3 hidden Facebook features you’ll want to know about
The world’s most popular social network site has lots of hidden and unknown features. Here are three features you may have been missing out on.
The “other” inbox
Did you know there are two inboxes in your message bank? To review your messages, click on “messages” in the left column of your main page or the message icon at the top right of the page. The default is your main inbox where you’ll find personal messages from your Facebook friends. However, if you look to the top where it says “Inbox”, next to it you’ll find the “Other” message folder.
The “Other” inbox is where messages from people who you aren’t friends with on Facebook are filtered to. It’s usually filled with spam and scammers but sometimes it’s from long-lost friends or new friends trying to connect with you. Go find out!
Save posts and articles to read for later
Do you ever see an article, video or post on Facebook you want to read but don’t quite have the time at that particular moment? Then, when you do have the time, you’ve forgotten where it was or how to find it. We’ve all been there, but luckily Facebook has a great “Save for later” feature.
If you see an article – like one of our recipes posts on Facebook – and want to save it for later, click on the little arrow on the top-right of the post. A drop down menu will pop up with a few options. Click the fourth option down: “Save [name of story]”. The story will now be saved on the left-hand favourites bar on your main page under “saved” (which will only appear when you save something for the first time).
Prune your news feed
The great thing about your news feed is that it’s an amalgamation of your personal interests: your friends and pages that you’ve liked (that’s us, hopefully!) However, sometimes you don’t want to be inundated with posts from just the one friend or page.
When you “like” a page, you automatically follow it (which means all their posts will appear on your news feed). To “unfollow” the posts, go to the page, hover over the “Liked” button (in the page’s cover photo) and click “Following”. The tick beside it will disappear meaning you are no longer following the page. You are still part of the page (which means it’s still listed under your “Likes” and you’re still connected to it), but won’t see their posts anymore. If you don’t want to be part of the page at all, hover over the “liked” button and click “Unlike” at the bottom of the drop down menu.
