Molly the Magpie is going home!

Molly the magpie, who captured the hearts of thousands with her unlikely friendship with Peggy the English Staffy, is set to be reunited with her former carers. The saga that ensued following Molly's removal from her home on the Gold Coast sparked outrage and activism, ultimately leading to this joyous moment.

The story began when wildlife officials removed Molly from the residence of Reece Mortensen and Juliette Wells on March 1, citing complaints of illegal possession. This decision triggered a wave of support from the community, who were moved by the bond shared between Molly, Peggy, and another dog, Ruby. Videos and photos showcasing the trio's companionship had gained significant attention on social media platforms, turning Molly into an online sensation.

Premier Steven Miles initially voiced his support for Molly's return, acknowledging the unique circumstances and the strong emotional bond between the animals. However, as Mortensen and Wells struggled to navigate bureaucratic hurdles in their quest to bring Molly home, frustration mounted. Despite assurances from the Premier, their attempts to seek further assistance seemed to fall on deaf ears, leaving them feeling abandoned.

But just when hope seemed to be dwindling, a surprise announcement came from Premier Miles on Wednesday morning. He revealed that Molly would indeed be returning to her former carers, citing advice from the Department of Environment and Science and Innovation. The necessary arrangements for securing the appropriate license were underway, ensuring that Molly could come home "very soon".

“This morning the Department has advised me that the couple can secure the appropriate licence. The team will work with them now to do that,” Miles said in a statement. “It’s good news and means Molly can come home very soon. I’d like to thank everyone who has written to me to share their concerns and advocate for Molly’s return.”

This development marks a victory for animal advocacy and grassroots activism. Over 154,000 Australians had signed an online petition calling for Molly's reunion with Peggy, reflecting widespread concern for the emotional wellbeing of both the dog and the magpie. Many saw the situation as an example of "bureaucracy gone mad".

As Molly prepares to spread her wings once more in the familiar company of Peggy and Ruby, we cannot wait to see and hear the footage of their upcoming reunion!

Images: Instagram | Wiki Commons

"Move over": Vyleen White's daughter slams Queensland premier

The grieving daughter of Vyleen White, who was fatally stabbed in a shopping centre car park, has slammed the Queensland premier over his comments claiming her mother's death could not have been prevented.

A 16-year-old boy from Bellbird Park has been charged with murder, with four other teenagers charged with the unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

Following the tragic incident, White's daughter, Cindy Micallef joined the Queensland African Communities Council (QACC) to call for "peace" and more action against youth violence, following reports of abuse and harassment towards the African-Australian community.

Micallef said that while her family had been "torn apart from the heart", she did not want the community to react in anger.

"Mum's legacy will live on in peace. She was never one to be prejudiced, she always looked for the best in people," she said at a media conference in Redbank Plains.

Micallef has also called on Queensland Premier Steven Miles to take stronger action on crime prevention.

"He promised to protect the community and make changes," she told the press conference. "There's no substance to what he says.

"If this government isn't going to make a change move over, because we're going to get someone in to make the changes we need."

This comes after the Queensland premier told reporters "nobody can seriously stand up and say they could have prevented this murder".

Miles had reportedly been unaware that the accused teen had been out on bail at the time of the alleged murder.

Micallef expressed her concern that the premier is not standing with them, so her and her family have joined the African community in calling for action.

"You know what, I was really glad he said it because I'm like, 'You're not the man for the job if you can't reassure people in the community this is the utmost priority'," Micallef said.

"We all need to feel safe."

She also called for support for the African community.

"You don't judge the whole community by a couple of bad apples," she said.

This news comes just days after Vyleen White's husband spoke out on her death.

Images: 9News

Former premier's emotional farewell after wife's sudden passing

Helena Carr, the wife of former foreign minister and NSW premier Bob Carr, has been bid an emotional farewell at Sydney's St Mary's Cathedral after passing away last month in Vienna.

The 77-year-old lost consciousness due to a brain aneurysm while on a trip with her husband. In a tearful eulogy, Bob Carr shared the raw pain of losing his beloved wife of 50 years, known affectionately to him as "H".

Reflecting on their enduring partnership, Carr acknowledged the acceptance that their time together was not infinite. He described the calmness and wisdom they found, emphasising the joy they took in each other's happiness.

"We seemed to be at peace in our 50-year partnership," he said. "We accepted without admitting it that our time would not be forever. We were in a resting place that meant we were happy to see the other one happy. No partner could have smiled more than she did.

