Woman horrified after man brings his mother to first date

A woman has been left stunned after her crush invited his mother to infiltrate their first date.

The young woman took to Reddit to recall the mortifying moment, and to ask users if she was out of line by leaving the awkward date.

The 23-year-old began the story by explaining how she matched with a 25-year-old man, who she referred to as Jake, on the dating app Hinge.

She explained that the couple had been “chatting for a few weeks, and he seemed like a solid guy — funny, good taste in music, and even remembered I loved Italian food.”

“He planned the date at this nice little spot in Dallas, which I thought was sweet,” she added.

She continued, “I show up, and everything's fine at first. He's already there, we hug, and he even complimented my outfit.”

“But like five minutes after I sit down, this older woman walks in. Jake stands up, waves her over, and says, ‘This is my mom!’ 'I thought I misheard him for a second.”

After he introduced his mother to his date, she pulled up a chair and began asking the 23-year-old a slew of invasive questions.

“She sits down at the table, all casual, and starts introducing herself to me like this is normal. Meanwhile, I'm sitting there, trying to figure out if I'm being pranked. I kind of laugh nervously and say, ‘Oh, I didn't know you were bringing anyone,’ and he goes, ‘Oh, she just wanted to meet you. Don't worry—it's not a big deal’.”

“But it was a big deal because she didn't just stop by to say hi — she ordered wine and stayed. The whole time, she's asking me these personal questions about my job, my family, even if I want kids someday.”

“It was like an interview, not a date. Jake barely said anything. He just smiled and kept nodding like this was all normal,” she revealed.

The woman then shared that after 20 minutes of the awkward encounter, she decided to leave, and texted Jake that same evening to say she didn’t want to go on another date.

She said, “I couldn't take it anymore. I said I wasn't feeling great and needed to leave. I texted him later, saying I didn't think it would work out and wished him well.”

Although she thought she did the right thing, she began doubting her decision and questioned if she was in the wrong.

The 23-year-old concluded the post by asking, '”Now I feel kind of bad. My roommate says I did the right thing because honestly, who brings their mom to a first date? But my coworker said it was rude to just leave and that maybe his mom was just super close to him or nervous for him or whatever. Was I wrong for walking out?”

Reddit users flocked to the comments section and ran to her defence as they slammed Jake for bringing his mother along on the date.

One person said, “It's absurd that he would bring her. Unless she needs constant supervision due to some health issue. That is a very strange dynamic. You did what most anyone else would have done. Best of luck.”

"I was shaking": Grandmother targeted in horrifying carjacking

A Melbourne grandmother has been left "terribly shaken" after she was targeted in a carjacking in broad daylight.

Fay Elisha, 76, had been doing her shopping in Malvern, in Melbourne's south-east, on Monday afternoon when she noticed an "agitated" man who was heckling a group of construction workers.

When she got in her car to leave the shopping centre, the grandmother said she was startled when the man began to run towards her and yelled at her to get out of her car.

“My eyes froze, my feet froze, I just stood there,” she told 7News. “I just did as I was told, got out of the car, terribly shaken."

“He got me by the T-shirt I was wearing, around the neck and just pulled me out because I wasn’t going fast enough.”

The carjacker took off in Ms Elisha's Lexus, with witnesses capturing the moment the car rammed other cars on the street that were in the way.

Shaken from the incident, Ms Elisha headed into her regular dentist surgery, which is across the road from where the incident occurred, where she was comforted by staff.

“I was shaking inside the dental surgery,” she said. “They (the staff) really looked after me.”

Police were able to track the carjacker's journey thanks to Ms Elisha's phone, which had been left in the car, which led officers just 2.5km down the road where the offender abandoned the car and tried to break into a home.

Elisha said the ordeal was “horrible” and “frightening” but that she was thankful her grandchildren weren’t in the car at the time.

“That would’ve been the worst-case scenario for me,” she said. “That would’ve been horrendous.”

