Here’s a quick and easy rundown of the key numbers, economic forecasts and big-ticket promises (without making your head spin). <p>John Travolta's youngest son, Benjamin Travolta, has turned 14! </p> <p>The <em>Grease </em>actor took to Instagram on Saturday November 23 to share his heartwarming tribute celebrating the teen.</p> <p>"Happy birthday my Ben. Your dad loves you!  And so does Peanut!" he wrote. </p> <p>He shared a photo of the 14-year-old receiving a kiss from their beloved family pup Peanut, who the actor famously adopted after Jamie Lee Curtis brought her onstage during a segment at the 94th Academy Awards in 2022. </p> <p>"The day we adopted Peanut on Oscar night! Bindi Irwin's sweet nickname for Robert revealed

Young Aussie medallist's sweet plane gesture

<p>Australian gold medallist Arisa Trew has warmed hearts after sharing her sweet gesture on the plane back from Paris. </p> <p>Trew became the youngest Australian to ever win a gold medal at the Paris games after emerging victorious in the skateboarding competition, capturing the hearts of Australia with her incredible performance. </p> <p>Trew was one of dozens of Aussies who <a href="https://oversixty.com.au/travel/international-travel/just-magical-aussie-olympians-return-home-in-triumph" target="_blank" rel="noopener">flew back</a> from Paris on Wednesday morning, and explained why she was quick to give up her business class seat as a medallist. </p> <p><em>Sunrise</em> host Matt Shirvington said there was a pecking order to the seat allocation on the Qantas plane, explaining, “Apparently, the breakdown is the medallists get first pick of business class, then the two-time Olympians or more get a shot at premium economy, and the rest are out the back of the plane.”</p> <p>By winning gold, Trew was allowed to be in the expensive business class seats, but she told the Jase & Lauren radio show on Nova radio that she had other plans for the lengthy flight.</p> <p>“Where did you get to sit on the plane? Because you’re a gold medallist, you’re 14 years old. Were you right up the front?” Lauren Phillips asked Trew.</p> <p>Trew’s reply stunned the radio hosts, as she admitted, “I mean, I could have been sitting in business with all the medallists, but instead I chose to sit in economy with my two best friends, Chloe and Ruby.”</p> <p>Those friends are fellow skateboarders Chloe Covell and Ruby Trew who both missed out on medals, hence their seats “out the back”.</p> <p>“You’re the cutest thing ever. We couldn’t love you anymore,” Phillips said.</p> <p>“So Arisa, does that mean you got to give someone your gold medal business class seat?”</p> <p>Trew replied, “I’m pretty sure somebody else got it because me and my friends were walking around the plane, and we went up there, and it was all full. So I definitely think somebody else was sitting there but I don’t mind.”</p> <p>Trew also revealed she was heading straight back to school after touching down in Australia and would be there bright and early on Thursday.</p> <p>“I’m gonna go back. I just love going to school, because it’s the skate park where I go to school,” she said.</p> <p>“So I get to see all my friends that skate, that I skate with every day and train with, my coaches, the teachers. Sweet reason why Olympian ditched Closing Ceremony

<p>Aussie medallist Matthew Denny has explained the sweet reason why he missed the Paris 2024 closing ceremony after winning a bronze medal in the men's discus throw event. </p> <p>The athlete spoke with T<em>oday Extra</em> and explained the romantic reason why he missed the special event.</p> <p>"I feel bad, but I didn't end up going to the Closing; I decided [my wife] Mia was going to be by herself, and I need to give back some time to her because ... it's been a pretty brutal 12 months for her," he said.</p> <p>"So I thought it was really important that we had a nice dinner, and we obviously watched the Closing Ceremony, but I just wanted to give her some time." </p> <p>After flying back from Paris to Australia, the athlete said that he had a training session to attend so that he can "finish the year off strong." </p> <p>Denny won third place in the men's discuss throw event, throwing for 69.31 metres on his second attempt of the final. </p> <p>"I'm just thankful that people always back me. To those who didn't think I was going to do it... eat it!" he said to <em>Wide World of Sports </em>following his win. </p> <p>"It's something I'm so proud of, what I do, I get to live an amazing life. I have a great family and support team.</p> <p>"Before I went into this competition, I watched back the Qantas ad we did. I just want to see those people again before I went in here.</p> <p>"I know that's who I'm doing it for. So... yeah, thank you to you guys for supporting me."</p> <p>Despite his win, the athlete is aiming for gold as he hopes to compete again in the Brisbane Olympics. </p> <p>"I can't not be proud of my performance, but the inner critic wants more, and I know there's more there," he said.</p> <p>"To get a medal is amazing but the critic is still there in me. Queen Mary's sweet act after Olympic win