"As we walked across Vienna having fun on that last day, that was where our 50-year journey had taken us: to a kind of calmness and wisdom where it ended so suddenly, so cruelly cut off.

“We are such stuff that dreams are made of, and our light rounded off with a sleep. That left me to say, my friend, as co-conspirator in this half-century collaboration, thank you my lucky star, my little friend.”

In addition to being a supportive partner, Helena was recognised as an accomplished businesswoman who played a crucial role in her husband's political career. Born in Malaysia, she took over the security division producing postage stamps at Australia Post in 1984. Bob Carr praised her multifaceted contributions to their marriage, portraying her as "CEO, CFO, the chief strategist and the financial planner – which left me to be the entertainment director”.

Carr reminisced about his wife's pivotal role in his political campaigns, showcasing her love for the play, humour, and personality of politics. He emphasised her ability to connect with colleagues and her integral part in the human comedy that brought smiles to those around her.

In a touching revelation, Carr recalled a moment in 1971 when his wife declared him her "lucky star" after watching a film. However, he corrected the sentiment at the funeral, stating that Helena was, in fact, his lucky star.

Education Minister Jason Clare conveyed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese's tribute, describing Helena as the "steel in Bob's back" and "whip smart".

The requiem mass, presided over by Father Frank Brennan SJ AO, celebrated Helena as a "peacemaker" who never sought the limelight. Political figures, including NSW Premier Chris Minns, deputy premier Prue Car, former prime ministers Malcolm Turnbull and Paul Keating, and federal Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek, paid their respects at the ceremony.

Helena Carr's passing marked the end of a remarkable journey that began when she emigrated to Australia to study economics at The University of Sydney. Meeting Bob Carr in Tahiti in 1971, the couple forged a partnership that lasted half a century. Despite the deep sorrow, Bob found a reason to carry on – for her.

Images: Supplied

Actors leave their own movie premiere

The A-list cast of Oppenheimer have abruptly left the London premiere of the highly-anticipated movie.

Stars of the film such as Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, and Florence Pugh disappeared from the premiere, shortly after appearing on the red carpet.

The film, about Robert Oppenheimer who was key in the creation of the nuclear bomb, is set to be one of the biggest films of the year, with thousands of fans turning up to London’s Leicester Square to celebrate its premiere.

However, before the movie could even begin inside the theatre, the stars walked out, leaving director Christopher Nolan to wonder where they were.

Nolan later told Variety that the actors walked out of the event in solidarity with a just-called Hollywood actors strike.

“You’ve seen them here earlier on the red carpet,” he said.

“Unfortunately, they’re off to write their picket signs for what we believe to be an imminent strike by SAG, joining one of my guilds, the Writers Guild, in the struggle for fair wages for working members of the unions, and we support them.”

SAG-AFTRA is the Screen Actors Guild which represents 160,000 performers including A-list stars.

SAG members will now go on strike, joining writers in the first industry-wide shutdown in 63 years after last-ditch talks over dwindling pay and the threat posed by artificial intelligence failed, with nearly all film and television production set to grind to a halt.

“SAG-AFTRA’s national board unanimously voted to issue a strike order against the studios and streamers,” said the union’s chief negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland.

At the Oppenheimer premiere, Matt Damon warned on the red carpet that he and his fellow stars were about to bail.

“Once the strike is officially called, we’re going to walk obviously in solidarity”.

“That’s why we moved this [event] up because we know the second it’s called, we’re going home,” he said.

“I was wrong”: Dominic Perrottet admits Catholic faith played a role in gambling reform

Dominic Perrottet has changed his tune. After reflecting on his decision to implement a new gambling policy, he admits his Catholic faith played a role.

Last week ClubsNSW CEO Josh Landis made a comment claiming the premier’s “conservative Catholic gut” was linked to his decision to implement cashless poker machines across all venues in NSW. As a result, the ClubsNSW board decided to fire Landis.
Perrottet responded to the comment and claimed his views were “not informed by the fact that I’m Catholic.”

Since then, Perrottet has changed his mind. He admitted that the decision was influenced by his Catholic faith. “Certainly my upbringing and my faith has had an impact,” the premier said.
“I don’t think that is something I should be ashamed of.”

When asked why this policy is such a priority for him, he reflected on his time as NSW treasurer, “We were receiving revenue and profit from people’s misery.”

Perrottet has been the state’s premier since October 2021, dealing with the state opening up after COVID and the Omnicron wave. “I haven't got everything right in the time I've been in politics, but you learn from it,” he said.

“Politics is not easy. It's difficult and there will always be the external events and mistakes get made.”

