House Rules horror accident: “I’m happy to be alive”

It was a case of wrong place, wrong time on House Rules this Monday, where Carolyn Burns-McGrave was rushed to hospital after being knocked over by a timber beam.

The interior design expert told the Daily Telegraph that the accident, which only ended up taking about five minutes of airtime, could have killed her.

“I feel very thankful to be able to tell the tale,” Burns-McGrave said.

“In the days and weeks that followed when I was asked over and over how I was feeling, I simply replied, ‘I’m just so happy to be alive!’ And that’s what it comes down to. Wrong place, wrong time, but it wasn’t MY time.”

Burns-McGrave ended up with a fractured sternum and two fractured ribs.

“I am so proud of this little body of mine,” she said. “I don’t look like a slim TV type but I am strong. My body withstood a huge blow.”

“I returned to the building site four days later. I went for a walk through, just with (the supervisor) in case I had a meltdown, but I was OK. I thought, yep, I can do this!”
