Turia Pitt opens up about struggle of being a first-time mum
Turia Pitt has shared an adorable snap of her newborn son Hakavai.
At just eight days old, Hakavai was not quite ready to embrace the camera and cutely blocked his mother’s attempt of photographing him by putting his hand in the air.
The inspirational burns survivor lay next to her newborn as she smiled directly into the camera.
“Enough with the photos Mum!” she wrote as the caption that accompanied the sweet photo.
On Wednesday, Turia and her fiancé Michael Hoskin brought Hakavai home from the hospital.
On their first night together at home as a family, Turia took to Instagram to give her fans an update.
“Santa came early to the Hoskin residence this year. Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Mum and baby are happy and healthy (and Michael looks like the genie from Aladdin). We are slightly sleep deprived but stoked!”
On Friday, Turia revealed that she had been struggling with breastfeeding her newborn but reminded herself that it was still early days.
“I realised it was the first time I’d ever breastfed and it was Hakavai’s first time too and the first time you try anything new you’re not going to be an expert at it!” She wrote on Instagram.
“We’re not experts (yet) but we’re definitely getting the hang of it.”
Many of her followers reassured the 30-year-old mum that breastfeeding isn’t always easy.
"It’s so hard!!! And painful! We struggled for 3 or so weeks then slowly got the hang of it," one wrote.
"Breastfeeding is HARD. I found the biggest help to be talking with friends about their struggles with nursing," another added.
In October, Turia opened up to Daily Mail about the kind of parent she planned to be.
“[I] can't wait to do all the stuff I enjoy with him – going for a surf or a run – it's going to be so cool," she said.
In July 2005, Turia and Michael announced their engagement.