If Perrottet is re-elected this year, the gambling law overhaul will begin early next year with the roll-out of cashless poker machines.

"Exhausted" Premier Mark McGowan calls it quits

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan has announced he is stepping down as premier and member for Rockingham after six years, saying he is “exhausted”.

McGowan announced his resignation after calling a snap press conference in Perth and read out a “brief statement” to reporters.

"Today I am announcing that I will be stepping down as Premier and member for Rockingham," the statement read.

"I was elected premier of Western Australia in March 2017, more than six years ago. Prior to that I served as Opposition Leader for more than six years.

"Now is the right time to step away from the job I love.”

McGowan said he is stepping down partly because he is confident Labor will win the next state election.

"I'm tired, extremely tired. In fact, I'm exhausted," he said.

"The role of political leadership does not stop, it is relentless, with huge responsibility but it is all consuming, each and every day. And combined with the COVID-19 years, it has taken it out of me.

"I'm convinced WA Labor can win and will win the next election in 2025. But I just don't have the energy or drive that is required to continue in the role as Premier.”

He revealed he had been considering stepping down for a while, and will take a break after he finishes.

"It is not a decision I have taken lightly, I've been considering it for quite a while," he said.

"I will leave Parliament and leave the role by the end of this week. It will be up to my colleagues to select my replacement.

"I don't want to finish work completely. Once I am rested and recuperated, I will look for something else to do.”

McGowan thanked his wife Sarah and three children, Samuel, Alexander and Amelia, for their support over the years.

"To my family can I pass on my love and thanks, being Premier takes a huge toll on family life," he said.

"Thank you for every thing over so many hard years.”

The politician added that he is a “phone call away” should his successor ever need advice.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he had spoken to McGowan and congratulated him on his retirement, commending the work he’s done for Western Australia.

"Mark leaves office as he led, on his own terms and as his own man. He has been a great Premier of his proud state, an extraordinary leader for WA Labor and a trusted friend," Albanese said.

"Above all, Mark will be remembered for seeing the people of Western Australia safely through one of the most challenging crises in our nation's history. In unprecedented times, Mark always held to his convictions and always sought to do the right thing by his state.

"I wish Mark, Sarah and their family all the very best for the next chapter of their lives.”

Throughout his time as state leader, McGowan has faced several challenges including threats against himself and his family, and pressure over his strict handling of Covid-19.

In November 2021, McGowan and his family had considered moving out of their home in Rockingham after threats were allegedly made against them.

Police charged two men over phone calls made to the state premier, which allegedly included threats to behead his wife and children.

“In terms of my own family, obviously it’s not pleasant. It’s not very nice and I just urge the people doing it to stop,” McGowan told reporters at the time.

According to police, a 20-year-old from Canning Vale and an 18-year-old from Harrisdale allegedly called the premier personally and issued threats via voicemail.

McGowan copped serious backlash for mandating vaccinations and locking down WA’s borders during the pandemic.

Despite the criticism, the WA government continued to pursue a 90 per cent vaccination rate.

“It’s not going to change our approach. We’re going to continue to work to get West Australians vaccinated,” he said.

“We’re going to continue with the rules we’ve put in place because that is what is needed.”

McGowan has also been approached and verbally abused by protesters on several occasions.

He was confronted by Covid-19 protesters opposed to mandatory vaccinations, with a mob seen swarming his car.

The encounter was captured on video and the premier is seen walking to his car before he was descended upon by a group shouting and holding signs.

A woman attempted to approach the premier and his security, demanding he “give us our jobs back”.

As the politician stepped into his car, the group called him a “f***ing coward” while banging on the vehicle’s windows.

“Aren’t you down here to convince us?” one woman yelled.

“We will rise up,” another remarked as he drove off.

McGowan was also involved in a legal battle, with mining magnate Clive Palmer taking him and the state of WA to court multiple times during the pandemic.

Both men fell short of a victory in the defamation trial after they sued each other in the NSW Federal Court, with $5,000 in damage awarded to Palmer and $20,000 to McGowan.

“Both men went too far in their political jousting and both men litigated, but only one was willing to draw back and avoid the long and costly hearing,” Justice Michael Lee said after the trial.

Palmer had claimed that the politician defamed him in multiple comments including that he was a “threat” to WA.

McGowan countersued Palmer’s claims that he “lied” to the public about Covid-19, among several other comments.

The defamation trial came about after Palmer lost his High Court battle with WA over its harsh border.

Palmer sought $30 billion from the state after claiming that legislation introduced but WA Labor was unconstitutional.

