5 million Aussies set to receive biggest cash boost in 30 years

Millions of struggling Australians will cop a much-needed cash boost this week, as Centrelink payments are set to increase to match the rising cost of living.

The increased amount is set to be the biggest in 30 years and will benefit pensioners, disability support pensioners, carers' payments and those on Jobseeker and Rent Assist.

Having been announced earlier in September, the increase will see the Aged Pension rise to $1025.50 for singles and $1547.60 for couples, while Job Seeker will rise to $677.20.

Single parents are set to receive an extra $35.20, bringing their total up to $927.40, while Jobseeker recipients aged over 22 and without children will get an extra $25.70 per fortnight, bringing their total to $677.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers said: “This indexation will be particularly big this month, because inflation is particularly challenging.”
