If you love Friends: How I Met Your Mother

This modern-day comedy is centred on a group of friends who live in Manhattan, New York. The storyline is a romance in reverse: lead character Ted Mosby has found the love of his life, and is telling the story of how they met to his two children. They flashback to his mid-20’s, when he’s dating and searching for The One. The catch: Mosby doesn’t reveal who his kid’s mother is in the story until the very last episode. It’ll keep you guessing!

If you’re a sucker for period drama: Downtown Abbey

As Downtown Abbey nears its sixth and final season in 2016, now is the perfect time to start watching this period drama or catch up on missed episodes. Set in Yorkshire on the fictional country estate of Downtown Abbey, the series follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family. You might recognise a few references to the era such as the sinking of the Titanic and the outbreak of World War I, as history and personal drama are intertwined in this seriously addictive British series.

If you’re a political junkie: House of Cards
