I'm the first to admit that when a new smartphone gets released, I'm tempted by the additional features.
The thing is, most of us can't justify purchasing a new smartphone, or you might be stuck in a two year contract.
Well, eBay says there's now $6.4 billion reasons to consider selling your old phone, and then using the money towards purchasing your next phone. EBay data estimated that there are $6.4 billion worth of second hand handsets sitting in drawers across Australia, with models selling for an average $286.
You can find how much your smartphone is worth by visiting eBay’s website here. It grabs information from eBay based on past sales, and gives you a trending price.
I used this site to get a trending sale price for my Samsung Note 4 by inputting the following details:
- Brand: Samsung Note 4, Gold
- Recommended Retail Price: $1,099
- Purchased in: September, 2015 - So I've been using this phone for roughly 7 months
- Condition: Excellent, not one scratch on it
Based on the trends of past sales, I could sell my phone on eBay for approximately $356.00.
So, if you've got a spare phone or two lying around, try and sell it on ebay. According to eBay, their top five bestselling mobile handsets are:
- Apple iPhone 5 and 5S
- Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus
- Samsung Galaxy S6
- Apple iPhone 4S
- Samsung Galaxy S5
