Turia Pitt reveals the meaning of her baby’s name

In December, we were thrilled to learn that Turia Pitt and her fiancé Michael Hoskin had welcomed a beautiful, healthy baby boy, whom they named Hakavai.

For the last few months, Turia has remained mum (pun intended) on the meaning of the unique moniker, but now, she’s finally revealed the significance behind the Tahitian name.

Sharing a gorgeous photo of her almost-three-month-old with his grandma for International Mother Language Day, Turia revealed Hakavai means “Dance of the water” in Tahitian, the language she grew up speaking in French Polynesia.

“You can always tell when mum’s been around,” Turia captioned the sweet snap. “So nice to hear her speak in Tahitian to Hakavai (although he really needs to work on his linguistic skills)," she added with her trademark humour.

While things appear to be going well for the adorable family of three, Turia admitted it isn’t always easy.

Earlier this month, the burns survivor took to Instagram to open up about the struggles she’s faced in the first few months of Hakavai’s life.

“Parenting is hard,” the burns survivor wrote. “I’ve got a baby that sleeps, a supportive partner, parents and in-laws on speed dial, heaps of mates who’ve had babies and I’m still finding it really challenging and exhausting. To all the parents out there, you’re all legends, and you’re all doing a good job!”
