Prince George's not-so-shy birthday portrait released as he turns 5

On Sunday, the third-in-line to the throne celebrated his fifth birthday.

In honour of the special milestone, Prince William and Kate released an official portrait of the prince – just like they’ve done in previous years.

In the photo, George can be seen flashing a wide smile while standing in the garden of Clarence House.

The photo by photographer Matt Porteous was taken after the christening of George’s brother, Prince Louis, on July 9.

“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share a new photograph of Prince George to mark His Royal Highness’s fifth birthday tomorrow,” Kensington Palace said in a statement.

Although he is only 5 years old, George and his sister Charlotte have been known to charm a crowd, stealing the spotlight at several royal events this year.

The siblings captivated onlookers when they went to visit Louis in the hospital after he was born in April.

At the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan, George and Charlotte also looked adorable as they took on their roles as page boy and bridesmaid.

William and Kate have released official portraits for every one of George’s birthdays.

When he turned 1, the royals released a photo of the future king in a butterfly exhibit at London’s Natural History Museum.

To celebrate his 2nd birthday, a photo of George from Princess Charlotte’s christening was shared with royal fans.

On his third birthday, an adorable photo of George sitting on a swing was shared.

Last year, William and Kate shared a photo of George taken in the family’s home, Kensington Palace, with the prince stealing hearts with a toothy grin.