"His family was horrified": Young man jumps off cruise ship

What was meant to be a voyage of leisure and joy turned into a nightmare in the early hours of Thursday morning when a young man made a fateful decision to leap overboard, leaving passengers and crew stunned and grieving.

The incident occurred as Royal Caribbean's colossal 18-storey Liberty of the Seas cruise ship navigated the waters between Cuba and the Bahamas' Grand Inagua Island. According to the New York Post, witnesses recounted the harrowing scene: a young man took a spontaneous plunge from one of the ship's decks, despite the desperate pleas and helplessness of his father and brother who stood witness to the impulsive act.

Passengers onboard shared their accounts, describing the chilling moments leading up to the tragedy. Bryan Sims, one of the witnesses, told the New York Post he had spent time with the young man and his brother in the ship's hot tub until the early hours of the morning. "He was pretty drunk," Sims said, noting the jovial atmosphere that abruptly transformed into shock and chaos.

The young man's declaration to his father, followed by his abrupt jump, left bystanders reeling in disbelief: “As we were walking from the hot tub back to the elevators, his dad and brother were walking towards us," Sims continued. "His dad was fussing at him for being drunk, I guess. When we got to them, he said to his dad, ‘I’ll fix this right now.’ And he jumped out the window in front of us all.”

Deborah Morrison, another passenger, echoed the sentiments of shock and horror that rippled through the ship. "His family was horrified. Just beside themselves," she recounted. “There was a lot of yelling, and the crew was alerted immediately.”

In a statement addressing the tragic incident, Royal Caribbean affirmed its commitment to providing support to the family, while respecting their privacy during this difficult time.

Amy Phelps Fouse, another passenger onboard, attested to the sombre atmosphere that enveloped the ship in the wake of the tragedy. Despite the uncertainty that lingered, she commended Royal Caribbean for their transparency and compassionate response to the situation.

More to come.

Image: Royal Caribbean

Horrifying moment plane crashes in gender reveal stunt

A gender reveal party in Mexico has ended in tragedy after the stunt plane crashed killing the pilot.

The video, filmed by a party guest, showed an expecting couple smiling as they waited for the plane to ascend and perform the reveal.

The pair stood in front of a sign that read: "Oh baby!" as the small plane approached them releasing pink smoke, signalling to the couple that they are having a girl.

Tragedy struck when the pilot pulled the Piper PA-25-235 Pawnee aircraft upwards and the left wing suddenly gave way, sending aircraft into a tailspin, ultimately leading to the fatal crash.

The Sun reported that the attendees seemed oblivious to the crash as they continued to celebrate the gender reveal.

Pilot killed after his Piper PA-25 left wing failed at a gender reveal party in the town of San Pedro, Mexico. pic.twitter.com/6JILK7fsGm

— Breaking Aviation News & Videos (@aviationbrk) September 3, 2023

Later on, graphic photos of the horrendous aftermath emerged showing the 32-year-old pilot, Luis Angel N., lying in the wreckage of the plane before he was rushed to hospital where he unfortunately passed away, according to local media reports.

A few other photos of the wreckage has also been posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, with a few people rushing to get the pilot out.

Footage of the gender reveal party has since gone viral, with viewers sharing their condolences to the pilot, while others slammed the "extreme gender reveals".

"The way the camera panned back to the couple with not the slightest care in the world for the pilot is sad," one commented.

“Why do they have to do such extreme gender reveals lately? Why can’t they just settle for something simple?” added another.

“It looks like he over stressed the aircraft. I wonder if he was above safe manoeuvring speed? "Disgustingly sick": Family's horrifying find in rental home

A family of six have been forced to move out of their rental home after discovering it had disturbing levels of meth residue.

The family became “disgustingly sick” after moving into the home located in Sandstone Point Queensland and were told to pay for toxicity testing and decontamination by their real estate agency.

What the tests revealed shocked them, with dangerous levels of methamphetamine residue found in the lounge room, bedrooms, bathrooms and, worst of all, the space used as a toy room for their children.

