URGENT RECALL: Car doors may unlatch and open while driving
A safety recall for a popular household car has been issued after the risk of a car door swinging open due to a faulty latch.
The recall was issued yesterday by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) advising owners to contact their nearest Ford dealer to find out if they are at risk.
Over 42,000 Ford Fiestas made from May 27, 2010 to September 1, 2016 and over 85,000 Ford Rangers built from May 23, 2011 to May 20, 2015 have been affected and fall under the recall notice.
The fault lies in the side-door latch with the pawl spring tab at risk of breaking which would stop the door from latching.
While many drivers of the vehicle are able to close their doors, the door may open suddenly while the car is in motion causing the driver to fall out.
Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by Ford, and the ACCC have asked consumers to mention Safety Recall 18S06 when booking in an appointment for a diagnosis and repair.
Visit the ACCC’s product safety recall website to see a full list of the Vehicle Identification Numbers to find out if your car has been affected.
