Eurovision hosts announce sudden departure

In another shake up to Australian television this year, Joel Creasey and Myf Warhurst have quietly quit their role as hosts of the SBS Eurovision broadcast for next year.

The network posted the surprise announcement on their website on Wednesday afternoon.

“Statement regarding commentary team for the Eurovision Song Contest 2025," it read, before announcing the duo's departure.

The pair have hosted the Eurovision broadcast since 2017, after taking over from long-running hosts Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang.

Creasey and Warhurst faced a few challenges during their time as hosts, as Aussie Eurovision fans constantly compared them to the previous hosts.

However, despite the challenges they have expressed how honoured they were to host Eurovision for the last seven years.

“It’s been a huge honour to host the Eurovision Song Contest for SBS, but the time has come to hang up our glitter microphones,” the hosts said in the SBS statement.

“We have absolutely adored watching our Australian artists compete on the world stage and it’s been a privilege to bring that experience to our dedicated Australian Eurovision fans.”

The close friends hinted that they will “work together in some capacity again soon.”

The statement came after Eurovision fan sites noted Creasey’s stand-up tour dates in Australia next May clashed with the 2025 contest in Basel, Switzerland.

Australia’s Head of Delegation Emily Griggs said Creasey and Warhurst are “forever part of the Eurovision family.”

“We’ll cherish your sparkling years in the commentary booth and can’t wait for you to pass on your hot tips and expertise as we welcome our new hosts in 2025,” Griggs said.

It is understood SBS has been auditioning potential replacements but are unlikely to reveal the new hosts until February next year.
