Grace Kelly wore a second wedding dress – and it wasn't white!

When the name Grace Kelly comes to mind, there are many things one can think of, but one thing everyone remembers is her iconic wedding dress – a dress that is inspiring high-profile personalities still to this day.

Her long-sleeved lace gown was designed by none other than costume designer Helen Rose, and what she created was nothing short of a masterpiece. The dress that still tops the world's best-dressed lists was the inspiration behind the wedding dresses of Miranda Kerr and the Duchess of Cambridge.

But while that extravagant gown that was worn in 1956 is timeless, many forget that the Hollywood starlet wore two dresses that weekend.

The day before she became the Princess of Monaco and wed Prince Rainer III of Monaco, Kelly said “I do” at a civil ceremony held at the royal palace.

Helen was also the mastermind behind her second dress, and responsible for many of the actress's looks throughout her film career.

The dress was covered with hand-run Alencon lace, and the taffeta suit was paired with a tea-length skirt. The top consisted of a fitted bodice and a rounded collar. The fabric was then finished off with silk embroidery, to give a brocaded effect.

In contrast with her ivory wedding dress, the colour of the midi dress fell somewhere between champagne, tan and blush. Grace finished off her outfit with a Juliet cap and kid gloves, looking like a true princess.

And that wasn’t the end, as the actress proceeded to have two more outfit changes before her big day. One was another tea-length dress as she accepted public congratulations at a press conference, and the other was a white silk Lanvin gown that she accessorised with a tiara and jewels.
