"No, no, no": Karl Stefanovic weighs in on Golden Gaytime drama
Calls to re-brand the popular Aussie ice-cream Golden Gaytime is an example of cancel culture going too far, says Karl Stefanovic.
An Australian man recently launched a petition to rename the classic dessert after he deemed the name as outdated and offensive.
The host of the Today show disagreed.
"I say, no, no, no. It's time to stop this cancel culture," Karl said.
"For goodness' sake, I'm drawing the line at an ice-cream. Like millions of Australians, I love a Gaytime.
"How can a name born in the innocence of the 1950s be offensive? It's ridiculous."
Tasmanian Senator Jacqui Lambie then shared her own opinion on the matter, and couldn't resist taking a swipe at Karl.
"I think you probably do with a little bit less ice-cream for your waistline, Karl. That's the first thing," she said.
"My second thing is - what about all those women with the first name of Gaye?
"This is going way over the line."
