It's twin girls! Former Home and Away star shares first photo of new daughters
Motherhood isn’t easy. You constantly find yourself awake in the middle of the night due to crying, they never seem to sleep when you want them to and not to mention the child that picks and chooses what they want to eat.
So, imagine all of that and times it by two, because first-time-mother Bonnie Sveen gave birth to identical twin daughters on September 29, and this is currently what her life looks like.
Known for her much loved role of Ricky Sharpe on popular sitcom Home and Away, the actress spoke to New Idea on how she’s dealing with motherhood and shared an exclusive look at her daughters, Myrtle May and Emerald Lois Sveen-Gooley.
“How could I have possibly earned this double miracle in my life?” asked the 29-year-old proudly.
Sveen, who currently resides in Tasmania with her partner, Nathan Gooley, had a complicated pregnancy as her daughters were born almost a month premature.
Sveen was forced to remain in the neonatal intensive unit (NICU) at Royal Hobart Hospital for two weeks before doctors gave the green light to go home.
But sticking to a positive attitude, the couple could not be more thrilled to be new parents to twin daughters.
“It was amazing hearing both of their cries when each of them was born,” said Sveen. “They were just big forces of nature – big personalities.”
The actress also recounted the story behind her daughters’ unique names and explained why it meant so much to the both of them.
“We wanted to meet both the girls before we settled on the names,” she said.
“Both of our girls, at very early stages, seemed to be very aware of their surroundings and Emerald to me, invokes the Emerald City from The Wizard of Oz and that sparkle, and she carries that in her personality.
“Nath being a Coffs [Harbour] boy, he spent a lot of his childhood at Emerald Beach and I think that’s one of the best beaches in the world. Myrtle is a bit of a family name. My Auntie Maree – it was her nickname growing up. It’s also my favourite Tasmanian tree species.”
Before she was blessed with children of her own, Sveen underwent a dramatic pregnancy on TV when her character on Home and Away was pregnant with Darryl “Brax” Braxton’s (Steve Peacocke) baby.
The sitcom showed her having to go through her pregnancy alone, as her partner was in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