<p>Queen Mary has made a surprise appearance at the Olympics and shared a sweet exchange with the Australian swim team after they snatched up a gold medal. </p> <p>The Australian relay team, with Mollie O’Callaghan, Ariarne Titmus, Lani Pallister, and Brianna Throssel  took home the gold and an Olympic record in the women's 4x200m freestyle relay. </p> <p>After they received their gold medals, Ariarne Titmus noticed the Australian-born queen in the stands, and jogged over to her and straight into her arms for a celebratory hug. </p> <p>Queen Mary was beaming with pride as they reveled in the glory. </p> <p>She also pulled out her phone to snap pictures of the moment and even took selfies with the Olympians. </p> <p>“A gold medal in Paris and a royal hug. Does it get any better!” Karl Stefanovic said on the <em>Today Show</em> on Friday morning.</p> <p>“And at the end of the day, it’s two Tasmanians. Look at her taking photos on her phone, I love this, this is such a special moment,” Sarah Abo added.</p> <p>Stefanovic also said “it’s not every day you get a Queen getting a selfie with you”.</p> <p>“That is just stunning. We know Queen Mary’s presence has been felt. Julie Goodwin shares her top tips for perfect potatoes every time

<p dir="ltr">Who doesn't love a good, hearty, delicious serving of fluffy and decadent potatoes?</p> <p dir="ltr">Original <em>MasterChef Australia</em> champion Julie Goodwin has shared her ultimate hacks for cooking the perfect potatoes every time, whether they’re mashed, roasted or baked.</p> <p dir="ltr">According to Julie, there are three key things every home cook needs to keep in mind the next time potatoes are on the menu. </p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Make sure you have the right potatoes </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">Depending on whether you want baked, mashed, roasted, or any other way you want to prepare your potatoes, it all starts in the supermarket. </p> <p dir="ltr">"I find that for things like mashed potatoes and gnocchi and rostis you want a floury potato, so the general rule is dirty potatoes for those things," Julie told <em><a href="https://kitchen.nine.com.au/latest/julie-goodwin-top-three-tips-to-cook-potatoes-robertson-potato-festival/4d16ba12-bf14-4af2-990e-dcf0e89c30ee">9Honey</a></em>.</p> <p dir="ltr">"And then for stuff like potato salads, boiled baby potatoes, and potato bake, it's better to have a waxy potato because they hold their substance better. And those are the ones that are sold clean, so things like the Pontiac and Desiree with the pink skin or the washed potatoes with the white skin."</p> <p dir="ltr">"If you want to use them in an Irish stew to break down and thicken the sauce you've got to use a floury potato," she says. "So tend to your dirty ones."</p> <p dir="ltr">She says that if you're buying a clean, waxy potato, you won't have to peel them since the skin is supposed to be edible.</p> <p dir="ltr">However, if you're buying a dirty, floury potato, then you're going to want to peel the dirt off first and then wash off the residue.</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Get those crispy edges </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">As every home cook knows, the key to the perfect roasted potato is for the inside to be soft and fluffy while the outside stays crispy. </p> <p dir="ltr">It can be a tricky balance to master, but Goodwin says there's a simple way to get it right every time.</p> <p dir="ltr">"I like to par boil them before I roast them. Just so that they go a bit fluffy around the edges," she explains. "What happens is those bits go really crispy and lovely."</p> <p dir="ltr"><strong>Let the flavour flow </strong></p> <p dir="ltr">When it comes to seasoning your potatoes, it's hard to know what flavours will suit your dish best. </p> <p dir="ltr">According to Goodwin, more is less when you season potatoes, so it's best to close the spice cabinet.</p> <p dir="ltr">"Salt is absolutely the number one, pepper's beautiful [but] it depends on what the meal is," she says. “Love is so sweet": Man's sweet mid-air proposal goes viral

