Johnny Ruffo shares emotional update on his battle with brain cancer

Former Home and Away star Johnny Ruffo has shared some positive news regarding his brain cancer fight on Instagram.

The post consists of side by side images of his brain scans, which were taken at the beginning and end of his journey with brain cancer.

“Exactly two years ago versus today,” the caption reads.

“So glad to have beaten this horrible disease. Thank you for all the support!”

The beloved Aussie opened up to WHO about his progress in January.

“I'm going really good. My next scan is in three weeks and provided that's all clear then I'm in the clear completely.”

Ruffo added, “That will be my last scan for now and then I've got to get another one every three months – you've got to keep checking up on it.”

He discovered the tumour in his brain after his girlfriend Tahnee Sims insisted on taking him to the hospital after he had a headache that just wouldn’t go away.

He told Who Are You podcast host Pete Timbs about how it happened.

"I was just at home and I had a headache, but everyone has headaches and you never think much of it," Ruffo recalled.

"It had been ongoing and it just got worse and worse. It got to about 4 or 5 in the afternoon and I couldn't speak, I couldn't communicate with [Tahnee] at all."

Two years after the devastating diagnosis, Ruffo is working on exciting new projects, including the recent release of his single Broken Glass.

He performed the song on The Morning Show.

"It's loosely about my experiences in the past two or three years – and about being down and out – not necessarily about cancer, but about anything like depression or losing a loved one,” he said.

"I really want people to connect with it and interpret it in their own way – because everyone goes through struggles."
