Barry Du Bois returns to work on The Living Room after chemo treatment
Barry Du Bois has returned to work on The Living Room after several gruelling months of chemotherapy as he battles cancer for the second time.
The Channel 10 presenter is happy to report that his prognosis looks positive.
“I am banking on being the fittest 58-year-old I can be,” Du Bois told The Daily Telegraph. “My prognosis out of this could be between five and 10 years. I am going to double that.”
Du Bois announced on The Living Room in October last year that six years after he had beat cancer, it had unfortunately returned.
Since then, the father-of-two has undergone a bone marrow retrieval, stem cell transplant and chemo that saw him in isolation for 21 days at St Vincent’s Hospital. He lost 15kg in total.
“The chemo I had was horrific,” he said. “It was successful for me, I am on the scenic route now... I am ready for any fight.”
Documenting his journey on his Facebook page, Du Bois says the love and support from his fans online has meant the world to him.
His Living Room co-hosts Amanda Keller, Miguel Maestre and Chris Brown were also regular visitors.
“To know that you are that cared for and that loved is a real uplifting psychologically positive thing to have,” Du Bois said.
And even losing his hair hasn’t affected Du Bois’ positive attitude and fighting sprit.
“People who go through this chemo treatment, their hair comes back differently. I am hoping mine forgets it was grey and comes back dark again,” he said.
Du Bois will be back on The Living Room from Friday March 30.