The bill amended a 2002 state agreement with Palmer’s Mineralogy company and was designed to bar him from suing over a decision by the previous Liberal government to not assess one of his mining projects.

“Time and time again, Clive Palmer has attempted to bring our state down – first, by challenging the hard border that kept Western Australians safe through a pandemic, and then by launching an outrageous legal claim for damages,” the politician said in a social media post.

Palmer responded to McGowan’s resignation on Twitter with, “Goodbye, Mark McGowan, Goodbye.”

In addition to the considerable obstacles he’s faced, McGowan was also involved in a car accident.

The premier was fortunately uninjured, and the woman who hit him was on her way to her first day at a new job.

Despite hearing a large bang, McGowan said there was only minor damage to the car.

“I’m fine. It wasn’t that bad,” he told Seven West Media.

“We were just coming around a corner and another car sort of hit us, it felt worse than it was.

“It was all very dramatic, I think, for her, but she was great. She was good-humoured, a bit shaken up, a bit shocked but we had a good chat.”

Ambulance report contradicts Daniel Andrews’ car crash statement

A newly discovered ambulance report has contradicted Daniel Andrews’ statement about a 2013 car accident on the Mornington Peninsula that almost killed a teenager.

The Victorian premier was being driven by his wife Catherine in their family Ford Territory when it collided with a bike being ridden by 15-year-old Ryan Meuleman.

The incident occurred near the Melbourne Rd and Ridley St intersection in Blairgowrie around 1:30pm on January 7, 2013.

Meuleman suffered a punctured lung, broken ribs, internal bleeding and was left with just 10 per cent of his spleen. He was in The Royal Children’s Hospital for 11 days.

Mrs Andrews wasn’t breathalysed following the accident, and the teen wasn’t given a chance to give a statement to police.

Mr Andrews and his wife have held up their claims that Mueleman was at fault as the premier told reporters in 2017 that the teen was “moving at speed” when he “absolutely T-boned the car”.

However, a document obtained by the Herald Sun, put together by Ambulance Victoria paramedics who were present at the scene, challenges the couple’s claims that they came to a “complete stop” and “turned right from a stationary position” moments before the collision.

The “Patient Care Report” reads, 15YO on bike. Struck on L side by car travelling 40 to 60kmh … PT onto bonnet, then onto windscreen which cracked on impact … thrown onto roadway.”

The document has only now been uncovered as Mr Mueleman, now 25, has escalated legal action.

Speaking to the Herald Sun, barrister Daryl Dealehr said, “The serious injuries to the left side of Ryan’s body and the observations made by the ambulance officers who attended the crash are completely inconsistent with the claims to police made by Mr Andrews and his wife that their vehicle was travelling at a low speed,”

“The evidence appears completely at odds with what Daniel and Catherine Andrews have been claiming since the collision.”

The outlet reported in late 2022, before the November state election, that Meuleman had contacted lawyers to re-examine the accident and the circumstances surrounding the investigation and legal settlement that followed.

The ambulance report was not in the files that were originally handed over by law firm Slater & Gordon.

According to the Herald Sun, The Meuelemans are seeking pre-trial discovery against the law firm and the Transport Accident Commission (TAC) in an attempt to uncover any further “missing” documents.

After the accident, Mueleman was paid $80,000 by the TAC, though his family have raised “concerns” over the proceedings.

The teen’s parents insist they never engaged Slater & Gordon, a Labor-aligned law firm, to represent their son while the firm refuses to reveal what led to its involvement.

“I hadn’t seen this report until a week ago,” Mueleman told the Herald Sun.

“The lawyers never showed it to me. They just told me to agree to the deal and kind of, you know, shut up. I was 15 years old, mate. I was a kid. Seriously, I was 15. I am pretty blown away to be honest. I just wish I had it to show everyone 10 years ago. It would have changed everything. People would have known that they hit me, not the other way around.”

In 2017, the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission examined the police response to the crash, including failing to use a breathalyser after the crash.

Mr Andrews and his wife were not formally interviewed until nearly a month after the incident.

In November 2017, uncovered police photographs obtained by the

saw the extent of damage to the vehicle.

In his signed statement on February 2013, the Premier said, “We had turned right from a stationary position into Ridley St. Moments after we turned, a cyclist collided heavily with the side of our vehicle … the cyclist was travelling at speed and hit our car at a perfect right angle very heavily. I want to make it clear — the cyclist hit our vehicle.”

