John Howard breaks silence after health scare

Former prime minister John Howard has broken his silence after he was rushed to hospital last month with a “sudden attack” of appendicitis.

He had emergency surgery before spending several days at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital after a “timely” visit to his GP.

Now, he’s doing the one thing he loves the most.

“I have already resumed my daily walks,” he told NCA NewsWire.

After feeling ill, the 81-year-old went through an operation with a spokesperson revealing that he was “recovering” well with his wife Janette by his side.

After being discharged, Howard spent time at home before returning to the office.

He told NCA NewsWire he was “the beneficiary of timely advice from my GP”.

“I was very well cared for at the Royal North Shore Hospital,” he said.

A spokesman previously said Mr Howard was “most grateful for the wonderful attention he received from the surgeons, other medical and nursing staff at the Royal North Shore Hospital”.

Appendicitis is an inflammation of the appendix and usually causes pain in the abdomen.

Surgery is generally required to remove the organ and the condition is more common in people under 30.
