Men charged after remains found following teen's disappearance

Two men have been charged over the disappearance of 19-year-old Isla Bell, after human remains were discovered by police.

The teenager was last seen leaving her home in Brunswick, in Melbourne’s inner-north, on October 6th at about 6pm, prompting a widespread police investigation.

On Tuesday, authorities made the grim discovery of human remains in Dandenong, south-east Melbourne, after 46 days of searching for the 19-year-old.

Missing persons squad detectives arrested three men on Tuesday after executing search warrants at two properties in Bentleigh East and Mulgrave.

A 53-year-old St Kilda man has been since been charged with murder, while a 57-year-old Hampton man has been charged with assist offender (murder).

A 63-year-old Mulgrave man was released pending further inquiries.

After Isla went missing, her friends and family launched an online campaign to find her as they posted daily pleas for information.

“There has been no activity on her bank account. No activity on her social media. Her phone has not pinged to any towers,” they posted in an update to the Help Us Find Isla Bell Facebook page on Sunday.

“It’s hard not to think the worst given the situation and the concerning circumstances in which she disappeared.”