In the statement, Mrs Andrews said, “I turned from Melbourne Rd after coming to a complete stop … just after we turned into Ridley St our car was struck heavily on the front driver’s side by a cyclist who it seems was attempting to cross Ridley St at speed from the bike path.”

In a press conference in November, shortly after Mr Mueleman's new claims were revealed, Mr Andrew rejected several questions from reporters.

“I’ve got nothing further to say,” he said.

A spokesperson for the Premier said that the matter had been "dealt with" by Tourism Minister Steve Dimopoulos at a press conference that morning.

“This is over a decade old,” Mr Dimopoulos told reporters.

“The most appropriate authorities have investigated this thoroughly and have made no adverse findings. Beyond that, the Premier himself has answered questions on this almost as many times as he’s answered questions on Covid. This has been thoroughly examined and I really don’t have any more to say.”

“It was a terrible mistake”: NSW premier admits to wearing Nazi costume

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has admitted in a televised press conference that he dressed up in a Nazi uniform at his 21st “fancy dress” themed birthday party.

During the press conference, Mr Perrottet said he chose to make the public admission after being called by a colleague two days ago who said they knew about the costume.

“When it was raised to me two days ago, I realised I needed to tell the truth and not someone else,” he told reporters.

Mr Perrottet also revealed that no-one else at the party wore Nazi garb, and that his mother and father – who also attended the party – told him the next day that his choice of costume was “in poor taste”.

In an interview with 2GB’s Chris O’Keefe on Wednesday afternoon, Mr Perrottet clarified he did not dress up as Adolf Hitler and did not wear a fake moustache.

Mr Perrottet said that he was unaware whether any images existed of him wearing the costume, but that he wanted to address the “massive mistake”.

He said he was “deeply ashamed” of the decision and apologised for the hurt it would cause the wider community: “I wish I could go back in time and do that day again.”

The premier admitted he studied World War II history in school and had Jewish friends at 21 but says he was “naive” and did not realise the gravity of his actions.

“It was a terrible mistake at that age in my life, I just did not understand the gravity and the hurt of what that uniform means to people not just in our state but around the country and around the world,” he continued.

Mr Perrottet said he had considered addressing the incident several times in the past and was aware that it was important the revelation came from him to apologise for “the hurt and the pain this is going to cause”.

“When it was raised with me I didn’t want this difficult truth of a grave and terrible mistake that I made at my 21st birthday party to be told by someone else,” he said.

“I have grappled with this. It has been something that’s personally anguished me.”

In response, the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies posted a statement on their Facebook page and said they hoped the incident would “serve as a lesson” and reminder of the “abhorrent nature of the Nazi regime”. They also said Nazi symbolism should “not to be taken lightly and dressing as a Nazi is not a joke”.

“We appreciate that the Premier personally reached out to the Jewish community this afternoon to express his deep and sincere regret about his poor choice of costume as a young man,” the post reads.

“The Premier has been a staunch supporter and friend of the NSW Jewish community throughout his time in public life. In particular, as Treasurer, he ensured the Sydney Jewish Museum received funding to ensure that it could continue educating the community about the Holocaust and the horrors of the Nazi era.

“The Premier has acknowledged this, recognising that wearing the costume was offensive and will distress many in our community.”

The premier has also said he has spoken with Jewish leaders and would continue to apologise to the community.

“I’ve become a very passionate supporter of the Jewish community,” he said.

The revelation comes just months after Mr Perrottet spoke out strongly against a group of soccer fans who were spotted throwing Nazi salutes at the Australia Cup final, saying there should be lifetime bans for the act.

“What we saw the other day was terrible. It was absolutely horrendous,” he said in October.

“It has no place, not just at sporting games, but anywhere in our state.”

Image: Twitter

"Here she is!": NSW Premier welcomes SIXTH daughter

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet has welcomed his seventh child with wife Helen.

Mr Perottet announced the birth of the "beautiful" baby girl on Wednesday night.

Her name is Celeste Grace Perrottet.

“Here she is!” Mr Perrottet announced on social media. "Helen and I are absolutely thrilled to welcome our beautiful baby girl, Celeste Grace Perrottet, born last night," the premier wrote on Facebook.

"Both Mum and baby are doing well.

"She's looking forward to being kissed and cuddled, fought over and cherished by her big brother and sisters.

“Special thanks to the incredible midwives who were with us every step of the way."

Mr Perrottet has six other children: Charlotte, Amelia, Annabelle, William, Harriet and Beatrice.

The 39-year-old father was sworn in as NSW’s 46th premier last October, following the resignation of Gladys Berejikilian.

