.

But in the days following, a phone call came from Labbett to end their relationship.

Struggling to hold back tears, Hayley told the publication, “The call started off as a normal conversation. He was spending time with his son and we’d had a conversation about me joining them at a water park."

“Then he said, ‘I don’t know how to tell you this, but you were right. I don’t want to divorce my ex-wife’.

“The shock of the way he said it was so brutally cold and not the Mark I know. I thought he was a gentle giant, so this was the complete opposite. He was as cold as ice."

“The phone went from my hands, I just hung up on him. I ended up walking around for three hours not knowing where I was going."

“I’ll never get over the shock of that, I’m still in shock now. It’s such a hurtful way to do it. The fact that he didn’t have the respect for me, and for him to do it over the phone — it was a really low move."

Samantha Murphy’s heartbroken family mark first birthday without her

In a heart-wrenching saga that has gripped the community of Ballarat and beyond, the disappearance of Samantha Murphy continues to haunt her husband, Michael Murphy, and all those who knew her.

Two months have passed since Samantha vanished without a trace, leaving behind a void that cannot be filled. As the days stretch into weeks and the weeks into months, Michael clings to hope, fervently believing that one day Samantha's body will be found, bringing closure to this harrowing ordeal.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, Michael expressed the pain of his daily reality, where the absence of Samantha looms large. Despite his grief, he strives to maintain a semblance of optimism, eagerly awaiting any glimmer of positive news from the ongoing police investigation. Yet, as time wears on and the investigation inches forward, the anguish only deepens.

The arrest and charging of 22-year-old Patrick Stephenson with Samantha's murder provided a brief moment of reckoning. However, since then, the progress has been slow, and Michael understands that justice may elude them until Stephenson chooses to cooperate. Acknowledging the arduous nature of the legal process, Michael remains steadfast in his support for the detectives tirelessly working on Samantha's case.

August 8 looms on the horizon as the date when Stephenson is slated to appear before the Ballarat Magistrates' Court. For Michael and the Murphy family, it's a pivotal moment in their quest for justice, a step towards closure in a saga fraught with uncertainty.

For Michael, the passing of milestones like Samantha's birthday – she would have turned 52 on Saturday – serves as a stark reminder of her absence. The pain of marking such occasions without her presence is a burden he carries with stoicism, determined to navigate life's challenges for the sake of his family.

“It’s the first things," Michael told the Herald Sun. "The first birthday without Sam … any anniversaries without Sam. That’s a hard thing but we’ve gotta face reality and realise she’s just not coming back ... I need to be strong myself and look after everyone around me.”

The timeline of events leading to Samantha's disappearance remains etched in the minds of those who knew her. Two months ago, she was captured on CCTV, embarking on her routine morning run around Woowookarung Regional Park. Little did anyone know that it would be the last sighting of her, plunging her loved ones into a nightmare from which they are yet to awaken.

The community's response to Samantha's disappearance has been one of unwavering solidarity. During the initial days, emergency services and local volunteers mobilised in a coordinated effort to search for any trace of her. Their commitment to finding Samantha has not waned, as evidenced by ongoing searches organised by community groups like the Ground Crew.

While the road ahead may be fraught with challenges, the community's commitment to finding Samantha remains resolute. As they continue their search for answers, they do so with the unwavering belief that Samantha Murphy will not be forgotten, and that one day, her family will find the closure they so desperately seek.

Images: Nine

Dr Ash Gordon's heartbroken parents have spoken out about the moment they found out their son had died.

The Melbourne GP was allegedly killed after confronting two teenage boys who had allegedly broken into his home in Doncaster in the early hours on Saturday, January 13.

Dr Gordon’s grieving mother Catherine, recalled the moment she was woken by the phone call no parent wants to receive.

“He said that Ashley had gone. And I said gone where? He’s gone. He’s no longer with us,” Mrs Gordon told A Current Affair about the moment her son's housemate delivered the devastating news.

“I said, ‘Don’t lie, you’re joking.‘ And I hung up on him."

Holding back tears, Mrs Gordon also shared the denial she went through as she received the call from a detective.

"Then the detective rang and I told him that I didn’t believe him, and he said 'how can I get you to believe?', I said 'until there is a police person in uniform in front of me, it's not happening'"

"Well you don't want to believe do you?" A Current Affair host Ally Langdon replied, and both parents shook their heads.

“We saw the police car coming up, and I just prayed to God they’d just keep going. I didn’t want them to turn into the driveway, but unfortunately, it happened.”

Ally Langdon who was brought to tears during the interview added: “It’s a cruel contrast isn’t it? That Ash has dedicated his life to saving lives, yet his was taken in this horrible way."

The 33-year-old doctor was found by police less than a kilometre from his home, but unfortunately he died at the scene.

In the days following the incident, two 16-year-old boys with Dr Gordon’s murder as well as aggravated burglary and theft.

Dr Gordon's family have since held a memorial service for him to honour the slain doctor.

