More bang for your buck! Man reveals secret way to skyrocket value of $50 note

A TikTok user has revealed the unbelievable way Aussies can get more bang for the buck from their $50 notes.

The user, who goes by the handle The History of Money, often shares tips, tricks and facts about Australian money.

Now he has shown the subtle differences on Australian notes and coins that could increase their worth.

In one clip that has gone viral, he showed users how to spot “rare $50”.

He says that if a person finds the right note and the right collector, a $50 note could sell for between $70 and $1500.

He says a specific combination of signatures and letters at the start of the note’s serial number can determine its worth.

On the left of the smiling David Unaipon, a signature combination of Stevens and Parkinson’s signature boosts its value.

He also said that if the start of the serial number’s note begins with AA 14 or JC 14, it can also increase its worth.

The rules apply to old $50 notes, the social media poster said and does not apply to the new ones with the clear band down the middle.

The user said that if someone stumbles upon one of the rare notes that the “market for coin and banknote collectors is massive.”

“The legal tender value and its intrinsic value are two different things.”

He also shared a similar video related to rare details on $5 notes, telling his 47,000 followers that a note needed to have the Stevens/Fraser signature combination, as well as a serial number that starts with ‘BA 15’.

“Depending on the condition, it is worth between $100 and $1750,” he said.
