57 police officers forced into self-isolation
Police officers in a Melbourne suburb have been forced into isolation after two colleagues tested positive for COVID-19.
Frankston Police Station was temporarily closed on the weekend after a second police officer returned a positive coronavirus test on Sunday.
Contact tracing is now underway to establish how many Victoria Police officers had contact with the infected people in the past 14 days.
Police said 57 other officers had since been tested and placed into self-isolation after coming into contact with the pair.
“These members will remain stood down from duty to self-isolate for 14 days, however the community can be assured that service delivery will remain unaffected,” a spokesman said.
“Victoria Police will work closely with the Department of Health and Human Services in an effort to determine how the officer became infected.”
The station reopened on Monday following a deep clean.
The news came as an officer from Swan Hill in Victoria’s northwest is quarantining after his partner was diagnosed with coronavirus.