The state’s youngest ever Premier was himself brought up in a family of 12 children, admitting he grew up changing nappies and helping his mother. A 13th sibling died at birth.

Mr Perrottet entered parliament a decade ago when he was still in his 20s. In his first speech he paid tribute to his own mother and his wife, Helen and what he had learned growing up in a big family.
“I had the privilege of growing up in a large family. I am the third of 12 children. As you may imagine, my mother ran a very tight ship,’’ he said.
“But with so many of us around, she realised very quickly she could not get everything done by herself. I polished 12 pairs of shoes in summer. I packed 12 lunches in autumn. I changed 1200 nappies in winter and then changed them again in spring.”

Images: Facebook

Fiery start to new season of SAS Australia

The explosive opening night premiere of SAS Australia saw football legend Wayne Carey, aged 50, touch on the humiliating moment his life came off the rails back in 2002 – all during an intense challenge that saw him set on fire.

As the former Kangaroos captain-turned-AFL commentator approached chief instructor Ant Middleton, he reflected on the infamous affair, when he was caught in a bathroom tryst with Kelli Stevens, the wife of North Melbourne Kangaroos vice captain Anthony Stevens.

'The affair, it's the biggest regret of my life as an adult,' said Carey in a cutaway confessional.

'As an adult, I've done a lot of work, I'm trying to overcome it,' he continued.

Carey was then doused in accelerant and spectacularly set ablaze in a task that required him to race to water to put out the flames.

This task also gave him time enough to ponder his past mistakes.

'People say people don't change, but people can change, they evolve,' he added. 'I'm a perfect example of someone that's been able to evolve.'

Carey, winner of two premierships as captain of North Melbourne and regarded as one of the best players of all time, was just one of many celebrities looking for redemption on the fourth season of SAS Australia. Other contestants include retired NRL star Darius Boyd, model Simone Holtznagel and Bachelor star Locky Gilbert.

Also appearing are former Olympic swimmer Geoff Huegill, Olympic diver Melissa Wu, AFL star Barry Hall, Real Housewives of Sydney's Melissa Tkautz and convicted cocaine dealer Richard Buttrose.

Boxers Ebanie Bridges and Michael Zerafa as well as comedian Pauly Fenech, rugby star Ellia Green, NRLW player Millie Boyle and motorsports presenter Riana Crehan are also set to compete on the show.

Rounding out the group is troubled Home and Away star Orpheus Pledger.

Image: Channel 7

Alan Jones’ new online show crashes minutes into premiere

Alan Jones' newest venture, an online show called Direct to the People, premiered on Monday night, although not without a few technical hiccups.

Jones revealed just last week that he had signed with Australian Digital Holdings to produce a digital TV show, describing it as the “tomorrow of media”. The news came just over a month after his final show on Sky News aired following the network’s decision to not renew his contract.

For his return to the screen, Jones was set to interview NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet. Unfortunately, just minutes into the 8 pm premiere, Jones’ website went down, and the video feed crashed on all platforms. Blaming excessive traffic, producers rescheduled for 8.30pm, at which point the show resumed. Producers have claimed there were “hundreds of thousands” of people attempting to tune in, which is what caused the crash. At the time the stream went down, there were 1322 viewers on YouTube and over 1600 likes on the video on Facebook.

During their interview, Jones congratulated Perrottet for his commitment to “freedom of speech”, saying, We’ve lost the quintessential Australian characteristics of optimism, fun...offering one’s own opinion without the fear of being cancelled.”

Jones also criticised lockdowns and mask mandates, which he argued had more of a negative impact than COVID-19 itself. Perrottet stated that decisions made by himself and his government had not always been the right ones, while acknowledging that Australia has continued to enjoy the benefits of comparatively low case numbers, adding that with vaccination rates increasing, it made sense to relax restrictions.

The Premier said, “There are still so many commentators, politicians and members of the public who would still prefer us to be locked down in circumstances where there is no need. My focus is not on the case numbers, it’s on the ICU and hospital presentations. Coming out every day and saying ‘here are the case numbers’ can instil fear in the community.”

Queensland Senator Matt Canavan also made an appearance on the program, discussing his push to increase Australia’s domestic manufacturing capabilities and to implement nuclear energy.

Image: Matt King/Getty Images

Amazing audio of Cleo's rescue, plus Premier owes her a new pair of shoes

WA Police have released audio of the moment 4-year-old Cleo Smith was rescued. One officer can be heard reassuring Cleo as they pick her up, saying “I’ve got you bubby”, while another asks Cleo, “What’s your name, sweetheart?” To this, she responds, “My name is Cleo”, to which the officer responds, “Your name is Cleo”, while another says “Hello Cleo”.

