Police officer suffers horrific injuries after being punched in the face
A NSW police officer suffered horrific injuries after she was kneed in the face and hit repeatedly by a 28-year-old man.
According to police, officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police District went to Walu Avenue in Halekulani at 5 am on Tuesday morning after it was reported a man was yelling loudly and allegedly threatening nearby residents and attempting to enter properties.
Police patrolled the area and watched the man return to his own home. They then left without any issues.
But only a few hours later, the officers returned to the same street after receiving more complaints about the man allegedly trespassing and threatening nearby residents.
Two officers attended the scene and spoke to the man.
However, the confrontation turned aggressive and resulted in the man punching a senior female constable in the head multiple times.
“He was restrained before he allegedly lunged at the senior constable again and OC spray was deployed unsuccessfully,” NSW Police said in a statement.
“The man allegedly continued to punch and knee the officer in the head before he was restrained and arrested.”
During the alleged assault, the 47-year-old constable sustained lacerations to her face and was treated both at the scene and then taken to Wyong Hospital for further treatment.
The 28-year-old man was taken to Wyong Police Station and was charged with multiple offences, including assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and trespassing.
He was refused bail and appeared in Wyong Local Court on Tuesday.