Image: A Current Affair

"I was heartbroken": Why Sam Kerr had to hide her gender

Sam Kerr is known as one of the greatest strikers in women's football. And now, with the Matlidas on the way to the World Cup semifinals, we are learning more and more about the challenges Kerr faced as a junior Aussie Rules player in South Fremantle, WA

Kerr, who grew up in East Fremantle, south of Perth, did not have an easy start to what would be an exceptional football career, as she initially started playing for the boys' team when she was around five or six.

Kerr, was the only girl who played junior Australian rules football for South Fremantle, but that didn't deter her from fulfilling her dreams.

“I knew I’d be the only girl on the team but that didn’t worry me at all,” she wrote in her new book My Journey to the World Cup.

Kerr said that her teammates assumed she was a boy because she had “short hair and blonde tips”, but didn't do anything to correct them as she was comfortable with it.

So she decided to keep her gender a secret.

"I didn’t want them to treat me any differently just because I was a girl," she said.

“I remember one of the boys crying when he found out.

“But as good as I was out on the field, and as much as I loved playing the game, the physical differences between the guys and me eventually became too pronounced and the play was too rough," she added.

“One day, I came home from a game with yet another black eye and bloody lip, and that’s when my dad and brother both said, ‘Nup, this isn’t happening anymore’.

“I was getting battered around so much out on the field that it was getting to be a big problem. Dad and my coach both sat me down then and said it was getting far too dangerous for me to continue to play," she said.

Kerr revealed that she was devastated that she wasn't allowed to play football anymore because there were no girls' teams in her area for her to join.

“They said they were sorry, but that I wasn’t allowed to play football any more. I understood the reasons why, but I was heartbroken.

"Back then, there were no girls’ teams in my area for me to join, and to know that I’d never play a sport that I loved so much ever again was devastating.”

By the age of 12, she switched to association football, but a year later she was spotted by Perth Glory striker Bobby Despotovski who has fascinated by her raw talent and athleticism.

By the age of 15 she made her professional soccer debut and earned her maiden Matildas cap and the rest is history.

Images: Ryan Pierse Getty Images/ Nine

"Heartbroken": High-profile women react to landmark Roe v Wade decision

When the US Supreme Court made the landmark decision to overturn Roe v. Wade on Friday June 24, women across America and all around the world took to social media to express their anger, disgust, sadness and outrage.

A range of celebrities and high-profile women spoke out over the decision, as they grieved the loss of fundamental women's right and bodily autonomy in the eyes of the law.

Roe v. Wade was implemented to grant women in the US the constitutional right to terminate a pregnancy, regardless of their reasoning.

The landmark abortion ruling, which has been in place since 1973, was officially overturned last week, meaning individual states in America now have the right to ban women from seeking legal abortions – which several states have now already done.

Australian model Robyn Lawley made a statement on her Instagram as she wrote on her torso, "My body my choice".

The model shared her disgust for the ruling, while also empathising with women living the US of the challenges they are about to face.
<blockquote class="instagram-media" style="background: #FFF; Heartbroken dad opens up on losing daughter in campsite tragedy

An Australian family has been left picking up the pieces of their life after seven-year-old Khaleesi Roser died in a freak accident during a family adventure in the Northern Territory.

Khaleesi and her family had just arrived at a campsite in Central Australia when she fell from their Nissan Patrol while it was still in motion.

Her dad, Kim Roser, told 7News the kids had just jumped in the car to go get water when the tragic incident occurred.

“The kids jumped in the car and we went to get water and I don’t know what happened, I think she tried to jump out the window before the car stopped to be the first open the gate,” he recalled.

“We would’ve been doing 15km/h or slower … my 13-year-old daughter was sitting beside her and my friend was sitting there too and I just hear him yell, ‘Kahleesi’ and I just looked back and got out and ran to her.

“She had blood coming out her ears, she was all twisted up. I don’t know if her head knocked the wheel or what happened.

“I just scooped her up and drove as fast as I could to get help.”

Being in the remote outback, the family had no reception and had to go on a mad dash for help.

“All I could do was hold my little girl’s hand and look into her eyes and say, ‘Kahleesi, just look into my eyes baby’ and say ‘I love you, you’re a big girl. You’re tough, it’s OK’,” Roser said.

According to NT Police, the group was travelling 25km east of Harts Range on June 5 when Kahleesi fell.

She was taken to the Harts Range medical clinic before being flown to the Adelaide Women’s and Children’s Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

A spokesperson for NT Police told 7News the matter was still under investigation.

Since the tragedy, Mr Roser, a single dad, has been trying to make sense of the tragedy while keeping his family together.

“It’s just been the kids and I,” he said. “I w

as with the kids every day of the week, every minute. Kahleesi was the youngest.

“Her sister was like a mum to her. They’d sleep together all the time like best friends. It’s hit her hard, too.

“We just want to wake up from this nightmare.”

As the family navigate their heartbreak, Kahleesi’s legacy will continue.

“She donated all her organs to save other kids’ lives - she would’ve wanted that,” Roser said.

“I just know that’s what kind of person she was and she’d say, ‘Dad, if I can save other people’s lives, do it’.

“She was just like me, a mini me - I’d do anything for anybody too.”

A fundraiser has also been set up by a friend of the family to help them cover funeral expenses.

Image: GoFundMe
