Could Karl Stefanovic have two new co-hosts on Today?
With 10 years’ experience at the desk of Nine breakfast TV program Today, Lisa Wilkinson’s shoes were always going to be hard ones to fill. And if recent reports are to be believed, network execs think they’re far too big for just one person.
Rumours suggest Karl Stefanovic could soon have two new co-hosts joining him on Today, with television personalities Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight reportedly being lined up as potential replacements for Wilkinson.
46-year-old Gardner spent seven years as a newsreader on the Today show and is reportedly been cherry-picked to co-host the program four days a week, with 44-year-old Knight chipping in to cover the remaining day of the program.
Dailymail suggests the ‘icy’ relationship between Stefanovic and Gardner is complicating the negotiations, with an unnamed staff member suggesting they’d been invited to lunch last week for talks designed to clear the air.
“They were keen to make it work for Georgie because she really is the best person for that role,” the unnamed staff member said.
“She's f***ing tough, let me tell you, she doesn't take s**t from anyone. More importantly, she's been a journo for years.
“She has a strong news background and she's more than capable of doing political interviews as well as the banter.”
What are your thoughts? Think she could fit the role?