It’s a heartwarming moment, as is the moment Cleo is carried outside the house she was found in, which police released video footage of on Wednesday soon after announcing she had been safely located and returned to her family.

"My name is Cleo." pic.twitter.com/xiy59x4kjP
— WA Police Force (@WA_Police) November 4, 2021

The moment Cleo was rescued 👏 pic.twitter.com/arusYi9kCa
— WA Police Force (@WA_Police) November 3, 2021

In a press conference earlier today, Detective Senior Sergeant Blaine said that Cleo was found awake in a room with the lights on, playing with toys. The home was in Carnarvon, the Western Australian town where the Smith family lives. She had been missing for 18 days when she was finally found around midnight on Wednesday.

Blaine said that Cleo appeared to be in good spirits, "From our point of view, I'm amazed she seems to be so well-adjusted and happy, it was really, heart-warming to see.

“She is playing in the backyard, exactly how you would expect, like how my daughter did when she was four-years-old."

Premier Mark McGowan had the opportunity to meet her on Thursday, bringing with him two teddies – one for Cleo, and one for her younger sister Isla. They named the teddies Cameron and Rod, after the detective who rescued her and the lead investigator on the case, but he wasn’t sure if those names would stick, joking to reporters that “Cleo didn’t seem too enamoured with those names.”

McGowan also revealed an embarrassing moment that transpired during the meeting. “I unfortunately trod on her new Barbie shoes and broke one of them, so I owe her a pair of shoes,” he said. Despite that unfortunate incident, the Premier said she was a “very bright, upbeat, sweet little girl” and described the Smith family as “very humble” and “very well adjusted” considering their ordeal.

“It was a lovely experience to meet her. She was, I thought, very well adjusted considering and the family were very appreciative of everything that has been done for them. They’re ... fundamentally decent, honest human beings ... they’re really lovely people and it’s great to meet them and acknowledge what they’ve been through.

“Obviously, there’ll be a way to go from here but they’re certainly on the right pathway.”

Image: WA Police

"No hesitation": WA Premier announces huge reward in Cleo Smith search

Image: Instagram

A $1 million reward for information about missing four-year-old Cleo Smith has been offered by The Western Australian government.

The decision comes as the search enters its sixth day. The focus has now been switched to the prospect the little girl was abducted.

The ground search around the campsite north of Carnarvon in WA’s Midwest was back in full swing on Thursday.

It’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Cleo will be found alive around there.

Acknowledging someone must know something about her disappearance, the WA government is now offering a $1 million reward.

“All Western Australians’ thoughts are with Cleo’s family during what is an unimaginably difficult time,” WA Premier Mark McGowan said.

“We’re all praying for a positive outcome.”

“We want to ensure police have everything they need to solve this case and that’s why my government has no hesitation in supporting police with this reward offer.”

The reward is for $1 million for information resulting in finding Cleo or leading to arrest and conviction of the person or persons involved in her suspicious disappearance.

It is the equal largest reward offered in WA history.

A number of other high profile disappearances and murders have also attracted a $1 million reward, including for information about the murder of 11-year-old Gerard Ross in 1997, the disappearance of 12-year-old Lisa Mott in 1980 and the disappearance of Lisa Govan in 1999.

Evidence is mounting in the Cleo Smith case that a third party was involved.

Police say there is crucial evidence that includes the tent were Cleo, her mother Ellie, stepfather Jake, and baby sister Isla were sleeping. The zipper on the front of the tent had been opened to a height that made it impossible for Cleo to have opened it herself.

Added to that, the little girl’s sleeping bag was missing and has not been found.

Cleo was last seen inside the tent around 1:30 am on Saturday when her mum gave her a drink of water.

At 6 am they awoke to give the younger child a bottle, Cleo was gone.

A massive land and sea search was mounted in rough country with a treacherous coastline.

Twenty registered sex offenders are currently living in and around the town of Carnarvon and have all been questioned.

The state government have offered million-dollar rewards before but never this soon after a suspected crime was committed, signalling the urgency to find Cleo quickly.

“I urge anyone who knows what happened to little Cleo to come forward with the information police need to find her.”

Ben Fordham blasts deputy premier over broken promises

Radio host Ben Fordham has blasted the NSW deputy premier Paul Toole over sudden changes to travel restrictions.

