Bus driver charged after killing 24-year-old
A bus driver has been charged over a crash in Sydney’s Bondi that killed a 24-year-old woman.
The 41-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, negligent driving occasioning death, and failing to stop at a red light.
The crash, which occurred in the morning, left the woman, a pedestrian who had been walking near the Bondi Junction bus and train station, fighting for her life.
Bystanders quickly rushed to her side and attempted to perform CPR as they waited for paramedics to arrive.
But sadly, the attempts to save her failed and she passed away at the scene.
“Our paramedics worked tirelessly to provide the best treatment for the patient, but despite all their efforts there was nothing they could do,” she said,” NSW Ambulance inspector Nadia Tomlinson said.
The driver was treated for shock at the scene after the 10:15 am crash on Grafton Street.
He was then taken to St Vincent’s Hospital for mandatory testing, according to police.
Afterward, he returned to Waverley Police Station where he was arrested and charged.
The man has been granted conditional bail to appear in court on January 19.
