Nail in the coffin: Today show reaches a record low
Today continues its slump as the breakfast show’s ratings plunged to its lowest in more than a decade.
After hitting a 2019 low of 163,000 metro viewers on Wednesday, the program slipped further to 155,000 viewers on Friday while rival show Sunrise pulled in 298,000 viewers.
The Today show’s ratings have shown a downward trend since it dipped below the 200,000-viewer mark in mid-January. In February, Today recorded its lowest figures in a decade with just 168,000 people tuning in to the show across five capital cities on one day.
According to Channel 9, Today’s lowest results were in December 2005 when the program earned just 116,000 viewers.
Rumours have emerged that Nine will address the ailing ratings by creating a new line-up in 2020 to include names such as Andy Lee and Carrie Bickmore. Former host Karl Stefanovic has also been tipped to return to Today.
