The Aussie suburbs where welfare cheats are beings dobbed in

Australian Federal Police are targeting Mount Druitt and St Mary’s in Sydney’s west in a major crackdown on welfare cheats with at least $100,000 in Centrelink payments expected to be clawed back.

The area has been flagged as it has one of the highest rates of friends and family dobbing in people making false claims to get welfare.

The Taskforce Integrity operation, which is run with the Human Services Department, has found more than $10 million in fake or wrong claims made by 3000 people across the state since 2015.

Human Services Minister Michael Keenan told The Daily Telegraph that “Australia has a generous welfare safety net, but it is vital that we maintain its integrity to ensure it remains viable for those who rely on it for support”

“The compliance operation targets areas around Australia where rates of non-compliance are known to be high, and sees snap audits conducted on large numbers of benefit recipients to ensure they are not claiming more than they should be.”