On Thursday, the newly formed state crisis cabinet backflipped on their plan to allow Sydneysiders to travel to regional parts of NSW once the 80 percent vaccine milestone was met.

Appearing on Ben's 2GB morning show on Friday, Mr Toole confirmed that the date has been changed to November 1st.

The sudden change has sparked outrage, as families and friends across the state are desperate to be reunited with their loved ones.

“I know it’s frustrating and I know it’s not an easy decision being made, but we have a responsibility to keep our regional communities safe,” Mr Toole said.

Ben argued that “people have had all the time in the world to get vaccinated”.

“Why does it matter when we’ve hit 80 per cent?” he asked.

“It’s the quicker the better. I don’t know how many broken promises there are on regional travel. I can’t keep up.”

Allowing Sydneysiders to visit other NSW regions was originally promised when the state achieved the 70 percent milestone, but then was pushed back to 80 percent.

NSW Premier Dominic Perrottet on Thursday argued that the state achieved the 80 per cent target far earlier than anticipated, which had sparked concerns among regional leaders as rural NSW communities catch up to vaccine rates.

Mr Toole echoed those comments on Friday.

“We achieved that target of 80 per cent vaccination quicker than we thought. We thought it would still be a couple of weeks away,” Mr Toole said, before later arguing that the road map had been a clear path.

Fordham argued that the people of NSW felt “dudded” by the decision and pushed Mr Toole to confess to breaking a promise.

“Do you agree that it’s a broken promise?” he asked.

Mr Toole tried to argue that there had been changes to the road map, but Fordham pushed him again.

“Do you agree that it’s a broken promise? Yes or no?"

“I actually think the road map we’ve put forward has had plenty of changes all the way through,” Mr Toole said.

What a joke.
Paul Toole, New South Wales’ new Deputy Premier, has hit back at claims that chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant did not endorse changes made to the state’s road map out of lockdown.

Mr Toole argued against claims that Dr Chant didn’t support Premier Dominic Perrottet’s changes to mask rules, caps on gatherings, and a fast-tracked return to face-to-face schooling.

Appearing on Sunrise on Friday, Mr Toole told Natalie Barr, “no, that’s not the case”.

“It was endorsed by Kerry Chant and it was endorsed by NSW Health,” he continued.

“We had a crisis cabinet the day before and Kerry Chant was in that meeting. Dominic Perrottet is the new Premier of NSW

Treasurer Dominic Perrottet has won a NSW Liberal party room vote for the position of party leader, making him the next Premier of New South Wales. Perrottet won with 39 votes to Planning Minister Rob Stokes’ five, and Jobs Minister Stuart Ayres was elected unopposed as deputy Liberal leader.

The vote followed Gladys Berejiklian’s resignation as party leader on Friday, which itself followed the announcement of an ICAC investigation into the question of whether Berejiklian breached public trust during her secret relationship with former MP Daryl Maguire.

Perottet will be the 46th Premier of NSW, and the fourth Liberal Premier since 2011, succeeding Barry O’Farrell, Mike Baird, and Gladys Berejiklian. Perrottet is from the right-wing of the Liberal Party, and has been endorsed by former Prime Minister John Howard.

Perrottet represents the electoral district of Epping, which includes the suburbs of Beecroft, Cheltenham, Cherrybrook, North Epping, as well as parts of Epping, Carlingford, Castle Hill, Dural, Eastwood, Pennant Hills and West Pennant Hills. Perottet himself was raised in West Pennant Hills and went to school in Dural and Castle Hill before attending the University of Sydney, where he was active in student politics.

Perrottet is a devout Catholic, and has said of his religious views, “I think having a Christian faith is part of who I am and inspires me to make a difference wherever I go.” In 2019, he was the most senior member of the NSW government to oppose the decriminalisation of abortion. Despite this, reports have suggested he will support a conscience vote on the issue of voluntary assisted dying.

In the days leading up to Tuesday’s party room vote, a 2016 Facebook post Perrottet made following the successful election of Donald Trump was widely circulated. In the post, Perrottet welcomed Trump’s win as “a victory for people who have been taken for granted by the elites”, going on to write, “If you support stronger borders, you are not a racist. If you want a plebiscite on same-sex marriage, you are not a homophobe.”

Despite this, in a speech given later that year, he also criticised what he identified as the failure of mainstream political parties to stop the rise of populists like Trump. He criticised the Republican Party for embracing an “elite big business agenda” that had “shut out their base” and failed to respond to the “growing disillusionment around them”.

Image: Bianca De Marchi - Pool/Getty Images
