Your favourite Aussie shows not coming back to TV in 2018

Another Aussie-made drama is set to be scrapped, with The Daily Telegraph reporting Channel Nine has confirmed plans to axe House Husbands after five years.

The show, which starred Gary Sweet, Firass Dirani, Rhys Muldoon and Julia Morris, was reportedly unable to sustain itself financially, finding itself on the chopping block as a result.

It’s looking equally as grim over at Channel Seven, with Jessica Mauboy’s series The Secret Daughter set to be cut after two series, with drama 800 Words also unlikely to return.

TV commentator David Knox told The Daily Telegraph that while ABC and SBS still provided some gems, reality TV was set to be the dominant force in 2018.

“Australia is unique in the world for its zeal for reality TV,” he said.

“Yes, (scripted shows) are expensive, yes, it is culturally important to hear our voices on screen, but there is no let up in our appetite for storytelling — it’s just in the way we choose to consume it.”
