Channel Ten in crisis as biggest TV shows pulled from air
If you’re a fan of popular programs like Modern Family, This Is Us, M*A*S*H, Malcolm in the Middle and The Simpsons, we’ve got some bad news. Channel Ten will be pulling all 21st Century Fox programs off the air after a deal with the US network fell through.
It will be the first time The Simpsons will not be airing on free-to-air TV in Australia in 25 years, and the fallout also means no Fox movies will be aired on the network.
A Fox spokesperson told the Daily Telegraph that negotiations had failed after Channel Ten administrators tried to cherry-pick content, cut costs and wanted to change the deal “at the eleventh hour”.
“We did go back and forth but we couldn’t come to an arrangement,” the spokesperson said. “The volume of content being proposed didn’t meet our expectations.”
Time will only tell if rival networks swoop in and take advantage of the new opportunity, but a Nine spokesperson told the Telegraph they may consider bidding for a couple of shows.