“(It was) basically everywhere,” Queensland mum Emily Thornton told 7News.

She added that it was "disgusting" to know that her four kids played in that toxic environment.

According to the Clandestine Drug Laboratory Remediation Guidelines, a safe level of meth residue is below 0.5 micrograms per 100 sq cm.

Their house had 1.3 micrograms per 100 sq cm - which is reportedly enough to put people's lives at risk.

The house was allegedly once used as a meth lab, and the family only got it tested for toxicity when a neighbour, who was suspicious of the previous tenants, flagged the possibility.

Now, the family has been left homeless.

“We’re not allowed in there,” Thornton said.

“Basically, we’re starting from scratch — we’ve got nothing, absolutely nothing at all.”

Thornton also added that her family first started feeling sick shortly after they moved in.

“We moved in, (and) we lived here for a little while, (and then) everyone started getting sick,” she said.

“We were told by the neighbours that they suspected something going on here, so we decided to contact a company to get them to come out and do some testing, and the testing came back positive for meth.”

“They’ve told us just to get out, we’ve just taken what we’ve got and walked out the door.”

On top of being homeless, the family had to pay $500 for the toxicity and decontamination testing as both the agent and landlord refused to help them pay to get the home tested.

“They weren’t interested, and it was up to us to do it if we wanted to do it," Thorton said.

7News reported that the real estate agency will ensure that the property is decontaminated, but the family will still have to pay the cost of an emergency accommodation.

“We just don’t know what we’re going to do. We don’t have the money to pay for it,” Thornton said.

Australian Meth Alerts spokesperson David Pie said that Meth residue is a common problem that often gets ignored as the contamination is odourless and invisible to the human eye.

“It is a well-known fact within the real estate industry with property managers that this is a real issue," he said.

“It’s out of control … and it’s just getting ignored,” he added,

“In the worst instances, it can cause death, in particular among young kids. But it creates anger and sleeping problems — it just goes on and on and on.”

He also said that it was "wrong" for Thornton's family to pay out-of-pocket for the tests.

Image: 7News

Family horrified by police statement on tasering of Clare Nowland

The family of 95-year-old Clare Nowland, who tragically passed away after being tasered at an aged care home in regional NSW, have been shown distressing new details of the incident that were revealed in a police officer's court briefing.

Senior Constable Kristian White, who served in the NSW Police Force for 12 years, was charged in connection with the tasering incident that resulted in the injury of Nowland at the Yallambee Lodge aged care home in Cooma in May. He has been suspended from duty since the incident and faces charges of recklessly causing grievous bodily harm, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and common assault.

According to the police statement of facts, White allegedly made the statement, "See you are going to get tasered," to Nowland after activating a warning arc, which demonstrated the electrical arc produced by the device.

He purportedly then followed this with the words, "Clare stop."

At the time, Nowland was holding a knife and was positioned approximately two metres away from another officer.

White then allegedly uttered, "Stop just... na bugger it," before deploying the taser. As a result, Nowland, still clutching her walking frame, fell backwards and hit her head forcefully on the wooden floor.

Upon being taken to Cooma Hospital, it was discovered that Nowland had suffered an inoperable brain bleed, which ultimately led to her passing.

The standard operating procedures of the NSW Police explicitly state that the taser should not be used against elderly or disabled individuals unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

Following a bail hearing at the Supreme Court, the family of Nowland received a copy of the police facts sheet, which was subsequently released to the public. They have requested privacy and space as they process the provided information, as expressed by their solicitor, Sam Tierney, who described the facts alleged against White as "extremely confronting and shocking".

As part of the conditions set during Tuesday's bail hearing, White is required to maintain good behaviour, attend court as directed, and refrain from contacting Nowland's family or prosecution witnesses, except through legal representation. These conditions were not contested by White or his legal team.

No plea has been entered for any of the charges against White, and the case is scheduled to be heard again at Cooma Local Court on September 6.

