Company offers “free power” to Aussie households
As crippling energy prices sweep the nation, leading Europe battery provider Sonnen is offering “free power” to homes using its solar storage system.
With 60,000 customers already onboard in Germany, Sonnen hopes to lure Australian consumers in with the offer of free power to a certain amount. But how does it work?
Well, Sonnen’s business model is all about removing merchants like Energy Australia and Origin Energy from the equation, become the manufacturer of solar power storage batters, while at the same time selling a portion of your power.
Customers allow Sonnen to access a small amount of stored power from its batteries, generally during periods of high demand. The amount of free power depends on customer’s choice of Sonnen’s 8, 10 or 12 kWh battery systems.
“In the past six months there have been five times more installations than the company saw for the entire year of 2016,” Natural Solar chief executive Chris Williams told News.com.au.
“There has been a transition from early adaptors to a large number of mum and dad households looking for home energy storage solutions to help remove expensive electricity bills.”
“This is an absolute game charger and a highly disruptive technology that puts power back into the hands of the consumer.”