<p>Love is in the air! </p> <p>A smitten passenger took his love to the skies and proposed to his girlfriend while on board an Air Peace flight, with the romantic moment captured on camera. </p> <p>A social media user took to TikTok to share the sweet proposal, with the caption: “POV: My friend was proposed to in a plane.”</p> <p>The minute-long video showed a man getting out of his seat on board the packed plane to use the aircraft’s PA system so that he could ask for his girlfriend’s hand in marriage.</p> <p>“She’s so precious and her name is Precious,” the man said before popping the question. </p> <p> “Please, my Precious, I want to ask, will you marry me?”</p> <p>“If you will, just come out and say ‘yes’ to me, my precious,” he added before walking down the aisle of the aircraft. </p> <p>Other passengers cheered for the couple, and in a second video, the man is seen greeting Precious, then getting down on one knee to offer her the ring.</p> <p>Precious was overjoyed at the proposal and said yes, hugging her new fiance. </p> <p>While it is unclear where the plane was travelling, Air Peace is a Nigerian carrier that operates flights to destinations in West Africa and the Middle East, according to the NY Post. </p> <p>TikTok users were also touched by the romantic act, with many of them congratulating the couple. </p> <p>“This is beautiful,” one wrote. </p> <p>“Love is so sweet for real,” another swooned. </p> <p><em>Images: TikTok</em></p>

Firefighter praised for sweet interaction with three-year-old

<p>A cooking mishap for one Aussie family ended with a heartwarming moment shared between a firefighter and a young girl meeting her hero for the first time. </p> <p>Firefighters were called to a home at Blue Haven on the NSW Central Coast on Saturday, after a fire broke out on a kitchen stove top and spread to the range hood. </p> <p>They were quick to put out the blaze and just as they were about to leave, three-year-old Mia was too excited to meet her heroes that she couldn't let them leave just yet. </p> <p>"Once we got there and ascertained that there was no fire spread to the roof and other areas... their daughter decided to take me away into the room to see the new books she got," Doyalson Fire and Rescue Station Manager Dirk Ziekenheiner told Yahoo News.  </p> <p>"Which I then obviously took the opportunity to read," he added.</p> <p>A picture of the sweet moment was shared on social media, with the firefighter sat on one of Mia's pink chairs and the three-year-old keenly listening to him read the story. </p> <p>Mia also impressed the firefighter with her own safety knowledge, as she shared her understanding of calling Triple-Zero in an emergency, how to escape a fire and the importance staying outside after evacuating. </p> <p>"Obviously her parents did really well and schools pass on the message, and you know that safety messages are key to surviving a house fire, especially these days," Ziekenheiner said.</p> <p>"If you don't know what to do, and you never plan for it, then you're probably behind the eight ball... this girl was amazing, she knew all those key messages which is really important."</p> <p>Aussies praised the firefighter in the comments of the post, with many of them commenting on how "cute" the moment was. </p> <p>Mia's father, James, also added that his daughter was very excited to meet her heroes despite the circumstances. </p> <p>"Mia watches a lot of children's TV shows which feature firefighters so she already knows they're heroes and they rescue people," James said.</p> <p>"Having now seen first-hand the great work they do, we'll continue to spread the word about fire safety and we encourage others to do the same.</p> <p>"Our family never thought we'd come this close to losing our home to fire, so the key is to not be complacent about the risks."</p> <p><em>Image: Fire and Rescue NSW / Facebook</em></p> <p> </p>