Images: NSW Police

“Those attackers will be after me. I know they will.”: Horrifying social media trend leaves woman scared to shop alone

A disturbing social media trend is prompting teenagers to attack unsuspecting victims in public while others record the violence.

Videos of the attack involving South Australian teenagers were posted in Facebook groups where members are encouraged to continue the violence and upload more footage.

In one video, a woman shopping at a Woolworths store is brutally assaulted by a teenage girl as her friend records and encourages the beating.

In the video, the teenage girls can be seen strolling into the supermarket before picking a target - Jessica Burke, an unsuspecting shopper who happened to walk in front of the girls with her trolley.

“Bash the s*** girl, bash her,” the girl recording says to her friend.

The violent attack then begins with the teenager grabbing Ms Burke by the hair; dragging her to her knees.

After Burke is on the ground, the teenager proceeds to kick and punch her in the head repeatedly in front of horrified shoppers, including children screaming in fear.

To see the harrowing footage in full, head here. Caution: disturbing footage; viewer discretion advised.

The woman suffered injuries to her head but says the psychological effects have been the most painful.

“I can't go down to the shops like Woolies, Coles or Big W without someone with me because I'm too scared,” Ms Burke told 9News.

"Those attackers will be after me. I know they will.”

Several other videos online show the same attacker to be the main offender, assaulting other teenagers in parking lots and in the street.

South Australian Police commissioner, Greg Stevens, said people encouraging the violence can also be charged, not just the attacker.

“It is an offence to incite an offence,” he said.

“If people are actively engaging in an activity that encourages other people to commit a crime then they can be held accountable for that.”

Some local residents believe that even though the teenagers are being charged, they are then released on bail.

“These days it's just a slap on the wrist and send you on your way,” Ms Burke's partner, Tarquin Gray said.

“The system has just gone backwards.”

“It is very complex and it is made more complex when it involves young people committing offences,' Mr Stevens said.

Bridesmaid "horrifies" viewers with "cringe" wedding speech

A "horrifying" wedding speech has gone viral online, as a bridesmaid delivered an "awkward" toast to her friend and her new husband.

The video, which was originally posted on TikTok, has racked up hundreds of thousands of views, shows a bridesmaid named Shannon standing in front of the congregation to toast the newlyweds.

In what should have been an emotional, wholesome speech, it instead got off to a bad start when she appeared to forget how long she's known the bride for.

“Hi, I’m Shannon, I’ve known Tracy for...oh god...” she started, before a voice off-camera suggests it’s been nine years.

“I don’t quite know Anthony that well,” the woman continued, alluding to the groom.

“But Tracy talks about you non-stop. She’d be like ‘Oh, Anthony this, Anthony that’, and I’m like, ‘I don’t care’.”

Shannon's fake eye-roll didn't get a laugh from the crowd, as she insisted, "Just kidding!"

What…the hell…did I just watch? pic.twitter.com/smfqexmcsz

— chris evans (@notcapnamerica) October 26, 2022

She continued, “You guys are so cute together.”

After telling the groom he’d “better take care of my girl”, Shannon turned to the crowd and said, “I’m not gonna be racist, guys, I’m just saying.”

“You guys are outstepping the stereotype and I love it."

“You guys, I swear, I love Black people. You guys. Are. The. Parents horrified at Halloween decorations

Parents in a Sydney suburb have questioned a family’s Halloween decorations resembling The Handmaid’s Tale in quite a disturbing way.

Images shared to Facebook show a fake body in the show’s iconic red dress and white bonnet, while a male character is dressed in blue.

Both bodies were seen hanging by their necks on the porch, in reference to the show in which people were killed when they disobeyed the rules.

There was also fake blood smeared on the outside of the house reading, “Nolite te bastardes carborundorum” which translates to, “Don’t let the b******* grind you down”.

Social media users were divided at the decorations with many pointing out that it is inappropriate for children to see.

