Coles unveils new food range based on popular eating trend

Coles has jumped onto the booming health food trend with a new range of 28 products targeted at clean-eating customers.

The supermarket giant claims its new “Wellness Road” range will help make nutritious food more affordable and accessible for customers who are looking to make healthier choices for their diet.

“From teenagers, through to those in their 60s and 70s, our customers are telling us that they want to eat less processed foods and cut back on sugar and salt,” said Greg Davis, the retail chain’s Chief Operating Officer.

“But customers also don’t want to change their entire diet or pay a huge premium for healthier foods, and they don’t have time to make a special shopping trip for a couple of ingredients.”

The line – which includes organic black rice noodles, flaxseed meal, buckwheat kernels and quinoa – is said to be free from trans fats, artificial flavours and sweeteners. Many of the products are also made with reduced levels of salt, sugar and saturated fats.

“What we’ve looked to do with Wellness Road is simply provide our customers with uncomplicated goodness – delicious tasting and nutritionally balanced products – and importantly, at great value,” said Davis.

The news came after Coles announced that it will offer popular pantry staples in bulk sizes to compete with Costco. The availability of the larger products – including pasta, cereals and breadcrumbs – will vary from store to store, Davis said.

The Wellness Road range is available at select Coles stores across Australia and online.
