Doing the dishes a proven way to de-stress

No one likes washing the dishes, but according to a study published in Mindfulness, it might be one of the most effective ways to unwind after a long day.

The study was performed by Florida State University, and examined 51 students. Half the students were encouraged to focus on the sensory aspects of the chore, (scent, sound, touch) while the others read a passage on the importance of getting it done.

Of the students, those who washed dishes “mindfully” reported increased mental inspiration by 25 per cent and a decrease in nervousness by 27 per cent, while the control group found no benefits.

Looks like the benefits of doing the dishes include more than just a clean kitchen.