“Imagine children seeing this walking past,” one comment read.

“Not good; totally inappropriate,” another wrote.

“That’s horrible! Kids will be scared,” someone else commented.

Others however defended the decorations saying it is the spirit of Halloween and people are encouraged to go all out with costumes.

“OMG it’s Halloween, get over it, some of y’all need to lighten up,” someone wrote.

“While we’re on the topic – how freckin good is Handmaid’s this season,” another fan wrote.

The Handmaid’s Tale is an American dystopian television series based on the 1985 novel of the same name by Canadian author Margaret Atwood.

It tells the story of June, played by Elisabeth Moss, who is forced into sexual slavery struggles to survive in a totalitarian, fundamentalist society in what used to be the United States.

Image: Facebook

It was then trying to shake from side to side to tear part of me away,” he said.

“It all happened very quickly, and I just did a kick onto part of it and a thrust down on my hands to push it off me - and hit it pretty hard with the palms of my hands, and it went.”

After fighting off the shark and swimming to shore, Wrathall's injuries were severe.

He was left with a broken hip, one leg paralysed and had gaping bite wounds from his groin to his buttocks.

“In the ambulance, I did die, most likely from blood loss, and I’m very thankful to the ambulance officers for bringing me back,” he said.

Wrathall nearly died in hospital from his injuries and was unconscious for two days as trauma surgeons rushed to save him.

“I’m very happy to be here and I can’t thank you enough for all you and the people in this hospital have done for me,” he said.

Ironically, Wrathall used to swim in the ocean but switched to the river as he wanted to avoid sharks.

Despite the fact it may be almost two years before he can walk again as his sciatic nerve was severed in two places, Wrathall is just thankful to be alive.

Baby suffers horrifying side effects from steroid cream

A mum has been left horrified after her baby doubled in size and grew hair on her face from a steroid cream she was given to treat dry skin.

The parents sought medical treatment for the five-month-old girl after she ballooned to 11 kilograms.

Doctors ran a number of tests after the young girl was rushed to the hospital in China to find out exactly what was causing the weight gain.

Medics said they were taken aback when the parents revealed the only food she was consuming was her mother's breast milk, which was tested and found to be normal.

The problem was becoming increasingly worse a month later, despite doctors asking the parents to reduce the child's food intake.

She had swelled to double her size and grown dark hair on her forehead and cheeks.

After another visit to the hospital, the baby was taken to a specialist unit where a nurse noted that four other babies had been suffering from the same symptoms.

When the mother was asked if she had applied any creams on her daughter, she responded with "Yifulin", the cream she had been using to treat her daughter's dry skin.

After examining the product, they realised it contained 30mg of clobetasol propionate, which doctors say should only be used for a short amount of time.

The five-month-old was using the product for a minimum of two months before the side effects began to take place.

The lotion has since been removed from shelves in China after other parents came forward to complain about its side effects.

According to the doctors treating the baby girl will be difficult and the hair growth may take several years to fall out.

Carrie Bickmore’s horrifying discovery: “What did you do?”

There is nothing sweeter than a child giving a special drawing made just for you – however Carrie Bickmore was less than happy when she found out her 22-month-old toddler had taken a sharpie pen to her fabric couch.

In a hilarious video posted to her Instagram Carrie can be heard asking the toddler: “What did you do?”

“Drawn,” Adelaide replied, pointing to the couch.

“I know you’re drawing, but not with the Sharpie!” The Project host incredulously responded.

In the caption of the post Carrie wrote that she had left the room to do an interview while Adelaide “got creative in the other room”.

“Who left the Sharpie lying around?” she added. “How do I remove?”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Carrie Bickmore (@bickmorecarrie) on Sep 29, 2020 at 8:46pm PDT

Carrie’s post soon got hundreds of comments, with hundreds of her followers both empathising and offering easy solutions.

“Apparently milk works, haven’t tried it though,” one person wrote.

Another added: “Try hairspray and dabbing with paper towel.
